West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River, just north of West Point, Georgia. The lake has a shoreline of more than 500 miles. Surrounded by forests and fields on the Alabama-Georgia state line, West Point Lake provides excellent fishing, camping, and other recreational opportunities. The Amity Campground offers 96 sites, 93 with electric and water hookups. Additional amenities include a dump station, laundry facilities, hot showers, a boat ramp, basketball and tennis court, a playground, and trails. Open spring through fall from Thursday through Sunday, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Campground gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out is at 3 p.m. There is a 14-day maximum stay.

## Recreation

Whether sailing or power boating, West Point Lake is a boater's paradise. There are boat ramps in 34 public recreation areas around the lake, including Amity, as well as two privately owned full-service marinas. Fishing is one of the most popular activities on the lake. A dozen creeks and more than 40 square miles of lake provide plenty of good fishing spots for the thousands of anglers who fish here regularly. The lake abounds with bass, catfish, crappie and bream. Bank fishing is excellent at many locations, including public fishing piers at Hardley Creek, Rocky Point and McGee Bridge parks. Several trails wind along the lake and through the landscape, including the Lakeside Trail, which is perfect for mountain biking. A wildlife management area of nearly 10,000 acres, located at the upper end of the lake, provides habitat for many types of wildlife. This area offers excellent hunting opportunities.

Holiday Campground is a large facility with 112 campsites and two group camping areas, including electric, non-electric, tent-only and group sites. Basketball and tennis courts and a playground provide additional recreation opportunities for guests.

Surrounded by rolling fields and deep forests that display outstanding fall foliage, West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line. The campground is located on a forested peninsula and overlooks the 25,900-acre lake. 

## Nearby Attractions

The lake offers 21 day-use parks. While many people visit the lake to boat and camp, the parks offer a variety of other recreation facilities including tennis courts, ball fields, basketball courts, fishing piers with fish attractors, hiking trails and picnic shelters for individuals or large groups.

Chewacla State Park

At 9,049 acres, Georgia's largest state park is a hiker's and backpacker's haven. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southeast of Atlanta. Above King's Gap is Dowdell's Knob where President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to the overlook.

Several park amenities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool fed by cool springs. A wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, and privately operated stables offer guided horseback rides. In 1921, FDR came to this part of Georgia to swim in naturally warm springs that offered relief from polio. Today, nearby Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site invites visitors to see his modest home, a museum and the pools that first drew him here.

R. Shaefer Heard Campground is a wooded lake-view site near West Point Dam. This pet-friendly campground provides 117 campsites for tents and RVs with water and electric hookups, and includes handicap sites, single and double sites, waterfront sites, and paved back-in and pull-through drives from 25 to 107 feet. Each site permits up to eight campers and four vehicles. The campground is located within R. Shaefer Heard Park, which includes additional amenities, such as a tennis court, multi-use ball field, hiking and mountain biking trails, boat ramps, docks, pavilions, playgrounds, amphitheater, and visitor center.

Holiday Campground is a 319-acre wooded lake-view peninsula offering 163 sites for tents and RVs. This pet-friendly campground provides shaded and full-sun waterfront lots, electric and water hookups, primitive lots, group camping for up to 80 persons, single and double sites, and paved back-in and pull-through drives from 25 to 78 feet. 21 acres of raw untouched primitive camping land next to beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama. Campsites are far apart from each other so you can enjoy your privacy.

The property is completely untouched for a true nature experience. If you're looking for a place with modern life amenities this campground is definitely not for you. Each campsite is 1 acre apart so you have a lot of privacy. Bring your binoculars or telescopes to enjoy a beautiful stargazing experience.

Campers are required to park and walk to their campsites so there's no cars inside the reserve. Everything you bring in, you are required to take with you.

A 55 gallon tank of fresh water is provided to each site for your convenience. There is no electricity so bring your flashlights and solar power banks if you need to power your devices.

We are only 3 minutes to the Pace's Point Boat Ramp in case you bring your canoe, kayak or just want to go for a swim.

There's a porta potty on site for your convenience.
