Salthouse branch va

This is a quite place way back in the mountains of Southern Virginia. The roads going into the campground is very narrow and steep up and downs. My breaks were gone by the time I got to the entrance. Mostly boaters go here to camp and mostly locals. The site has water, 50,30,and 110 hookups. No…

Great campground; need to update map.

This was a great campground.  We were tent camping, so the humidity was a bit rough the first week of June.  The camp sites were very well maintained and the bathrooms were clean, although lacking some hot water for showers.  The camp site map can be a bit confusing as the colors don't always…

No alcohol allowed !!

The police visited us bc we were drinking outside of our camper. He was very nice and explained no alcohol allowed. This is clearly stated and we were in the wrong. Spaces are not private but the lake is beautiful. I can see where some people would love this campground. We canoed and that was fun.

Beautiful campground on a pretty lake

Big campground on a lake. Campsites are mostly level, are various sizes and offer various amounts of screening between sites. Look at the photos.
Of all of the campgrounds in the area, this one wasn’t fully booked. I assume it’s because most of the sites are fairly primitive in that they…

Beautiful park in a beautiful setting

Lots to do here, great trails for hiking. The campground was nice, some spots were more level than others and there wasn’t much screening between sites, but in all the setting was beautiful and the park was worth the visit. The bathhouse was clean . The hot water in the shower wasn’t that hot,…

IDA (IDSP) The Stars Come Out at Night

My gkids and I stayed here one night because they wanted to earn a winter camping badge and it was so worth it! We were there on a beautiful chilly clear night and the sky and stars were amazing! If you love stargazing this is the park for you. It is an International Dark Sky Park. There is a…

It’s ok, nothing fancy

Nice swim area, nice roads but the sites could use some updating. A lot of them are sloped. Very hard to level out a RV. Playground could use updating and maybe a fence around since it’s so close to the road. Bathrooms need updating.

Lots to do!

We stayed in Cabin #3 and it was perfect. It’s a 3BR/2BA spacious cabin, wooded and lakeside. Great sunsets and nice big deck (some areas of the porch are covered, and have rocking chairs). Kitchen is equipped with microwave, toaster, coffee pot, water glasses, coffee mugs, plates, bowls, utensils,…

Starry skies!

We got a non-electric site and in November is was in the 30's at night - pretty cold for tent camping! But we bundled up and made lots of fires! Fire wood is available at the visitors center for a fee. The campsites come with a fire ring, picnic table, room for two cars. We have a pretty large tent…

  • Parking for two cars
  • Smaller campsite, but will fit two larger tents
  • Hiking trail adjacent to the campground - beautiful sunset!

Great place for families

Our family has camped here multiple times.  Great place to stay due to clean facilities and well kept sites. The lake is perfect for little ones and even grownup kids. Also love the trails that surround the campground.  Would definitely recommend for a camping trip.

Kid Friendly Campground

We camped here in late June 2020. We had a W/E back in site. We had site 45. The sites are a little closer than we like, so this will not be a campground we return to.

There were lots of kids and lots of kid activities. The park is lightly shaded and the WiFi does not reach most camping areas.

  • You can see from gravel drives how close the sites are. Lake in background.

  • Meeting house and event area in the center of park

Close to the City and on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Our family loved this campground! It is close to Roanoke and it is off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is located in Explore Park. This park is growing by leaps and bounds. It has mountain bike trails, a cool vintage village, access to the Roanoke River, an aerial obstacle course, and more cool…

Pleasant Stopover

We stayed at Leesville Lake Campground on our way to and from a visit to Washington, DC. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We stayed at the level sites across the street: easy-in, easy-out. Some of the sites on the other side of the street looked like they might be a challenge to get…
