And Amazing Space

Nnothing could be better than waking up to livestock outside your window grazing. They are so beautiful and the view from every angle is amazing. Loved that we still had our own space vs being packed in like other campgrounds. We will be back most definitely!

Secluded Pasture

The campsite is at the edge of a livestock pasture, though most of the sites are within a pine grove with a dense floor of needles and cones.  Would be a delightful site for small children to watch animals (cows, pigs, sheep) once they are trained not to step on the numerous cow pies.  The presence of livestock may also present an anxiety for dogs if they are not used to large animals moving close by.  Drive time listed to Charleston is very low, due to severe traffic congestion in the region.  Not the farm's doing, but it took us 45 min to the city in the mornings (~9:30AM) and usually an hour plus back at night (2-4PM).  Campsite is quiet, particularly after dark when the nearby general aviation airport shuts down for visibility, and light pollution to watch stars is minimal. No-seeums were present when we stayed the last week of March, but no mosquitos yet - despite proximity of the site to Hut creek.  Waterfowl, egrets and and eagles were seen, no evidence of squirrels, raccoons, or the usual campsite invaders.

Great Farm Campground

Very nice bucolic setting in the pine woods on the edge of a cow meadow. One very clean outhouse. No problem getting out in our 2wd Sprinter van. Long trailers might be more difficult

Solitude and Ease of Use/Booking

This was one of the best experiences of our life. We are seasoned campers but this was our first Dyrt booking. The whole process was easy and clear. As millennials we appreciate the privacy and the fact that we didn’t have to call anyone or really deal with anyone. Waking up to cows/water buffalo was an added bonus. The host does an amazing job and provide amenities that really upgrade the primitive nature. Nice privy, campfire ring, picnic table. To the family that owns this place, thank you for allowing us to visit your property. This was a beautiful experience and we are so grateful you share this slice of heaven with us. Thank you. Coming again next week.

PRIMITIVE

I stayed here for 4 nights and each one was different.  The first night (Thursday) I was the only one there.  Well, except for the Racoon who thought I was an easy mark for a meal.  No such luck Rocky! The second night 1 other person came along.  The sites are so big that we had a lot of privacy while still knowing someone was around if necessary. The 3rd night was Saturday and almost all of the sites were filled.  Quiet, respectful and efficient seems to be the general behavior of campers here. The last night, it was just me and the other guy again.  Don't be startled by the cows and donkeys who come to visit in the morning.  There is an outhouse, but I don't use outhouses, so LNT and be aware that this is a working farm, the animals have the right of way.  Oh yeah, a dolphin swam by in the inlet one morning.  Took me by surprise!!!

Special Spot to camp

really great spot to sit and stare at the marshland and take in the view of all the little crabs crawling around the banks of the water. We really enjoyed the peaceful camp after a long day at the beach. Nice way to beat the crowds on a memorial day weekend! Thanks for sharing the space and we look forward to going again

Peaceful and Restful

This was the perfect place to set up camp for a night on our way to the beach, though we would’ve loved to stay longer. The arrival instructions were accurate and very helpful. The campground area was so quiet, and peaceful  - a great place to disconnect.

Worth the price.

Primitive site with fire pit and picnic table. Perfect for the ones who need quiet and isolation. Minutes away from typical groceries or dollar stores. Self check in and check out. Only reason why it's not a full 5 stars is simply having to move cow droppings for set up. Definitely would go back!

Best hidden camp

This is by far one of the best places to stay. Staff is friendly, it’s hidden on the water but close to town if you want to enjoy all the gems of Charleston.

Very peaceful

We stayed one night on site 5, which overlooks a large field where the cows roam. Our toddler loved having the freedom to run around in the wide open spaces and run over dried-up cow patties with his toy tractor 😂 It was breezy so we didn't have any issues with “no-see-ums” or “sand gnats” but I would imagine on a still day they would be bad. The other camp sites in the woods are right by the marsh, which was pretty, but the bugs love it! Be sure to be self-contained as the only bathroom is an outside- but it was a nice outhouse! Overall we enjoyed our visit and will be back!
