No alcohol allowed !!

The police visited us bc we were drinking outside of our camper. He was very nice and explained no alcohol allowed. This is clearly stated and we were in the wrong. Spaces are not private but the lake is beautiful. I can see where some people would love this campground. We canoed and that was fun.

Beautiful park in a beautiful setting

Lots to do here, great trails for hiking. The campground was nice, some spots were more level than others and there wasn’t much screening between sites, but in all the setting was beautiful and the park was worth the visit. The bathhouse was clean . The hot water in the shower wasn’t that hot,…

Good spot for a stopover

This campground is good for a one night stopover and we would return to it for that purpose. Clean, convenient sites off highway 81. Not much privacy between sites because they’re quite close together but there are trees. Sites 11 and 12 have more privacy space.

Great place for families

Our family has camped here multiple times.  Great place to stay due to clean facilities and well kept sites. The lake is perfect for little ones and even grownup kids. Also love the trails that surround the campground.  Would definitely recommend for a camping trip.

Small but nice

Did some Jeep camping here in November. Nice bathroom facilities and showers. Very clean. Hiking trails all accessible from the camp areas. My spot had electric and water hook ups.

Close to the City and on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Our family loved this campground! It is close to Roanoke and it is off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is located in Explore Park. This park is growing by leaps and bounds. It has mountain bike trails, a cool vintage village, access to the Roanoke River, an aerial obstacle course, and more cool…

Great Adventure in SW Virginia

This weekend was a great adventure in SW Virginia. We stayed in a Yurt. It has no electricity or water but the bath house was close. The yurt has a double bed, a twin trundle, a couch and some chairs, and a table and chairs. It also has a large wrap around deck with rocking chairs. A picnic…

Great place!!

Great spot for tent camping! Loved the hillside spots bc of all the trees and the multiple levels that the spots are on. They are all built out and flat. Bathrooms are clean and campground was quiet. I had issues finding out if pets were allowed... they are! My dog and I had an awesome time and we…

Close quarters

While overall our stay here was okay, we were not in love with this campground. The mosquitos were really bad despite using tons of bug spray and candles. There was no privacy at all. The campground was noisy at night, lots of parties going on. Our next door neighbors snored extremely loudly all…

Great camping at the Lake!

We had a wonderful time camping at Smith Mountain Lake State Park! We stayed at the end of March and it was definitely spring weather. Warmish during the day and very cool at night. Staying here in the late winter/early spring, the campground is not as crowded as it would be in summer!

We stayed…

Great for place for anyone

Amazing area, absolutely beautiful scenery and tons of wildlife. Fishing and swimming in the lake, in the fall, the water is 70 degrees in September.

Quiet, Not Crowded, Lovely

We truly enjoyed our stay at Smith Mountain Lake State Park.

The rangers were helpful and friendly. They checked us in, provided an overview of the park and directions/instructions to/for everything.

The campsites were cozy and far enough apart that neighboring sites didn't intrude on our…

Very Loud

On the first night of our cross-country road trip we were looking for a quiet place to stay. The site to one side of us was blasting music and having a party until 2am and the staff didn’t seem to enforce the quiet hours policy with them. On the other side of us, there was a couple arguing and…
