Best RV Parks & Resorts near Birmingham, AL

RV parks near Birmingham provide a mix of amenities and accessibility options. Birmingham South RV Park in Pelham features 99 sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, while Hoover Met Complex RV Park offers concrete pads with electric, water, and sewer connections just off Highway 150. Thousand Trails Hidden Cove, located approximately 45 miles northwest near Arley, provides lakeside RV sites with full hookups and boat access to Lewis Smith Lake. The newer Loop C section at Hidden Cove offers 50-amp service preferred by larger motorhomes, with gravel sites requiring minimal leveling. Many parks accommodate big rigs with pull-through sites, though availability varies seasonally. "This is about the only place in the Birmingham area to stay in an R.V. It is essentially a large parking lot with RV pull through spaces," noted one visitor about Hoover Met Complex.

Several Birmingham-area RV parks remain open year-round, with most offering standard amenities like sanitary dump stations and trash service. Cell coverage varies significantly by location, with reviews indicating spotty Verizon service at Hidden Cove while AT&T generally performs better throughout the region. Most parks welcome pets, though specific restrictions may apply. During high-demand periods, especially football weekends, advance reservations become essential at locations like Birmingham South and Hoover Met Complex. Sites at Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera provide reasonable spacing between motorhome pads despite the hilly terrain. One visitor described it as "exceeding expectations" with "quite a bit of space between most of the sites." Utility placement can be inconsistent across parks, with some reporting electrical hookups positioned far from water and sewer connections, requiring extended hoses and cords.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Corinth Recreation Area

    Perfectly Designed for RV Newbies!

Loved this park! It was our first trip in our new Travel Trailer and it couldn't have gone better. We stayed at Yellow Hammer site #9 easy pull through with plenty of room. Not only did all the sites have amazing scenery but the roads were well maintained. Full hookups and AT & T cellphone coverage good enough for working from Trailer. Verizon cellphone coverage didn't work here. Each site fully equipped with fire ring, picnic table, and lantern poles. Wood available for purchase from host.

Beach & Bath houses were closed due to COVID-19

We spent a lot of time walking with our kids on the trails and riding scooters around the campsite roads. Nature trails were extremely well kept with great views on the water

Best site is Yellow Hammer #17

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Clear Creek Cove RV Resort

Long term camping with a family atmosphere

Our lot is spacious, gravel pad with a cement patio.

Guide to Birmingham

RV camping near Birmingham, Alabama spans from urban facilities to tranquil lakeside settings within a 50-mile radius. The region sits at the southern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains with elevations ranging from 400 to 700 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, creating high humidity conditions that affect camping comfort from June through September.

What to do

Water activities at Lewis Smith Lake: Thousand Trails Hidden Cove in Arley offers direct lake access about 45 miles from Birmingham. "Great campground & people! Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of things to do. No fenced in dog park but plenty of space to have one. Right on the lake but unaware of any kind of rentals available nearby," notes Nick & Allyssa S.

Explore local attractions: GrandStand RV Park sits next to Talladega Speedway, making it ideal for race weekends. "This is a really great option super close to the racetrack. The facilities are really nice and the staff takes great care of the space. They even have a dog run to let your pets run around," explains Asher K.

Outdoor recreation options: The area offers varied terrain for different activities. "There is hiking about an hour away at the Bankhead National Forest. You can pick your spot when you arrive. I like that," writes Mara S. about Hidden Cove.

What campers like

Convenient overnight stops: Palomino RV Resort provides easy access for travelers passing through. "This is our usual spot to stay overnight on our way the the florida panhandle. Just 2/4 mile west of interstate 65 at exit 305. All sites are full service concrete pads with good Wi-Fi and lots of channels on the tv," reports Wendy T.

Spacing between sites: Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera offers more separation than typical urban parks. "Gravel site was fairly level despite being in a hilly area. There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites)," describes David S.

Full hookup convenience: Many Birmingham-area RV parks offer complete utilities. "Full 50 amp hookup. Clean site. Pet park, tennis & basketball courts, playground & 2 lakes," summarizes Beth R. about Palomino RV Resort.

What you should know

Limited amenities at urban sites: Some Birmingham RV parks focus on functionality over recreation. "This is a very nice place for an overnight stay. If your looking for amenities, this is not the place for you. Clean, nice management, easy in and out," notes Shilo B. about Sunset RV.

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds require effort to level RVs. "The pads are very uneven and there are just not many amenities. Very close to sports fields though," reports Chris S. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Connectivity limitations: Cell service varies significantly. "I had no reception with Verizon but my AT&T hotspot had good reception," mentions Mara S. about Hidden Cove, while Nathan W. advises, "Cell service is spotty so either have a mobile data setup or by the local connection for your stay."

Tips for camping with families

Recreational facilities: Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina offers water activities for families. "Great fishing!!!" says Karin L., while Tiana K. adds, "So close you don't even need to leave the RV park to see the frequent fireworks or the huge pelican gatherings."

Play areas for children: Several parks include playgrounds and sports facilities. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," mentions Chris G. about Hoover Met Complex.

Budget-friendly options: Look for parks with reasonable rates and family amenities. "Nice place. Quiet park with some highway noise. Didn't use any amenities. Don't think there's much. Cable. We would return with kayaks and enjoy the lake," suggests Kathy H. about Safe Harbor RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Maneuverability considerations: Birmingham South RV Park in Pelham offers convenient pull-through sites. "This was a pit stop for us and it worked just great for that. We had a 50amp pull through site. It was very level and we didn't even unhook from the truck!" explains Beth H.

Security features: Some parks offer enhanced security measures. "This was a very secure campground with a lot of amenities. No concrete pads but nice small sites," notes Chris S. about Birmingham South RV Park.

Utility placement awareness: Review hookup locations before selecting a site. "Very clean! Nice pool! Easy to get in and out of the park from highway. Good Wi-Fi. Nice office. Well organized," reports Debra R., highlighting the practical setup at Birmingham South.
