## Overview

Located at Hartwell Lake, one of the southeasts largest and most popular public recreation areas, Poplar Springs is a summer day-use area that offers an ideal setting for a party, barbecue or simply a day of water activities with the family.   
  
Poplar Springs is located on the Georgia side of Hartwell Lake and boasts sweeping views of the nearly 56,000 acres of water that comprise Hartwell Lake. 

#### Natural Features:

Hartwell Lake is a man-made lake bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers. The dam and lake areas boast nine campgrounds and 15 day-use facilities that are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers.   
  
Surrounding vegetation allows for plenty of shade, and the 962 miles of shoreline provide numerous swimming beaches, picnic areas and boat ramps. 

#### Recreation:

Boating and water sports top the list of popular activities. A boat ramp is available year-round for visitors convenience.   
  
Bass fishing is particularly popular at Hartwell Lake, with 15-30 lb. Striped bass considered a routine catch and plenty of tournaments taking place throughout the year. 

#### Facilities:

Poplar Springs offers multiple picnic areas, complete with shelters, flush toilets and playgrounds. Parking is available on-site.

#### Nearby Attractions:

Nearby Tugaloo State Park offers swimming, boating and hiking, including the Crow Tree and Muscadine trails, which showcase beautiful blooms on oak, walnut, mulberry and cherry trees during the spring and summer months.

Parson’s Mountain Recreation Area is located in the northern portion of the Long Cane Ranger District. It features a 28-acre man-made lake next to a 23-site campground. The area offers relaxation and solitude as well as easy access to a variety of recreation activities. Highlights include an accessible picnic area. The day use area was designed with an earthen pier, a pedestrian bridge and a boat ramp for non-motorized boats.
