About

Chickasabogue Park is temporarily closed to the public effective Jan 31, 2022, for infrastructure and amenity improvements. It will remain closed until construction and renovation are complete. It’s estimated the park will be closed for at least a year.

While the park is closed, residents should note that the nearest alternate boat launch is at William Brooks Park, located at 601 US-43, Chickasaw, AL 36611. The nearest Mobile County RV campground is River Delta Marina and Campground, 2350 Dead Lake Road, Creola, AL 36525; reservations may be made by calling 251-574-2266.

Park renovation includes infrastructure work like water, sewer and roadwork as well as construction of an events and interpretive center, playground/splash pad area, RV campground, parking areas, boat ramp, additional disc golf holes, and new restroom facilities. Once it reopens, Chickasabogue will have improved amenities including its trails, basketball courts, restrooms, pavilions, RV camping sites and generally enhanced park infrastructure.

Chickasabogue Park is an 1,100-acre outdoor recreation facility and wildlife refuge in Eight Mile, Alabama. The park is less than 15 minutes from downtown Mobile and provides a wide variety of outdoor activities in a natural setting while protecting the environment and preserving the diversity of indigenous plants and animals. The park has about 17 miles of hiking and biking trails, a disc golf course, sports fields, a boat launch, RV campgrounds, and a beach on Chickasabogue Creek, which connects the park to Mobile Bay.

Chickasabogue Park improvements are part of Mobile County Commission’s multi-year, $40 million parks improvement initiative that includes $35 million for increased public access to water.

Mobile County Commission’s parks improvement initiative is made possible through funding generated by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA). Authorized uses of GOMESA funds, generated through Alabama’s offshore oil and gas drilling leases, include conserving, protecting and mitigating the impact of such activity by implementing a federally-approved conservation plan. Part of the local conservation plan is to increase public access to shoreline recreational areas, such as along the Chickasabogue Creek.

Be ready to hike it in primitive tent

My wife and I stayed for 3 days. The worst part was had to hike in about a mile to primitive camp and the spots are not well marked. One we got set up though had a great time beautiful spot. Then had to pack and hike out

Hidden Gem

This place totally surprised us with how nice it was! They accept Passport America, so a full hookup sight was about $9/night. $18 without Passport America. Sites are large and private. Many are pull through. We had our own kayaks and bikes, so we went kayaking in the creek and mountain biking on marked trails all in one day! Bath houses were older, but were clean and everything worked. This felt like a state park where you would pay $30/night.

There are swampy areas so it is somewhat buggy at dawn and dusk. I highly recommend the place and would stay here again.

In The Swamp Creek

This is a neat little campground that kinda sits between 8 mile and Saraland,AL. Not a very big area for you to camp if you have a pull behind or big RV. But people do manage to get the bigger camper and RV's in and parked. Could use a little more clean up in the three bathhouses and around the campground. Be a decent little stop for the night if you are just traveling through.

Cheap camping

Good campsites with lots of trails and hiking. Very nice open field and playground. Very well kept and maintained. There is a river with a beach and a swimming area. You can rent canoes. Only downsides are you have to go through some pretty shady areas to get there. They also do not allow alchohol or firearms even if you have a ccl. The canoe rentals go quick since the river beach area is for everyone not just campers. If you want peaceful camping in the woods for cheap this is it.

Cheap

Not one of my favorites but there Is a good size river to swim and kayak. It's very muddy and not in the best part of town. But if you need a spot of dirt to pitch your tent it ain't to bad

Perfect for local weekend getaway

Chickasabogue is a bit run down but it’s a great spot to get away from the bustle of daily life. There’s a sports field, water access, and several short, easy paths to hKe. It’s pet friendly and family friendly.

Peaceful

This is a nice campground. It has RV hookup, tent sites, and site with just electric and water hookup for campers or tents. We stayed in site 11. We had two large tents. Each site has picnic table and fire ring and small open type grill. Several bathhouses. Playgrounds ball fields and also a roped off swimming area. The swimming area has sidewalk almost to the beach area but the ground all the way to the sand is hard so wheelchair's, strollers, ice chest, and anything with wheels is perfect. Nice covered patios with tables near swimming area. Nice boat launch and plenty of fishing

Spacious sites, very good prices, things to do

There are a choice of sites, I believe they all have power & water hookups The dedicated tent sites are of course smaller, but you can also choose sites closer to the showers that are very spacious and can accommodate tents or campers for only $5 more. There are RV sites as well. There is hiking, a sports complex, a playground, a small beach area with roped off swimming and covered picnic tables, a boat dock and canoe/kayak rental.

I chose one of the sites closer to the showers because of the spaciousness. These sites all have a picnic table, fire pit and hibachi. The site I was on could easily have fit 4 very decent sized tents (6-10 person tents easily). There are hiking trails leading off from the site.

The ants were not a problem & definitely not as bad as compared to other local sites I've camped at. The only negative I have is that the sound from the nearby highway is definitely noticed.
