Shenandoah River State Park

Welcome to our small Farm and Inn, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day's hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout streams or touring the local vineyards and breweries.

We currently offer one cottage and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Many of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have three drive-in sites that will accommodate one or two vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers due to our narrow mountain driveway. Camper vans are welcome!

Our farm store includes Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy from the farm as well as produce, jams and mushrooms and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours.

The property has miles of trails along mountain spring fed steams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon and Old Rag Mountain trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards, breweries and farm to table restaurants.

Our three drive-in campsites named Birdsong, Butterfly and Gypsy Camp:

Birdsong Camp, is very private, encompassing nearly an acre, has a large campfire with cooking grill, this site comes with a small amount of firewood, has a table and chairs that seat eight, a large level tent pad, suitable for two small tents and lots of room in the grass for additional tents. Birdsong even has its own private horseshoes pits and private seasonal bathhouse, with a flushing toilet, outdoor solar bag shower during warm weather and mini outdoor kitchen that comes with a few essentials, a sink to wash dishes, countertop space, cast iron pans, grilling and serving utensils, oil and a few spices. Birdsong camp is wooded with a small meadow, sits up on a hill overlooking our farm store area, has dark skies and faces southeast.

Butterfly Camp is named for the native plant garden that attract butterflies during the warm months, has mountain views that look to the west and open dark skies for viewing stars! This site offers a campfire with cooking grill, small handwashing/dish sink, a table for two, camp chairs, a level tent site and a covered changing station with a portable toilet using biobags and a solar shower during warm weather. Butterfly camp is the closest campsite to a local winery and brewery, which can be accessed via short one mile walk using our farm road, trail and a local backroad.

Gypsy Camp sits above our working farm in a pine forest with fall and winter views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Drive in access allows campers to pitch up to 4 tents on tent pads or on the forest floor. We provide a picnic table, fire ring with cooking grate and a small amount of firewood. This is a primitive site and no potable water, flushing toilets or hot showers are provided. We do offer a small hand/dishwashing station with non-potable water, a small outdoor covered changing station with a camp toilet that uses bio bags and a solar outdoor shower during summer months.

We have many rental options on the farm. We offer a complete setup to four person tents you setup. Let us do the work! Our tipi tent with queen size air mattress, linens, pillows, blankets is a popular choice for glamping!

Our walk-in sites Sparrow and Fiddlehead are accessed via our farm trails. Each site has a table with chairs, firepit with cooking grate, a hand/dishwashing station with non-potable water and a covered changing area and a portable toilet using biobags. Sparrow camp is located 0.2 mile up the Blue Quartz Trail, located in the forest, surrounded by Mountain Laurel on a small knoll with Fall and Winter views. It is suitable for two tents or four hammock tents. Fiddlehead camp is located 0.3 mile from our farm store along a trail that follows Lily's Creek. The site sits down by the small creek is surrounded by ferns in the warm season and has room for three tents and several hammocks. We offer four-person tent and hammock tent rentals plus a setup service and gear transportation service to these sites.





Watercress Inn at Landon Farm

Bring your tent, travel trailer or RV to our farm, Located 5 miles from the town of Culpeper VA, 22 miles from skyline drive, some of the best wineries, breweries, and many more tourist attractions. Here you can spend some quality time with family and friends, go for a hike, bike ride, horse back riding, stargaze or just do nothing. We are 1 mile down a dirt road on 104 acres, our sites are very private and secluded.



Casa Vargas

We are located in the heart of Madison County on scenic route 231 near Old Rag Mountain and White Oak Canyon in Shenandoah National Park.

This charming cottage sits on a half-acre and is part of a 120-acre working farm. We have miles of walking paths or sit by the pond and enjoy a glass of wine or craft beer from one of our locals; Shotwell Run, DuCard or Revalation. Our little farm store offers Animal Welfare Approved meats, cheeses, eggs, seasonal fruits and veggies and locally made products.

The cottage was a local sawmill when it was built back in the 1950s. This one-bedroom cottage has a built-in King size bed with luxurious linens, a ceiling fan and TV with DVD player. The living room has an exposed heart pine ceiling, small office area with Wi-Fi, landline telephone, full size memory foam leather futon with linens, which is ideal for one adult or children, ceiling fan, large screen TV and DVD player, dining table, small free library as well as board games. Outdoors you can enjoy an evening at the firepit overlooking pastural and mountain views, sit on the covered porch or cook up something on the charcoal grill. You have access to our farm pond, trails, the farm store and barns, all accessible by vehicle just down the road.

Farm Experiences: Please contact us for a farm tour or if you would like to visit our farm store. We offer our Animal Welfare Approved Pork, Beef, Chicken, Eggs and Lamb as well as seasonal produce, local soaps, Shenandoah National Park maps and souvenirs, local art and essential camping gear. Sampler baskets are available for delivery to your cottage or pickup at the farm. Our breakfast basket, which includes AWA Farm Eggs, AWA Pork or Lamb Sausage, biscuit mix, local jam and local roasted coffee is a big hit for overnight guest.

Access to our river property located on a stocked trout stream is approximately 3 miles from the cottage. Just ask for a map.



Things to Note:

We are pet friendly but do require a pet fee. We ask that pets remain on a leash when at the cottage to prevent chasing of our neighbors' cats or horses. It is also required when on the farm to prevent any chasing of farm animals including, ducks, chickens, goats, sheep, cows, pigs and cats. Please note that we have farm dogs on the property who are not leashed but they do not visit the cottage.

Our cottage property is neighbored by a lovely small horse farm. The horses sometimes come say hello over the fence. Please do not touch or feed the horses or trespass over the fence.

Please note that Madison County and the area surrounding area including Shenandoah National Park has limited cell phone service and that high-speed internet is not an option in our area. Most of our guests with AT&T or Verizon will get one to two bars at the cottage. Our Wi-Fi is perfect for checking email or searching the internet, but our satellite is too slow for video or large downloads (doing this will make the internet speed even slower for the next person). Please take this time to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors!

Please note that the cottage is located in the country! All of our homes are on well water and many homes in the area have iron, sulfur and other elements in the drinking water.

Bugs and other pests: If you leave food on the counter or another mess in the kitchen, you might get a visit from an ant or mouse. If you leave food outside unattended you may get a visit from a raccoon, possum, a neighbor's dog or even a bear. If you leave the doors or windows open (without screens) you will likely get stink bugs, lady bugs, flies, spiders, etc. If you leave the lights off at night, you'll likely see fireflies lighting up the night sky during the summer.

Our Area:

The lower parking lot for Shenandoah National Park (SNP) White Oak Canyon is 10 miles down lovely back roads. The parking lot for SNP Old Rag Mountain is 8 miles away and for the real adventurous a great dirt backroad to travel by if you want to travel by bike. Shotwell Run Brewery and Blue Quartz Winery are a half mile down the road, DuCard, Sharp Rock and Revalation Vineyards are 6 miles. Bald Top Brewing is 9.5, Early Mountain and Prince Michel Vineyard are about 12 miles away. I can give you maps of nice driving tours down backroads. Sperryville is 13 miles to the North which has some great restaurant, shops and a small grocery store. Madison is 8 miles to the South and has a Foodlion, Dollar General, 24 hour 7-11, gas stations, fast food and a few restaurants. Looking for a great trout fishing spot? Our river property is 3 miles to the south on the Robinson River near Criglersville and a great gallery called The Possum Store, which has live music on the weekends. The Hughes River is 5 miles to the north and the Rose is 5 miles to the west, access to The Rapidan Wildlife Management Area and the Rapidan River, made famous by President Hoover, is 5 miles. Graves Mountain Lodge is 6 miles down the road. You can ride horses, attend their summer Bluegrass Festival, Fall Apple Festival or eat country style at one of their buffets, they also have a country store in Syria. Looking for some simple provisions, a great BBQ or ice cream, visit the Little Country Store just 3 miles down the road!



Sawmill Cottage near Shenandoah National Park

Big Meadows Campground (mile 51.2) is centrally-located in Shenandoah National Park, providing easy access to many of the most popular destinations in the Park, including Big Meadows, Dark Hollow Falls, and Byrd Visitor Center. All sites include a place for a tent or RV, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Secluded in the thick trees and rolling hills of Shenandoah National Park, the Big Meadows Campground is the ideal spot for camping near Washington. Natural Features: Shenandoah National Park spans 300 square miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the southern Appalachians. The park rises above the Virginia Piedmont to its east and the Shenandoah Valley to its west. The scenery at Meadows Campground never disappoints, with a stunning array of colors in the fall and a blanket of bright wildflowers in the spring. This green and shady campground is a wilderness paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Recreation: Shenandoah National Park has over 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Some trails lead to a waterfall or viewpoint while others wind deep into the forest and wilderness. Big Meadows is near many of the major facilities and popular hiking trails in the park. Three waterfalls are within walking distance, and the Meadow, with its abundant plant growth and wildlife, is an ideal nearby attraction. Wildlife viewing is also a popular pastime, with black bears, wild turkey, deer, birds and countless other animals thriving in the park. The campground is also located right off the famous Skyline Drive, which runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Stunning views are visible from any of the 75 scenic overlooks. Facilities: This expansive campground offers more than 200 campsites, including sites that can accommodate larger groups. Picnic areas are provided, as modern conveniences like flush toilets, showers and dump stations create a comfortable camping experience. Hike In Cabin off the AT - 1.5 to 4 miles depending on if you hike off the AT or Skyline Dr (sometimes Skyline is closed)

This recently restored four-room, public cabin is located in the Central District of Shenandoah National Park. Found along the river in Nicholson Hollow, the chestnut log cabin served as the mountain home of moonshiner George Corbin. It was lovingly restored first in 1954 and again in 2017, to preserve the original character of the cabin. Access Corbin by a 1.5-mile hike-in, or a four mile hike-in when Skyline Drive is closed. There, you will find a charming living space with a fireplace next to the kitchen with a wood stove and dining area. Climb the stairs to find a single double-width bunk and two double deck bunks. Bears and snakes are frequently spotted in this area, as a result to the proximity to the river. This cabin offers an abundance of hiking opportunities, in an ideal location within SNP. Call SNP at 540/999-3500 (option 1, option 1) for Skyline Drive closure information and be prepared to pay the Park entrance fee.

Corbin Cabin 

116 acres of rolling hills, streams, old growth hardwood forest and other areas of young growth pine forest. This property has wildflower meadows and miles of interconnecting hiking trails.

It's been very dry and the sites are all accessible by vehicle except site 10 which is a "hike in" site. The distance is only about 20 yards along a beautiful hiking trail. Site 10 is especially cozy for nature lovers. In wet conditions we will drive you to your site in our 4WD vehicle if needed. (See details for each site)

Pitch your tent in the forest or meadow and walk the labyrinth, sit around a fire ring, and explore miles of marked hiking trails. More adventurous campers may want to explore the wilderness woods and observe the native plants and wildlife. There is an area of 50 acres across from the pipeline open for hiking. Here you will find a large system of beaver dams beaver channels and their ponds, along with all the native plants in this old growth hardwood forest. Deep in the 50 acres you will find these beaver dams where three small streams meet. These streams become "Clear Creek" and feed Lake Orange which is about 2 miles away as the crow flies.

Each designated site has a picnic table, a fire pit, a stash of firewood and container of fresh potable water.

Camp near a vernal pool and hear the frogs and crickets. (site 3 Salamander Loop) Great opportunities for bird watching. Investigate six different kinds of bamboo - including Giant Japanese Timber Bamboo, Giant Vivax, Giant Moso Gray, Thick-stem, Giant Black and Golden Bamboo. This is an herb farm - so there are lots of fruits and berries to sample in season.

The place where the first permanent British colony in mainland North America was founded in 1607, Virginia is a state with an exceptional history and abundant natural attractions. From colonial towns and Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields to various Presidential Homes, including one that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, history is never far away when camping in Virginia. Nature, too, is an intricate part of Virginia’s state identity.

Shenandoah National Park, protecting a section of the Blue Ridge Mountains’ crest, is an outdoor playground for hikers, cyclists, wildlife watchers and road trippers alike. The property is home to herds of whitetail deer, wild turkeys, bull frogs, box turtles, visiting Canada Geese, Wood Ducks, Great Blue Herons and Red-tailed Hawks, eagles, chickens, cranes, and 3 rescue dogs.

After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location.

If a Tentrr Host submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the host's property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Reservation Modifications/Cancellations: Please note the terms of the cancelation policy as they are outlined in your confirmation email. Your Tentrr Host is unable to change or cancel your reservation on your behalf, and they are unable to waive any cancellation fees (if applicable). Other Things to Note:
Be safe in the river and please let us know if you need anything to make your stay more enjoyable.  Firearms are not permitted on the property.  Neighbors farm and hunt so please respect property lines. There is also a seasonal rodeo nearby that may add some extra country sounds to your visit.  The property is 50 acres so you should definitely be able to escape! There is a cellphone tower across the street so coverage is typically great for everyone that needs it.

Tentrr Signature Site - Riverstone

Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of central Virginia, The Camp at Dearsville will take you back to a simpler time. This piece of land is steeped in Civil War history and is known for the famed very narrow escape of one of the Confederacy's most prominent figures, General J.E.B. Stuart in August of 1862. He mounted his horse Skylark and vaulted a fence, narrowly escaping but losing his hat. 
The campsite is situated on the edge of a field overlooking the land where Stuart escaped. Replace the bustle of busy roads with the sights and sounds of nature. You can drive up to our campsite to unplug and relax, however 4x4 may be recommended in adverse weather conditions. Clear nights provide incredible views of the stars above. Jebs Escape is secluded enough to escape reality, but just a short drive to Edwards General Store, Unionville Brewing Co (3 Miles), and many Civil War era landmarks.

While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location.

If a Tentrr Host submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the host's property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Reservation Modifications/Cancellations: Please note the terms of the cancelation policy as they are outlined in your confirmation email. Your Tentrr Host is unable to change or cancel your reservation on your behalf, and they are unable to waive any cancellation fees (if applicable). Tentrr Signature Site - Stuart's Skylark- The Camp at Dearsville

Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of central Virginia, The Camp at Dearsville will take you back to a simpler time. Formerly the site of Verdiersville Tavern who's claim to fame was a House of Entertainment for the Accommodation of Travellers. The area saw heavy military action and troop movements in the Civil War. This campsite is situated on the edge of a field, providing great wooded views. Replace the bustle of busy roads with the sights and sounds of nature. You can drive up to our campsite to unplug and relax, however 4x4 may be recommended in adverse weather conditions. Clear nights provide incredible views of the stars above. Verdiersville Tavern is secluded enough to escape reality, but just a short drive to Edwards General Store, Unionville Brewing, and many Civil War era landmarks. 
We are in the perfect location to visit historical landmarks and visit some of Virginia's best wineries! Enjoy a glass of award winning wine in Virginia's wine country!

This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature! 

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed with a memory foam mattress. The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that___s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs, and a heating source to keep you warm and toasty at night. 

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation. 

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

2 - TENT and RV sites here

Located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia 15 miles from the Swift Run entrance to the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive along a constantly moving creek with plenty of wildlife. There is a picnic table and a fire ring.

This is a PRIMITIVE CAMPING

There are:

- NO TOILETS
- NO SHOWERS
- NO POTABLE WATER
- NO TRASH



You must pack out what you bring. You are welcome to purify water from the creek. There is plenty of kindling wood to gather to help get your fire going. You may use any wood you find for firewood.

It is a good idea to:

- bring some firewood
- table cloth for picnic table
- be informed campers…if you are new to camping please ask your veteran camping friends for tips. One great tip I received before my first trip was "plan and prep your meals for camping - prepping meals at a camp is challenging and time consuming." Of course that changes if you are in a deluxe RV with a nice galley!



Quiet time after 10 PM. This is near Massanutten Resort. There are many country roads traveling through Virginia farm country for great cycling. The Shenandoah River and the Rivanna are nearby for kayaking. Day trips are easy to the Shenandoah National Park, George Washington National Forest and Seneca Rocks.



ROB'S LAND

Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay are some of the best camping locations in Virginia. Near Virginia Beach, VA, camping by the beach gives you easy access to water activities that include catching a glimpse of marine life like sea turtles, sharks, and stingrays. The oceanside city is the ideal place to gather any supplies you need before heading to your campsite. Campgrounds by Fort Story let campers walk, boat, or drive up to campsites.
