Military Park Fort Story Cape Henry RV Park

Active and retired military families can access this wooded campground at Fort Story Navy Base, where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. The facility sits near the historic Cape Henry lighthouses and provides both RV sites with electric and water hookups plus tent camping areas without utilities.

Sites offer generous spacing with mature trees providing natural separation between neighbors. The bathhouse maintains clean, modern facilities according to campers. Cell service and internet connectivity remain limited throughout the grounds, though the base fitness center provides 24-hour access for registered users. An express store operates with restricted hours for basic supplies.

The nearby beach draws fewer crowds than First Landing State Park Campground and welcomes dogs. Steve V. notes the "large sites, shaded, and semi private" setup with trees between camping areas. Base walking paths and beach access provide opportunities to disconnect from digital distractions.

Morning reveille sounds across the base, so light sleepers should plan accordingly. Reservations are available through military recreation services, and the campground office staff provides area information for base activities and nearby attractions.

Campers regularly cited spacious, shaded sites and helpful staff as key strengths. The wooded military base location offers beach access and quiet surroundings, though WiFi connectivity and morning reveille may affect some visitors.

Disconnect and enjoy long walks

Cellular signal and Starlink won't work well here and the campground WiFi isn't great. But in the true spirit of camping, this is a great place to disconnect and take long walks around the base and the beach. The express store nearby has limited hours but the fitness center allows for 24/7 access if you register your ID card with MWR.

FortStory at historic Cape Henry

This campground is a recreational opportunity for active and retired military snd their families. This campground is located at the Fort Story Navy Base, set in a wooded area not far from a nice beach right at the corner of where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic. Two historic lighthouse mark the spot! The campground has both basic RV sites with hookups, and also tent sites without. The sites are fairly spacious with lots of trees. The staff at the campground office are very nice and have basic MWR info for the area. Though not right on the beach, the beach is nearby and is much quieter than the beach at the nearby and more crowded “First Landing” State Park.

Overnight Stop

1 night stop while traveling the east coast. Friendly staff that provided lots of assistance when making reservation and giving directions to the campground. Large sites, shaded, and semi private (some trees between sites and sites not right on top of each other). Close to beach (dog friendly beach!) and lots of sightseeing and restaurants nearby. Bathhouse was clean and modern. Will visit again.
