Best RV Parks & Resorts near Tuscaloosa, AL

Tuscaloosa offers several established RV parks with varying amenities and proximity to the interstate. Sunset RV in Cottondale provides full hookup sites on level blacktop and gravel surfaces for $29-45 per night, accommodating big rigs with pull-through access. Coaches Corner RV Park sits less than a mile from the University of Alabama campus with full hookup gravel sites. "This is a very nice place for an overnight stay. If you're looking for amenities, this is not the place for you. Clean, nice management, easy in and out," noted one camper about Sunset RV. Bama RV Station, located just off the interstate, features water and electric hookups with two available dump stations and dedicated dog park areas for $30 nightly, though sites lack picnic tables and fire rings.

Most RV parks in the area remain open year-round with varying levels of infrastructure. Noise levels differ significantly between parks, with interstate-adjacent locations like Sunset RV experiencing constant traffic sounds. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region. Hookup configurations vary, with 50-amp electrical service common at most established parks. Several locations impose restrictions on fires, with many parks offering trash service but limited on-site amenities like showers or laundry facilities. Between Sunset RV's two locations, amenities like showers and laundry are only available at the east location. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with most parks allowing dogs, though dedicated exercise areas are limited outside Bama RV Station's three dog parks.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

At the regular campground, there’s only 30amp connections. Some have sewer and some not. There is no camp wifi. Swimming is quit a distance from campground.

The campground at the stables are pull through and 50 amp and full hookups.

    Sunset RV

    Bright light and road noise

Stopped for an overnight on our way home to Atlanta from a trip out west. Not much of a park. Most sites are long term or semi permanent. Only 6 available for regular RV. Water, 30/50 amp electric & sewer There is a small laundry room The office wasn’t open but we had reservations and had received an email about our site and directions. WiFi was poor. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area. There is a small dog walking area.

Economic pricing options: Value-conscious RVers find Tuscaloosa area camping affordable compared to other university towns. Sunset RV offers reasonable rates with one camper sharing: "We had site 57, which was a level blacktop site that had sewer, water, cable and electricity. Dumpster located on site for trash. Loud traffic noise. But, with all that, it was 45.33 with tax."

What you should know

Site surfaces vary: Different campgrounds offer various pad materials. "Nice open sites and easy to access your site. Basically an RV park. All very big class A motor homes," observed one camper about Coaches Corner RV Park, while noting: "Full hookups on most sites so it's very doable for a couple of nights."

Another camper at Birmingham South RV Park stated: "Nice place, but the internet doesn't work, bathrooms clean."

Vehicle configuration: Overnight travelers appreciate pull-through convenience. "We had a pull through spot so we didn't have to disconnect our tow dolly," shared a camper at Rolling Hills RV Park.
