The campground is convenient to a variety of cultural and natural attractions, including art and music venues, shopping and dining in Asheville, scenic driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, numerous hiking trails and lakeside recreation. Recreation Visitors have a number of different activities to choose from. Kids love the lake's sandy swimming beach and anglers enjoy the calm waters for trout fishing. The French Broad River, popular for fishing, is also nearby. Lake Powhatan also offers visitors boat rentals during the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) to paddle around the lake. Note that use of personal watercraft is STRICTLY PROHIBITED due to potential introduction of foreign material to the Lake Powhatan riprarian ecosystem. The forest is known for its hiking and mountain biking trails, several of which are located near the campground. Visitors wishing to learn more about the area can attend interpretive programs during the summer. Facilities The shaded, private campsites are organized into four loops, all within walking distance of the lake. We are a small family owned and operated campground featuring two very large and private campsites on just over an acre of land. We are located right outside of Cherokee, NC and a short 10 minute drive to Bryson City, Sylva, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the North Carolina entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Site# 1 is our Creekside Campsite. It's a walk-in Tents only site which has a 16'x16' tent pad, a picnic table, fire ring and a brand new park style charcoal grill. The Creekside area is only about 75 feet from where you'll park your car and the shared portable toilet. This site gets lots of Sun in the front part of the meadow and lots of shade from very mature maple and black walnut trees towards the back end where the tent pad is located. 

Site# 2 is our Hilltop Campsite. It is considered a Dry Camping/ No Hookups site. This site has a large flat grassy area with trees all around the perimeter providing some shade at different times of the day. It also has a picnic table, a brick fire pit and a brand new park style charcoal grill. The Hilltop site is available for tent campers as well as those traveling with smaller sized RVs. Perfect for camper vans, truck campers, smaller sized Class B and C's as well as travel trailers up to 20' in length.

\*\* We can not accommodate any large class A or 5th wheels due to the steepness and curvature of the road. Four wheel drive or AWD is recommended to reach the hilltop site. Two wheel drive vehicles can make it just fine when the ground is dry however the Great Smoky Mountains area is considered a temperate rain forest and it can snow in early Spring and Winter. 

To reach Site#2 cross the bridge over the creek and follow the road until you get to the top of the hill. When you've reached the level lot this is your camping area. You will have plenty of room to turn your rig around without having to back up. For this reason we have it listed as a pull through site. 

AGAIN No class A or 5th wheels are allowed. 

Directly across the highway from our property is a Dollar General and a Beer and Wine store. There is also a gas station close by on the same side of the highway that you could walk to. Behind the property is several acres of natural forest and on the other side beyond the trees is pasture land.

\*Please note, Our property is easily and conveniently accessed directly from US Highway 441 which is the main road to and from Cherokee and the National Park. The sounds of cars can be heard passing by at times. Please check out our reviews and photos here on this listing, on Google and on Instagram as most people are not bothered by it.

Gateway to the Smokies 

## Overview

Wash Creek Horse Camp is a small group area designed for equestrian use located two miles northeast of the North Mills River Recreation Area and Bent Creek of the Pisgah Ranger District.

## Recreation

As part of the Pisgah National Forest, a network of equestrian trails are available in the North Mills River, Trace Ridge and Wash Creek areas and are easily accessible with space for several horse trailers. Hiking, fishing and hunting are popular activities in the area. Some of these trails are shared by mountain bikers. Routes are marked with signs and colored blazes.

## Facilities

The campground has one site and a vault toilet and hitching posts for horses. This small group facility can accommodate 30 people and 10 vehicles.

## Natural Features

Wash Creek offers a remote hardwood forest setting with a small, shallow stream nearby.

Pisgah National Forest Wash Creek Horse Camp

## Overview

Cove Creek Upper Group Camp is one of two group campsites nestled along Cove Creek in the lush forests of the Appalachian Mountains. The facility can accommodate large groups of up to 60 people and offers year-round opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, fishing and picnicking in one of the most scenic areas in the state.

## Recreation

Campers can easily relax with a book or deck of cards in the shaded camping area, or seek out activities close by. The area is a hub for numerous hiking, backpacking and mountain biking trails, some of which can be accessed from the campground. Hikers can follow a trail along the creek that leads to a scenic waterfall. Great trout fishing is also available in the creek and river.   
  
For visitors wishing to learn more about the area, interpretive programs may be available upon request.

## Facilities

The Upper Group Camp site can accommodate up to 60 people at a time. The facility is shaded with plenty of room for tents and RVs. It is equipped with picnic tables, vault toilets, grills, campfire rings and drinking water.

## Natural Features

The campground lies in Pisgah National Forest. The surrounding land boasts mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls and slopes thickly forested with hardwoods. The group camping area is adjacent to both Cove Creek and the beautiful Davidson River. Visitors should note that two creek crossings are required on the road leading to the upper group camp. Heavy rains may temporarily make crossing impossible; a four-wheel drive or high clearance vehicle is highly recommended and all crossings are attempted at users own risk.

Pisgah National Forest Cove Creek Group Campground

## Overview

North Mills River Campground is a rustic mountain getaway in Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. Located just outside the popular city of Asheville, the campground provides access to a variety of cultural and natural attractions, including an arboretum, the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and numerous hiking, fishing and mountain biking opportunities.

## Recreation

The forest is known for its hiking and mountain biking trails, several of which are near the campground. Mills River offers excellent trout fishing, as well as tubing and swimming, which are kid-friendly favorite activities. Visitors wishing to learn more about the area can attend educational programs during the summer.

## Facilities

This is a relatively small facility with campsites organized into two loops on opposite sides of the river. Sites are mostly shaded and lie within a short distance of the water.   
  
The facility provides picnic tables, tent pads, lantern posts and campfire rings with grills, in addition to restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. Campers can purchase firewood and fire starter on-site.

The campground is situated in the Appalachian Mountains at an elevation of 2,200 feet. The surrounding land boasts mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls and slopes densely forested with hardwoods. The group camping area is adjacent to the beautiful, shallow waters of the Mills River.

Several natural and cultural attractions are within close proximity to the campground. Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls and the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway are among the most popular sites. The small town of Brevard offers various amenities and services, and visitors can take a trip to Asheville to visit art galleries, music venues, shops and restaurants.

North Mills River

## Overview

Cataloochee campground is located in the historic Cataloochee Valley--a relatively remote part of Smoky Mountain National Park. The secluded setting offers visitors the ability to enjoy a multitude of recreational activities like hiking and fishing, without the crowds, which are sometimes common in other parts of the park.

## Recreation

The Cataloochee Valley features an extensive trail system that is less heavily used compared to other areas of the park. The two main trails, Caldwell Fork and nearby Rough Fork Trail, run mostly parallel to one another in the central portion of the valley. Either of these trails extend alongside scenic creeks and streams and support both hikers and horeseback riders.   
  
For hikers only, the 3.9-mile Boogerman Trail forms a nice loop off the Caldwell Fork Trail and is less than a mile walk from the campground.   
  
Anglers will agree that some of the best Rainbow and Brook trout fishing in the area can be found in the Cataloochee Basin, one of the most remote sections of the park. Fly fishing is particularly good during spring months when aquatic insects hatch in large numbers.   
  
The park also holds one of the best collections of log buildings in the eastern United States. Over 90 historic structures, including houses, barns, outbuildings, churches, schools and grist mills, have been preserved or rehabilitated in the park. A handful of which can be found in the Cataloochee Valley, including the nearby Palmer House, built in 1869, which contains a self-guided museum.

## Facilities

Cataloochee offers a traditional outdoor camping experience with the added convenience of flush toilets and drinking water. There are no hookups or showers at the campground.  
  
Hiking trails and fishing streams are easily accessible from the site and the nearby Cataloochee Group Camp can accommodate larger parties of guests.   
  
Additionally, the Cataloochee Horse Camp provides convenient camping for horseback riding enthusiasts.

## Natural Features

Cataloochee Campground is surrounded by picturesque mountain ranges and pristine mountain streams, like nearby Cataloochee Creek. Elk are common in this part of the park, during the spring and fall.   
  
At a 2,600 foot elevation, Cataloochee provides a moderate climate, characterized by mild winters and hot, humid summers. Whether blanketed in bright spring wildflowers or exploding with vivid fall colors, the scenery at Cataloochee never disappoints.

A number of the park's famous historical buildings, including the Steve Woody and Caldwell Houses, both built in the late 19th-century, are nearby the campground.  
  
The Steve Woody House, built in 1880, is located along the Rough Fork trail, an easy 2-mile roundtrip hike from the parking lot at the end of Ranger Station Road.

Small private custom designed campground off Hwy 28N, and Rose Creek Rd.  Something for all types of campers.  Single sites for solo or couple camping/hikers, with larger sites for families or shared group with 2 or more tents.  

Gravel pads for RV's (up to 37 - 38 feet, pop-up, trailers, campers.  Each with electric box for 30 or 50 amps, water hook-up.  Can park one vehicle each pad, shared designated area for  parking overflow or tent camping.  

We have one Vintage Airstream Camper set up for those who want to camp but also just get up and go. Camper has tub/shower, toilet, fridge, sink, microwave, small led tv - very comfy. One look is all it takes to be hooked. Camper has own firepit, picnic table, pond full of yellow trout out your door! 

Cold clear water runs down thru grounds from several spring heads.  Few extra holes for wading and fish.  Owner has planted rows n rows of veggies thru out. 

For the primitive campers, hike along the creek or up mountain for beautiful, more private, close to nature itself to choose from.  No power or runnning water but access to water hose, firepit at each site. Outhouse is in a general area to be shared.  

The Little Tennessee River flows in front of grounds.  Fish, swim, canoe or paddle.  Just have fun, relax, and be happy.  Happy Camping!
