    Amicalola Falls State Park Camping

    Site 18: Don’t let the “hardest site to back into” reviews scare you! There’s a trick.

    We stayed at Site 18, which has a reputation for being one of the hardest sites to back into. There’s definitely a trick to it! Pull your truck forward along the site, then pull out toward the site across from you, making an S-turn. From there, line it up and back in. It's tricky, but doable!

    We loved this area and packed a lot into our stay. We visited BJ’s Apple Orchard, stopped at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm (where I somehow ended up with a 150-pound pumpkin 😂), had dinner at Cascades Restaurant, and took the easy way to see the falls.

    The fenced-in sites were a huge plus, especially with our pups. It gave them more room to roam. The bathrooms and showers are individual rooms, which was nice, and the welcome center is one of the nicest we’ve come across.

    And then there’s THE HILL. I was born and raised in the Smokies, so I’m no stranger to mountain roads, but the incline is no joke! The reviews are absolutely not exaggerating when they say it’s steep. Come prepared!

    I have T-mobile and husband has Xfinity and we both have great service. Wifi in the campground gets the job done for Netflix at night.

    Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful area, plenty to explore, dog-friendly sites, and a campground we’d visit again. 🏕️🥾

    Family Park with Easy Access Convenient to Atlanta, Georgia

    Wonderful park in the metro Atlanta area. Friendly staff willing to assist in many ways as you would expect from a family owned park. I found the lady in the front office friendly and willing to give local advice and assistance on some questions I had. Located less than a mile of 85 North, it is a great location to stay when visiting Atlanta, Georgia. Most spots are long pull-throughs, but some can be close together. Quiet despite being in metro atlanta. It could use a refresh of some landscaping but otherwise it was a nice place to stay.

    We drove up to check out a fishing spot. We didn’t drive across the concrete creek crossing to the main part of camp. The campsites at the entrance looked clean and the creek was nice. Did see a copperhead on the way out.

    Andrew's Cove Campground — Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest

    Peaceful Mountain Creek Camping

    ⛺️ We stayed at Site #10. It has two lantern poles, a fire ring with cooking grate, a wooden bench, and a long picnic table.

    🌲 The entire campground felt incredibly calm and peaceful. The creek can be heard even from the campsites farther uphill, where the road noise also fades away. We stayed closer to the road and didn’t find the traffic bothersome—but we’re car people and actually enjoyed seeing the bikes and other cars joyriding around the curves. 😂

    🏕️ This is a pack-in/pack-out campground, so plan to take all trash with you when you leave.

    💧 The creek was cold and refreshing! We loved walking through it, and our dog did too.

    🎣 We fished the creek and had just as much fun looking for creek critters—we found crawfish and salamanders.

    🪶 Oddly enough, we didn’t see or hear many birds during our stay, but the sound of the creek more than made up for it.

    🚽 There is one pit toilet restroom with a hook for hanging a lantern or bag and a hand sanitizer dispenser. There was enough natural light that we didn’t need a lantern during the day. I’d suggest packing extra toilet paper—it was stocked, but the roll was running low by the end of the weekend.

    🪵 We bought firewood from Southern Legacy Wood Products — 1605 Helen Hwy, Cleveland, GA — on the way in.

    ✨ After five campgrounds, Andrews Cove is officially our favorite so far. Quiet, shaded, beautiful mountain creek, and the kind of campground where simply hanging around camp was enough entertainment.

    About 5 dispersed spots scattered along an accessible road. Only about 3 spots available that hasn’t been ruined from trash and belongings from people that was staying there long term and left everything. Okay for an overnight stay. All the trash really ruined any vibe to be had. I stayed at the spot on top of the steep hill

    Jacksonville North-St. Marys KOA

    Not up to KOA standards

    I have been a KOA member for more than 20 years and have generally had very good experiences. Unfortunately, this particular KOA was a major disappointment. My wife and I brought our two grandkids on an eight-day trip and specifically chose this campground because of several advertised amenities: a pool with a slide, a game room, and a DVD player in the deluxe cabin. We paid more than$900 for our stay. When I booked, the campground disclosed that it was undergoing water and sewer upgrades and warned guests to expect construction and possible“brief water/power interruptions.” That seemed reasonable, and I had no problem with it. Unfortunately, what we encountered went well beyond a brief interruption. The DVD player in our cabin did not work. I reported it to the office and was told the owner would be notified and someone would get back to me. No one ever did. We then received a text stating that the pool slide was not operating because of electrical upgrades. When we went to use the pool anyway, there was a considerable amount of debris that looked like dirt floating in the water, and the surface underneath the water was badly peeling. My grandkids didn't want to get in. We tried the game room next. It had no electricity, none of the games were operating, there was no air conditioning, and the room was extremely hot. At that point, we decided to leave and find a hotel that actually had the amenities we had expected. For a little over$100 per night, we found a very nice hotel and stayed there instead. We returned to the campground the following Saturday for our final night, and unfortunately, the same issues were still present. In the end, we used only three of the eight nights we paid for. I understand that construction and upgrades have to happen. What I don't think is reasonable is continuing to advertise amenities such as a pool slide and game room when they are going to be unavailable for an extended period, while still charging guests the full rate. A warning about possible“brief water/power interruptions” did not accurately describe what we experienced. After returning home, I contacted the KOA. I made it clear that I was not asking for a refund for the three nights we actually stayed there. Since one night was already planned for a hotel in Orlando, I simply requested a partial refund or other reasonable adjustment for the four unused nights after we left because the advertised amenities were unavailable or unusable. I even offered to provide our hotel receipts. I have received no response from the campground's management. That may be the most disappointing part of the experience. After more than 20 years as a KOA member, I expected at least the courtesy of a response. I chose this campground because I trusted the KOA name and wanted my grandkids to enjoy the amenities that were advertised. Unfortunately, they were probably the most disappointed of all. Hopefully this helps others considering staying here. Based on our experience, this campground did not meet the KOA standards I have come to expect over the past 20+ years.

    Campsite was the perfect lake front spot for our dog’s last camping adventure with us. The resort felt super safe for 2 females traveling with their dog and all campsites and bathrooms were super clean.
