Ani, Fitch and I are regular folks living out our personal dream. Three years ago we left our South Florida home and custom furniture business to pursue a new goal. We wanted to do something special, something different and interesting with our lives. Have we done that? You be the judge.

We set out to design and hand build an experience in environmentally friendly living that balances modern and old-world homestead features.

You will see us erecting micro-cabins, installing solar arrays, dry toilets and composting. We are big believers in being mindful and respectful of our environment wherever possible. But also in being reasonable and balanced. So, we are incorporating both alternative and municipality utilities as they fit our homestead design.

Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" bio-compatible, small living can feel. How freeing it can be to identify real wants and needs from perceived ones, and then make our personal ideals a reality. We hope to accomplish at least that. We certainly are working hard to do so.

To be completely transparent, though, we also would like to inspire others to do the same, in their own case. We all have priorities and they vary vastly...and that's okay. But never should they be so self-focused that we shut out the importance of being good to the earth and good to others.

It is a challenge to shut out some of the world's noise and figure out what we each really need and what we really want from life, versus what we have been trained to. Even if we can, it is even more difficult to muster the courage to make the changes necessary to go and get that life.

At the very least we hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to living or to nature here, and that they can appreciate some of our old-fashioned ways. All of that while having a relaxing getaway in our unique hideaway.

A paddler’s paradise, this Lowcountry park sits a short distance from I-95 and connects to Givhans Ferry State Park via 23 miles of blackwater river. Colleton State Park provides easy access to the Edisto River, one of the longest free flowing, blackwater rivers in the country, and serves as the headquarters for the Edisto River canoe and kayak trail.

Other amenities at Colleton include an easy nature trail, a campground, picnic shelters and ballfields.

Camping Information: The main roads at the park and in the campground are paved. Each site is packed sand and includes individual water, 20/30/50 amp electrical hookups and sewer. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, other sites up to 25 feet. The campground is convenient to restrooms with hot showers. There is Wi-fi access near the bathhouse that covers most the campground.

Minutes from downtown Beaufort’s waterfront park and the charming Port Royal with its beach area and nature walk. Wonderful walking, hiking, biking trails nearby. Great fishing in the area and room for boat/multiple vehicle parking. Boat landing just a couple minutes away. Nice places to kayak nearby as well. Two RV/camper/van sites available. 30amp and city water at site 1. Site 2 is a boondock site with city water and the option to use 15amp electric via provided cords. Septic on site to empty tanks as needed and assisted macerator pump use available for longer stays. 2wk max stay. 2 night minimum stay for site 1 or 2. Whether it’s exploring new areas, enjoying beaches, dining, shopping, or just in need of a safe place to park with hookups, Low Country is worthy of a visit. Located on a short dead end street with just a few homes. Country setting but close to town.  For overnight accommodations, furnished cabins sit nestled in the woods for rent, as well as campsites which can be found along the Edisto Island oceanfront or in the shaded maritime forest. Wifi is also available in select areas, as well as bathrooms, showers, and electrical hookups in most campsites. In fact, 120 sites can accommodate RVs or tents, with 115 sites offering 50 amp electrical service.
