Beach access drives the appeal at Pirateland Family Camping Resort, where RV sites sit within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean shoreline. The 300-site campground operates on sandy terrain with grass coverage varying by location, and campers can choose between oceanfront sites near the dunes or inland spots tucked under tree cover that provide shade during summer months.
Site spacing runs tight throughout the resort, with RVs positioned close enough that neighboring conversations carry easily between units. Roger W. describes the "setting: open and tight with trailers," while noting that sites "closer to the dunes the more you can hear the beautiful sound of wave action." Golf carts dominate the internal road system, creating constant traffic as families navigate between sites, amenities, and the beach. Evening golf cart parades run from 9-11 PM, with decorated vehicles creating a social atmosphere that appeals to outgoing campers but may disturb those seeking quieter evenings.
The resort centers around water recreation, featuring a lazy river, swimming pool, and splash pad alongside direct beach access. Kayak and pedal boat rentals provide alternatives to ocean swimming, while the beach allows leashed dogs before 10 AM and after 5 PM. Food trucks rotate through the property during peak season, offering BBQ, funnel cakes, and other carnival-style options. The camp store stocks forgotten essentials at reasonable prices, and clean bathhouses include outdoor showers and foot-washing stations for post-beach cleanup.
Full hookup sites accommodate large RVs, though navigating narrow roads between trees challenges bigger rigs in some sections. Donna H. notes that oceanfront sites can appear "sandy and looked a little sketchy to back into," but reports no actual difficulties. Cell service varies by carrier, with some campers reporting data connectivity issues despite available WiFi. The resort requires reservations and allows pets throughout the property.
Pirateland suits families comfortable with crowded conditions who prioritize beach proximity and social interaction over privacy and quiet camping experiences.
