Quick drive to the beach!

Family-owned park about 10 minutes (+/-) from the closest beach. Amazingly clean restrooms with nice showers and full hook-ups. The front office even had ice cream parties and scavenger hunts for kiddos!

They do have park-wide WiFi, but with the number of campers, the server gets bogged down. We were able to stream Netflix early in the morning, and very late in the evening.

There were a lot of friendly campers here and it looked like quite a few full-timers live here.

The parking pads were large and level, but there wasn't much space around the site.

My only complaint - and is common with the more tourist area private-owned parks - is that you get jam-packed in these places. No room for the boys to throw a football, or to run and play tag. That's okay though, because we came for the beach. Just be ready to be up close and personal with your neighbors. My front door was about 15 feet away from the neighbors driver side slide-out.

We’ll managed and friendly campground

Spent about a month and a half here last year and will be spending about the same this year. Reservations are needed as this is a popular spot. The process can be easily done online or with a call. The people are friendly the camp is clean with all the amenities you need, what more could you want. My wife and I both highly recommend Island Retreat.

Gulf Shores Basecamp

A nice base camp to explore Gulf Shores that is located near one of the boat launches, the bike path, restaurants, and beaches. The sites are on concrete pads with Full Hookups but the waterlines are getting a bit brittle so be careful not to break it like we did (and both our neighbors had too) . The amenities include a clubhouse, a pool, and a dog run. The location was great, not as busy as some areas but the ferry traffic did back up one night due to an accident. Overall the park was well kept, with newly renovated bathhouses, and pretty quiet.  We really enjoyed being on the bike path and riding into town to mini-golf and shop the stores.

PROs: just out of the busy Gulf Shores area offering quiet when you are done with the beach crowd.  Staff was nice and helpful and the renovated bathhouse was great.  Sites were plenty big for us with level pads.  My kids loved jumping on our bikes to go mini-golf and explore the area a bit.  And they loved in the pool and playground.  We had ample space to relax when at camp.

CONs: all the spots are in the open, having some trees or vegetation would be nice for little sense of privacy but we had great neighbors we got to know (we were in the back corner right next to an apartment complex) .  Our area had a little more trash around then I would have expected (all small things and some stuff left in our fire ring - we were in the corner so maybe it all blows over there?  I ended up filling a grocery bag full of bottle caps, cigarette butts, etc). The bathhouse was half renovated so we did have to wait to shower during prime times, but it will be worth it when they are done.  Pool is not heated like some in the area are.  Cannot choose your site, but I believe you can request one if available at check in.

Nice and clean

Stayed for 3 night over Easter, very easy check in, I was actually contacted in the morning of our arrival to confirm that we are still coming. Check in was simple and fast. The sides are spacious enough and pretty level. 10 min to the beach and lots to do for kids.

Great area and a great park.

I appreciated the location, landscaping and clean/modern bathrooms/showers. Beach access wasn’t that far. I believe we payed a small parking fee for the beach. The area is busy with traffic and tourism once you get on the main highways. But nonetheless, a great atmosphere. Thanks Island Retreat!
