Best RV Parks & Resorts near Barneveld, WI

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks operate in the Barneveld region of Wisconsin with varying amenities and accessibility. Blackhawk Camping Resort in Milton provides water, electric, and sewer hookups on sites accommodating travel trailers and motorhomes from April through mid-October. Nearby, Fox Hill RV Park in Baraboo features full hookup sites with 50-amp electrical service, operating seasonally from late April to mid-October. Wisconsin Riverside Resort offers riverfront RV camping with security gates and multiple hookup options. Country Roads Motorhome & RV Park in Wisconsin Dells caters specifically to big rigs with full hookups and spacious sites. "The sites are very well isolated and shaded, and have a well maintained gravel and packed earth surface. Not great for staking a tent, but doable. Excellent for RVs but some sites are non-electric."

Across the region, RV campgrounds vary considerably in terrain and layout. Many parks require advance reservations during peak summer months and fall foliage season, particularly those near Wisconsin Dells attractions. A visitor commented that "if camping with a trailer or RV check to make sure you will get a campsite that is level enough for your vehicle. Lots of the campsites are uneven and larger vehicles may have issues getting level." Most facilities provide sanitary dump stations, though availability of on-site propane and laundry facilities is limited. Pet policies differ between parks, with most allowing pets but enforcing leash requirements. Cell service quality varies throughout the region, particularly in more rural locations near Blue Mound State Park and Governor Dodge State Park where terrain can affect coverage.

    Rustic Barn Campground RV Park

    Very clean and well-maintained

General: 58 sites with various amenities. Some are long pull-throughs, some are back-in, some have 30 amp with or without a patio, and some have 50-amp electric with or without a patio. Tents are NOT allowed. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and asked to sign a waiver and given a welcome packet. The rules are extensive, but most are common sense/courtesy and not at all unreasonable.

Site Quality: All had gravel driveways and looked level. Decent separation between sites although they are close together, as would be expected in an RV park. Our site had a patio and decent-sized picnic table but it was chilly when we were there so we ate inside.

Bathhouse: Very clean as were the showers.

Activities/Amenities: There are many activities offered, including a dog park, basketball, horseshoes, games (cornhole, large checkerboard, and others), a barn with a television, a book library, puzzles, and a pool table. Coffee is available after 9 am. There is also a small chapel available 24/7 and a laundry room. WiFi is also available. There is a camp store with ice, ice cream, some camping supplies, clothing, crafts, and more. We were told several restaurants will deliver to the campground.

We don’t typically prefer to stay in RV-style campgrounds, but it was conveniently located with easy access off Route 151 just over the Wisconsin border from Iowa, we were warmly welcomed, and enjoyed our short stay passing through. Pride of ownership was evident throughout.

    Lantern DeForest

    Cute campground - near Madison

We were in Site# B1. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-thru. We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site. My jeep though did not fit. The site was easy to level.

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a larger sized lot with our neighbors not too close (but we did choose a premium site with a patio and paid extra to be on the end).

This specific lot comes with a concrete patio The lot comes with a picnic table and fire hole in the ground.

They have a community Outdoor kitchen-y area with picnic tables.
They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool.
There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes and a volleyball court.

They have a great general store.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes but there are great places to ride bikes outside of campground, especially around Middleton and Madison.

They have cabins for rent and tent areas.

They have one shower house. The shower house has the typical stalls. These are kept mostly clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine.

They have a fenced in dog park and many grassy areas to walk dogs.

There were no trails to hike in the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are the Saturday Farmer’s Market in Madison and multitude of bike trails.

    Mud Lake County Park

Beautiful park on Miss River. Great value

Mud Lake is a wonderful county park near Dubuque. Beautiful views of the Mississippi River. We stayed one night on our way to Minnesota. The sites are mostly sunny. The park streets are gravel with gravel sites. The park is quiet except for the occasional train from the nearby tracks. Great value for $21. Electric and water hookups. Marina and boathouse next door.

Stayed in campsite #35 which has no shade. It was a gravel site which shares a pull-through with site 36. There was more than enough parking for my TT and truck and grass on either side. The site included: picnic table and fire ring. Utilities were located in the rear. 20A/50A electric and water. Site was level. Neighbors were nearby.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon 2 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 47 Mbps down, 1.3 Mbps up. Verizon data VERY SLOW. No WiFi.

Would stay here again. We camped at Mud Lake Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Christmas Mountain Village Campground

Christmas in Summer but I think I will skip the WInter.

This is a member resort but they do allow the public in.  We went in as Coast to Coast members.  This is an all season resort it does have a ski hill and accommodations for winter.  You can buy a condo resort, Lease a Time Share, buy a camping site ( with a Park Model on it,  Camp in a Motor Home, Trailer or Tent.  You can camp with full hook ups or as they call it the Wilderness Camping, they have some with 110 hook ups.

Facilities are very nice and clean, Swimming Pool, Club House with a lot of things to do. The sites are nice and big most are either pull through or large back in sites.  They also have an 18 holes golf course, since we don't golf really don't know how it is.

They have some WIFi but it is best at the club house the hotspots worked better.

If you would like to  visit Wisconsin Dells this is a great place as it is not very far from downtown and all the activities.  We spent 2 days exploring the Dells even in rain.  Had a great time.

If you are in the area I would check it out.

    Sugar River Forest Preserve

    Beautiful Place to Camp

We had a great time in this hidden gem.  It is run by the county and was much more than we expected from a county run facility.  We had a very nice cam site that allowed us to pull through with our pop up.  There are very tall trees around the entire campground giving you some respite from the sun and the heat.  The bath house is easily within walking distance from anywhere in the campground.  Many people that we met have been coming back for years (this was our first time there).  They have fire rings and picnic tables and firewood for sale at the entrance.  They allow dogs and the ranger is frequently visible throughout the day.  You are a short distance from the river and the surroundings are wonderful.  You are 20 minutes away from stores and restaurants if you happen to need them and also a short drive to Wisconsin.

    Fireside Campground

    Quiet and friendly RV camping

This is a RV campground, with both seasonal and weekend sites. Coin laundry and shower room with 4 showers. They have nice level site in a grassy and sandy area, with enough tree coverage for shade but not so much you’re freaking out parking your camper. Big rig friendly. Decent wi-fi and plenty of space on your site. Dog friendly. They have a big playground for kids, and activities. For us, this was a great place for us to easily set up our camper and use it as a base camp for hiking at Governor Dodge, visiting House in the Rock, and tubing on the Pine River. The staff here was super helpful and friendly, and the seasonal campers were all nice and chatty. We have camped at another RV campground in Spring Green that has a party vibe, and this was a more relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely come here again!!

Fox Hill RV Park & Campground

Good mix of rv and nature

We visited for opening weekend during COVID-19, so the park was quiet but open. The staff and owners here were very friendly and extremely helpful when we ran into some snags with setting up camp. We were able to check in online and drive right to our campsite, to get our enjoyment started right away. Our spot, F-2, was right across from the playground and great for my kiddo. Only neighbors to the sides and woods behind. This park has some nature trails, disc golf, and a good size dog run. It’s well kept and maintained. All site are pretty level with gravel pad and logically positioned utilities. The tent loop is more remote, but not a far walk from the park and pool. Pool wasn’t open yet this early in season. We enjoyed our peaceful stay and even booked for Memorial Day weekend as other campgrounds are closed and cancelling reservations. We are happy to have our social distanced camping experience and we’re very happy with Fox Hill. Can’t wait to come back when summer is in full swing! Compared to other campgrounds in the Dells, the price is reasonable for full hookups. It’s also really close to Devils Lake and Mirror State Park, so a perfect spot to have excellent hiking opportunities nearby and be able to quickly access all the yahoo craziness of the Dells area if you need an Olde Time Photo or a water skiing show. If you golf, there’s a 9 hole course next door that is easy to walk to.

    Blue Mound State Park Campground

Great state park with a pool!

We love this state park for family camping. The sites for RVs have electrical, but no water. The bathrooms are OK, its what you expect from a state park. But the hiking around the park is amazing. There are tons of trails, and 2 wooden observation towers to climb so you can see all the way to Madison on a clear day! If it's a hot summer day, enjoy the swimming pool or head over to Cave of the Mounds where it's always cool. There's also a biking camp ground right off the Ice Age Trail, which makes it a great stop for an overnight or just a break. You're also close enough to drive to Mt. Horeb if you need more action or beer.

We've always enjoyed this campground because the overnight camping are has fewer sites, and therefore less crowded. It's a nice shaded area with some tight spots. If you are in a tent, some even have gravel pads for a level area that drains well. For RVs, be sure to select a bigger site than you think you need. Sometime's it's tricky to maneuver your camper so big rigs may want to stay elsewhere. Our 30 ft. travel trailer fit fine, with some skilled driving. Lots of trees for shade or hammocks, and bigger fields and picnic areas if you need some space to play frisbee.

Guide to Barneveld

The Barneveld area in Wisconsin sits at approximately 1,200 feet above sea level in the Driftless Area, characterized by rolling hills and valleys untouched by glaciation. This unique topography creates natural drainage systems affecting campground conditions, with some RV parks requiring extra leveling blocks due to the hilly terrain. Seasonal changes impact campsite availability, with higher elevation locations typically drier in spring.

What to do

Disc golf course access: Arrowhead RV Campground offers an on-site disc golf course plus a range of family activities. "Great campground for families with kids and teens. Tons of activities all around the campground... put-put, corn hole, two pools, huge trampoline, volleyball nets, disc golf, and a Christmas in July festival all happening when we were there."

Swimming options year-round: Most campgrounds near Barneveld maintain swimming facilities with varying seasonal availability. At Lakeland Camping Resort, visitors have multiple water recreation options. "The kids had endless options to keep them busy from 2 swimming pools, a sandy beach, playgrounds, mini golf, sports courts, and even planned activities and themed weekends."

Racetrack entertainment nearby: Several RV parks in the Barneveld region sit close to local racetracks, providing evening entertainment during summer months. "Great main Lodge, good size sites but bring extension cords for electrical hook ups.... Odd outlet placement, very clean and friendly office personal, usual price to stay and don't forget the racetrack across the way has races Saturday night."

What campers like

Clean, accessible bathrooms: Many Barneveld area campgrounds maintain modern bathroom facilities. At Fox Hill RV Park, campers appreciate the well-maintained facilities. "Overall the facilities were clean and in good shape. They will deliver wood to your campsite when needed. Some of the campsites are lacking some grass which is the reason I took off 1 star but otherwise a very nice place to camp!"

Delivery services on-site: Several RV parks near Barneveld provide convenience services like firewood and ice delivery directly to campsites. "Friendly and helpful front desk. Pool is very nice. Perfect water temperature in June. Clean facilities. Camping spots are a little rough terrain, but TT is level without levelers, but bring them just in case. Make sure you bring 50 ft of electrical cord and water hose. They do offer to barrow their extension cords."

Varied terrain options: The Barneveld region offers camping experiences from wooded sites to open field locations. "We chose to get a smaller campsite with just W/E because there are trees and shade, and it just feels a little more like camping. Also have spots for hanging hammocks, and some sites are positioned well for groups."

What you should know

Flooding impacts some parks: Several campgrounds in low-lying areas experience seasonal flooding issues. "It has been quite some time since the last time we visited Blackhawk. They appear to have entered the thousand trail system of membership since our last visit. The campground has plenty of amenities to keep you busy with a beautiful lake you can walk to."

Variable cell service: Coverage can be spotty throughout the region based on topography and provider. Campers may need to rely on campground WiFi. "We streamed a little tv last night" at Nature's Touch Campground where "someone's RV was giving off an awful stench. LOTS of puddles when it rained so maybe better drainage?"

Off-season limitations: Many RV parks Barneveld, Wisconsin operate seasonally, typically April through October, with reduced amenities in shoulder seasons. "The pool was also open, and warm enough to swim in. They also had some fun activities for the kids, but it was a challenge to maintain safe distancing with all of the interested people."

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning for kids: The best family-friendly campgrounds near Barneveld offer scheduled programming. "This is a great family campground. We just returned from a family reunion of 20 people camping together and they were great to work with. We were able to have 3 pop ups and 2 tents on 3 sites. We also rented a cabin for the great grandparents."

Swimming facility selection: Families should check swimming options before booking. Some campgrounds offer multiple water facilities with different features. "This campground is only 10 to 15 minutes from everything that you would want to do in the WI Dells. We did do some traditional Wisconsin Dells things while camping. One of which was riding the Original Wisconsin Dells Duck Boat Tour."

Noise considerations: Family campers should select sites away from main activity centers for quieter evenings. At Yukon Trails Camping Resort, campers appreciate the family-friendly atmosphere. "We were impressed by this little gem not too far from the Wisconsin Dells. At has amenities similar to the larger resort campgrounds but keeps a charming in the woods campground feel."

Tips from RVers

Outlet accessibility: Many RV parks near Barneveld have unusual electrical hookup placements requiring extension cords. "Beautiful setting nice wide pull throughs. Very friendly and helpful. Good place for overnight or extended stay."

Campground location strategy: When visiting Wisconsin Dells attractions from Barneveld area RV parks, select locations balancing travel distance and campground amenities. At Rustic Barn Campground RV Park, "quiet, clean & friendly. FHUs and city water/sewer! The gorgeous sunsets were an added bonus. I wish we would have booked a back in site, because they were wonderfully shaded and appeared easy to back into."

Site selection for levelness: Many campgrounds require additional leveling due to the hilly terrain around Barneveld. "Beautiful area, sites are situated with the terrain which can make them interesting to get into. They're gravel and mostly level. Good wifi which is purchased separately. Full hook ups and friendly staff."
