    Rustic Barn Campground RV Park

    Very clean and well-maintained

General: 58 sites with various amenities. Some are long pull-throughs, some are back-in, some have 30 amp with or without a patio, and some have 50-amp electric with or without a patio. Tents are NOT allowed. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and asked to sign a waiver and given a welcome packet. The rules are extensive, but most are common sense/courtesy and not at all unreasonable.

Site Quality: All had gravel driveways and looked level. Decent separation between sites although they are close together, as would be expected in an RV park. Our site had a patio and decent-sized picnic table but it was chilly when we were there so we ate inside.

Bathhouse: Very clean as were the showers.

Activities/Amenities: There are many activities offered, including a dog park, basketball, horseshoes, games (cornhole, large checkerboard, and others), a barn with a television, a book library, puzzles, and a pool table. Coffee is available after 9 am. There is also a small chapel available 24/7 and a laundry room. WiFi is also available. There is a camp store with ice, ice cream, some camping supplies, clothing, crafts, and more. We were told several restaurants will deliver to the campground.

We don’t typically prefer to stay in RV-style campgrounds, but it was conveniently located with easy access off Route 151 just over the Wisconsin border from Iowa, we were warmly welcomed, and enjoyed our short stay passing through. Pride of ownership was evident throughout.

    Lantern DeForest

    Cute campground - near Madison

We were in Site# B1. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-thru. We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site. My jeep though did not fit. The site was easy to level.

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a larger sized lot with our neighbors not too close (but we did choose a premium site with a patio and paid extra to be on the end).

This specific lot comes with a concrete patio The lot comes with a picnic table and fire hole in the ground.

They have a community Outdoor kitchen-y area with picnic tables.
They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool.
There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes and a volleyball court.

They have a great general store.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes but there are great places to ride bikes outside of campground, especially around Middleton and Madison.

They have cabins for rent and tent areas.

They have one shower house. The shower house has the typical stalls. These are kept mostly clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine.

They have a fenced in dog park and many grassy areas to walk dogs.

There were no trails to hike in the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are the Saturday Farmer’s Market in Madison and multitude of bike trails.

    Fireside Campground

    Quiet and friendly RV camping

This is a RV campground, with both seasonal and weekend sites. Coin laundry and shower room with 4 showers. They have nice level site in a grassy and sandy area, with enough tree coverage for shade but not so much you’re freaking out parking your camper. Big rig friendly. Decent wi-fi and plenty of space on your site. Dog friendly. They have a big playground for kids, and activities. For us, this was a great place for us to easily set up our camper and use it as a base camp for hiking at Governor Dodge, visiting House in the Rock, and tubing on the Pine River. The staff here was super helpful and friendly, and the seasonal campers were all nice and chatty. We have camped at another RV campground in Spring Green that has a party vibe, and this was a more relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely come here again!!

    Christmas Mountain Village Campground

Christmas in Summer but I think I will skip the WInter.

This is a member resort but they do allow the public in.  We went in as Coast to Coast members.  This is an all season resort it does have a ski hill and accommodations for winter.  You can buy a condo resort, Lease a Time Share, buy a camping site ( with a Park Model on it,  Camp in a Motor Home, Trailer or Tent.  You can camp with full hook ups or as they call it the Wilderness Camping, they have some with 110 hook ups.

Facilities are very nice and clean, Swimming Pool, Club House with a lot of things to do. The sites are nice and big most are either pull through or large back in sites.  They also have an 18 holes golf course, since we don't golf really don't know how it is.

They have some WIFi but it is best at the club house the hotspots worked better.

If you would like to  visit Wisconsin Dells this is a great place as it is not very far from downtown and all the activities.  We spent 2 days exploring the Dells even in rain.  Had a great time.

If you are in the area I would check it out.

Fox Hill RV Park & Campground

Good mix of rv and nature

We visited for opening weekend during COVID-19, so the park was quiet but open. The staff and owners here were very friendly and extremely helpful when we ran into some snags with setting up camp. We were able to check in online and drive right to our campsite, to get our enjoyment started right away. Our spot, F-2, was right across from the playground and great for my kiddo. Only neighbors to the sides and woods behind. This park has some nature trails, disc golf, and a good size dog run. It’s well kept and maintained. All site are pretty level with gravel pad and logically positioned utilities. The tent loop is more remote, but not a far walk from the park and pool. Pool wasn’t open yet this early in season. We enjoyed our peaceful stay and even booked for Memorial Day weekend as other campgrounds are closed and cancelling reservations. We are happy to have our social distanced camping experience and we’re very happy with Fox Hill. Can’t wait to come back when summer is in full swing! Compared to other campgrounds in the Dells, the price is reasonable for full hookups. It’s also really close to Devils Lake and Mirror State Park, so a perfect spot to have excellent hiking opportunities nearby and be able to quickly access all the yahoo craziness of the Dells area if you need an Olde Time Photo or a water skiing show. If you golf, there’s a 9 hole course next door that is easy to walk to.

    Blue Mound State Park Campground

Great state park with a pool!

We love this state park for family camping. The sites for RVs have electrical, but no water. The bathrooms are OK, its what you expect from a state park. But the hiking around the park is amazing. There are tons of trails, and 2 wooden observation towers to climb so you can see all the way to Madison on a clear day! If it's a hot summer day, enjoy the swimming pool or head over to Cave of the Mounds where it's always cool. There's also a biking camp ground right off the Ice Age Trail, which makes it a great stop for an overnight or just a break. You're also close enough to drive to Mt. Horeb if you need more action or beer.

We've always enjoyed this campground because the overnight camping are has fewer sites, and therefore less crowded. It's a nice shaded area with some tight spots. If you are in a tent, some even have gravel pads for a level area that drains well. For RVs, be sure to select a bigger site than you think you need. Sometime's it's tricky to maneuver your camper so big rigs may want to stay elsewhere. Our 30 ft. travel trailer fit fine, with some skilled driving. Lots of trees for shade or hammocks, and bigger fields and picnic areas if you need some space to play frisbee.

    Wisconsin Riverside Resort

Great family campground right on the lower Wisconsin River!

Overall my family LOVED this campground. There is a decent sized pool that is clean and well-maintained with a smaller kiddie pool with a slide. There is also a man-made lake with a beach for swimming and bigger kids to enjoy the large inflatable slides and swim platforms. The campground is right on the river, and provides rentals for canoes, kayaks, and tubes. They will shuttle you as far up the river as you'd like to go, and you float or paddle back while enjoying all the sand bars along the way.

As an RV campground, the sites were level and grassy with at least one tree per lot. In the sites closer to the pool and lagoon (swim lake), they offer little privacy but are great for multi-family groups. We got a site with some woods in the back, so it was more quiet and private. The electrical and water hook ups were conveniently located, and the site was easy to get into. There were a lot of big Class A motorhomes, so the sites are plenty big. The tent sites are further away from the action, but have easy access to another bathroom and shower. They're also close to the river, and back up to a large corn field. There's a row of pine trees for easy hammock set up, and open grassy areas to let your group sprawl. The bathrooms were clean and nice, but they do have a $1 min for a shower. There is a change machine in the laundry facility.

The Resort also has an extensive camp shop and a huge restaurant with outdoor riverside seating. With live music and a full bar, this made for a really relaxing atmosphere if you're not up to campfire cooking.

We enjoyed this campground and it's friendly staff and campers. Even through there are a lot of people there so you're not isolated in the woods, it wasn't loud or obnoxious with partiers. It's Wisconsin, so everybody was drinking beers and having fun but it wasn't loud and rowdy. The best part is the location on the Wisconsin River- you can get your fill of quiet solitude on the water, or float in a tube with a case of beer if you like. We enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to go back! It’s a great spot to use as home base for river trips, and don’t forget the Spring Green Desert conservancy nearby. Who knew there were cactuses in Wisconsin? Total hike is about 3.2 miles round trip, with a gorgeous view of the valley.

    Lake Kegonsa State Park Campground

    Pros, cons, and Caution!

PROS: large private sites with good space between them in a lovely wooded setting. Very nice hiking trails right from campground. Lake & pet swim area.

CONS: no water, mosquitos. And… major CAUTION for RVs: there is an oak tree near entry with low branches and it took the AC off our friend’s fifth wheel. There is also a low hanging overpass and it took the roofs off TWO fifth wheels while we were staying there. Major damage on roof and internally - the RV had to be totaled and replaced. Terrible signage in park does not indicate height of bridge or warn about the oak tree. Our friends reported that the camp host said the park knows about these hazards but hasn’t taken care of them so she will “remind them” for their task list in November.

Guide to Spring Green

Camping options near Spring Green, Wisconsin stretch along the Wisconsin River valley at elevations between 750-900 feet. The area experiences warm summers with high humidity and occasional thunderstorms, making spring and fall popular camping seasons. Wisconsin River campsites often feature sandy soil that drains quickly after rainfall, though sites farther from the river may have denser clay soils.

What to do

Disc golf courses: Fox Hill RV Park & Campground offers disc golf within the campground boundaries. "There are well kept large outdoor games like chess, connect 4, and checkers. There's a playground with a basketball court and tennis and still plenty of space to play your own game, like frisbee," reports one visitor.

Local racing events: Campers can enjoy motorsports near Arrowhead RV Campground where "don't forget the racetrack across the way has races Saturday night." The track typically runs events from May through September with races starting at 7pm.

Cave exploration: Within 30 minutes of Rustic Barn Campground, visitors can explore underground caverns. "There are some amazing caves at a state park near by and not to mention all the things to do in Dubuque," notes a camper about the geological attractions in the region.

What campers like

Swimming options: Many campgrounds feature both pools and natural swimming areas. At Baraboo Hills Campground, "The pond had lots of great inflatables for the kids to climb on, and even the adults enjoyed them. The sand was clean with plenty of lounge chairs."

Outdoor movies: Fox Hill RV Park & Campground hosts summer entertainment programs for guests. "This park has some nature trails, disc golf, and a good size dog run. It's well kept and maintained," comments a satisfied visitor.

Game rooms and arcades: Recreational facilities keep families entertained during rainy days. According to one camper at Yukon Trails Camping Resort, "Rentals for golf carts are available and a store on site. Arcade for the kids. Public showers were also free if needed."

What you should know

Campsite leveling challenges: Many sites require additional equipment for proper setup. At Ho-Chunk RV Resort & Campground, "make sure to use a water filter outside your camper. The water left an orange residue in our dog bowls, sinks and pipes."

Seasonal operating schedules: Most campgrounds close for winter. Fox Hill RV Park operates from "Apr 24 - Oct 12" while Arrowhead RV Campground runs from "mid April to mid October." Winter RV camping near Spring Green remains limited to year-round facilities like River Valley RV Park.

Water access considerations: Water connections vary by location and site type. "Perfect water temperature in June. Clean facilities. Camping spots are a little rough terrain, but TT is level without levelers, but bring them just in case. Make sure you bring 50 ft of electrical cord and water hose," advises an Arrowhead RV Campground visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Inflatables and water activities: Baraboo RV Resort by Rjourney features water recreation options for all ages. "They have a fun swim hole with inflatables for the kids to play on," notes one visitor, making it a popular choice for families seeking water-based activities.

Themed weekend events: Plan your trip around special programs for enhanced experiences. At Yukon Trails, guests enjoy "Amazing events every weekend!" while Baraboo Hills hosts "Themed weekends" throughout the camping season.

Consider cabin rentals: For families new to camping, cabins provide comfort with outdoor access. "The cabins were nice, cozy. My aunt stayed there with her family and enjoyed it," mentions a Baraboo Hills camper, noting the convenience for family gatherings.

Tips from RVers

Extension cord requirements: Many RV sites have unusual power pedestal placements. At Arrowhead RV Campground, "bring extension cords for electrical hook ups.... Odd outlet placement," advises an experienced camper.

Cell service reliability: Connectivity varies throughout the region. While not universal, Nature's Touch Campground offers reasonable internet access for those needing to stay connected, though visitors should prepare for possible service limitations at more remote locations.

Senior-focused facilities: Adult-oriented campgrounds offer quieter environments. "Quiet, all drive-thrus, reasonable rates, very close to the dells, clean bathhouse. Walmart and major shopping within a half a mile. Pet friendly," reports a visitor to Country Roads Motorhome & RV Park, highlighting its advantages for older travelers.
