The best GROUP camping near

Payne Lake East is primitive camping that costs $6 dollars a night.  From here you can access the amenities on the west shore.  We are here in mid February and all but one of the full hook up sites on the west side are occupied.  However, on the east side there is only one other camper. The lake is very pretty and has an area for swimming and a boat launch.  On the east side the water is shut off this time of year, but it is available at the dump station.   The east side offers a pit toilet, picnic tables and lantern post at each site.  Apparently there are alligators here, but they are seldom seen this time of year per the campground host. We really enjoyed our stay at Wind Creek. The lake is beautiful with plenty amenities. There are quite a few campsites on the lake, the rest still have lake views. Some slots are smaller than others, which is something you have to be cautious about when reserving your spot. Other than that, everything was amazing! Wind Creek is definitely a place we will return to in the near future and quite often! Check out the views from the Silo in the day use area! Amazing views of the lake!

This park has beautiful sites. We stayed in the premium waterfront (January 15th for 6 days, during offseason) and while there were quite a few other neighbors we felt like we had the place to ourselves. I’m sure the place is hopping during season. We kayaked, fished, hiked and the kids geocached, biked and scootered. Great cell service (my kids homeschool). The bath houses were extraordinarily clean and we saw them cleaning them at least once a day. The camp store was a little bare but had a great selection of live bait and tackle. Would definitely return again

Love this park, you really forget how close to Birmingham you are. Lot’s to do here, camping , biking, fishing, hiking . So worth a visit if you’ve never been here .

Gunter Hill is a gem of a campground! Sites are spacious, long, and paved with full hookups. We were on the lake in site 28. The bathrooms & showers are older but adequate. Wished we could have stayed more than one night.

We only stayed one night. Large campground, broken into 3 areas. Lots of camp sites and cabins too. Campground was wooded, clean and had all the amenities you could need.

What else can you ask for, quiet and isolated. Restroom was nice and clean and camp host was available for any questions. Plenty of firewood to use around the property.

Beautiful spot for hiding in the dark and peeking at other campers.

Huge campground and the sites are fairly close and crowed for a state park. Beautiful location. Waterfront sites have a week minimum but if any are available at check in time you can upgrade.
