Kings Creek Tent sites at Cheatham Annex

There may be a bit of confusion about camping opportunities at Cheatham Annex Bass. It used to be that there was only one campground for the whole base, with a combo of RV sites and tent sites. The options have expanded and changed: a brand new RV park was built several miles away on the northside of the base, and it has its own brand new Rec Center and bath facilities etc. The Kings Creek Campground is on the south side where the old RV park used to be, but is now for tent camping only. There are still the remnant water and electric hookups available, and each site has plenty of grass for setting up tents, or you can set up on the cement pad. Each site has a picnic table, only some have fire rings. Sites 11 through 18 are in a loop around a nice kids playground, with trees surrounding the sites and glimmers of Kings Creek in the background. Sites 1-10 in the adjacent loop are right on the water where Kings Creek enters the York River, and the sites circle round a nice picnic area. Sites 6-7 are currently not being rented out as it has been discovered that the gravesite of a Revolutionary War soldier is located right there. Both tent loops have close access to a nice clean bathhouse, and there is good proximity to the base golf course and a really nice outdoor swimming pool. A great fishing pier nearby extends out into the York River. The MWR office rents kayaks and other equipment and has a coffee shop if you want hot breakfast

Peach on the Water

Sites: 19 tent

Grill, water, electric, picnic table, trash, showers, laundry, toilets, playground, golf course What a beautiful small spot sitting on the York River and along side. Nice space between sites. You will think you are camping out in the country except for the golf course sitting right across the street. I enjoyed the location and the thought of being on a military installations always give me a very safe and welcome feeling. There is a small grave site Irene A Whitby, born in 1862 and passed in 1915 located in the campground. INot sure if she haunts the campground. I am trying to obtain additional information.

Weekend trip

Stopped in for a quick weekend trip to Williamsburg. The ONLY complaint I can think of is the water hose at the dump station was cut off, so I couldn’t run my in take sprinkler to clean the tank out often using the dump station.

Other than that this place was great! Concrete pads on all of the sites, you weren’t camping on top of other campers, hiking trails, and full hookups including cable! You can’t beat it for the price!

Love it! Secluded and quite a bit to do

We ended up staying here because everything else was booked and we needed a place to stay for the kiddos soccer tournament. The sites are close but not on top of each other. We have an RV but there are cabins and tent sites. There are paved and dirt roads/trails, a pond, shower areas and is right on the water. They also have a light game by the showers that the kids loved. We’ll be back!

Military campground near Williamsburg, VA

We stayed here for 11 days in a 34-foot travel trailer. The location along the Colonial Parkway, just over a mile from downtown Williamsburg, is hard to beat. Cheatham Annex doesn't have many amenities, but you are close enough to the town that it is not an inconvenience. The campground has one bath house located on the far side, next to a minuscule playground. The bathhouse and laundry facility is new, clean, and very nice. The sites are decently spaced apart, though the management does have the tendency to clump campers together even though there are plenty other open areas. Wifi was only available at the ends of the campground and absent in the middle. Full hookups were reliable.... when there wasn't a base-wide power outage. After a nasty storm, the power remained out on base for over 24 hours, much much longer than the surrounding communities. The camp hosts were practically useless. I would love to give this more stars but these experiences brought it down.

Affordable Lodgeing in Williamsburg for Military Families

Beautiful area with views of the York River. Tons of cabins and house rentals along with RV and tent camping sights. It is located on a military base so access is limited to those with base access. The base is more of an industrial area with lots of traffic but some of the cabins sit back on the water so noise is not an issue.
