    Dumont Campground

    Great StopOver, Close to Steamboat

    This is my second time here. The sites are spread far apart, and offer a mix of sunny or shady, if you're keen on the sun's swing you can find a balance of both. There are several trailheads in the area, and one trail exits the campground at the upper loop. Its a lovely trail, mostly flat, that passes by Dumont lake. The views in the campground are most open and expansive, with a moose cruising by on occasion. Steamboat is 22 miles away. Kremmling is 33. Verizon is strong on 4G.

    Meeker Town Park

    Hidden Gem on a Budget

    Meeker Town Park is a dream come true for RVers and campers looking for a beautiful, affordable, and well-equipped spot.

    Don't stay at one of the Meeker overpriced boondocking sites ($48-$58 per night ). For only twenty dollars a night, you get access to spacious, back-in sites with twenty, thirty, and fifty amp hookups, plus the convenience of an on-site dump station and available water.

    As an added bonus, it's the gateway to the spectacular Flat Tops Wilderness, making it the perfect basecamp for exploring incredible hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing.

    The park is also wonderfully maintained, featuring lush green grass, picnic tables, and barbecue stations. Pets will love the provided trash bags, and everyone will appreciate being right off the river for fishing and swimming. Do 't miss this gem!

    During our trip, it’s been very empty many spots available

    Unfortunate it seems like other campers in the past have left their garbage so be wary of where you’re camping. You might have to clean.

    Cimarron Campground (CO) — Curecanti National Recreation Area

    Clean with level spots just off Highway 50

    20 minutes from Montrose and a little road noise during the day but right on a beautiful Creek and affordable with garbage and water service and a store a few miles away that sells basics. Overall a very nice Campground for the price and in a great location near Black Canyon National Park

    We just kept driving passed the more condensed dispersed sites and eventually reached and open area right along the river. There are 3 spots here. Another app is calling this area Barlow Creek Dispersed.

    Ute Pass Dispersed Camping

    Secluded but croded

    The camping spot was amazing. I had to drive over 30 minutes on rocky terrain to find an open campground. That being said, it was a nice spot that was far from others. Would recommend going and setting up on Thursday or Friday to lock in a spot.

    Estes Park KOA

    Nice for new campers

    Took some friends here on their first ever camping trip the first weekend of Sept ‘25 and we had a great time. Convenient access to the park, quiet hours were well respected, and the tent site we stayed at (listed on the website as “best view in the campground”) did have an incredible view. We were also a bit above the rest of the sites nearby and had only a neighbor below us so it felt decently private for such a busy campground. The running water was nice to have for easing my friends into the world of camping! Camp store came in handy as well.

    Specific site came with picnic table under cover as well as 4 Adirondack chairs and a fire pit. Site was a couple steps up from the parking spot.

    Dune Camp Hosted by Dune Glamping at the Great Sand Dunes National Park

    Had the place to ourselves

    Stayed in early Sept ‘23 and had the entire place to ourselves. I booked the wrong dates for Pinyon in the park and we had to pivot last minute and this campground was wonderful. Not much shade given the landscape, and there were sooo many ants around the tent pad that we ended up moving the tent to as far back from the epicenter of them as we could and didn’t have any issues. Incredible night sky, beautiful sunset and sunrise. Convenient access to the park as well! Could hear some of the BLM folks in the evening with how well sound carries out here, and heard some coyotes howling around dusk. Felt totally alone out there which was pretty awesome.

    No check in and the signage was super minimal so for a while we definitely wondered if we were in the right spot / if we were gonna get kicked out by someone but it was all good

    Morefield Campground — Mesa Verde National Park

    Convenient location

    Stayed in early Sept ‘23. Convenient to be inside the park for getting up to the top for our tours. Not a lot of vegetation shade but privacy was decent and our site backed up into a bit of some woods. I don’t have the site number anymore (assigned at check in) but we were in the Zuni loop near the bathrooms. To this day I think about the Jerusalem beetle we saw here because it freaked me out but also remains the most interest bug I’ve ever seen. WiFi available, breakfast for purchase by check-in as well as a camp store and laundry.
