Long Hungry Road Dispersed Campsites

The campground was easy to find & it’s just close enough to town if you need to make a store run. There is lush forest with incredible views. plus, our site has lake access. The wildlife life is thriving and we could hear barred owls hooting at dusk. Perfect area for fishing. We are happy to have found this little gem!

This campsite is a great little spot just across the road from the water—peaceful, scenic, and well-situated. I was lucky to grab the last open site, and it turned out to be a perfect place to unwind. The only downside was the amount of trash left behind by previous visitors; I nearly filled a bag cleaning up. A gentle reminder to future campers: please do better and respect this beautiful space. Despite that, it’s truly a gem, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Showed up around 2:30-3 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon and most of the spots were already called for. Seems you gotta get there early if you want easy water access. Spots are mainly flat for tent camping. Some are able to get a camper as there were a couple spots that looked like full time camper people. I pulled into the first spot after driving all the way to the end, camping in my RoofNest. Was a beautiful place. Serine and quiet. Will be back for sure.

8 or so beautiful sites, many with direct lake views/access. We showed up late and got the furthest site on the road. Important to note that many of the sites do not allow drive in. We camped in a RTT on the pulloff across from the site, saw a few other vans doing the same. Good fishing.

The sign at the road looks like it was either taken down or blew away. The pin drop doesn’t take you to the turn in on google pr Apple Maps. If you’re coming from Robbinsville it’s on your right after the pin about 1/4 mile. Then at the fork in the gravel road take a right. But all in all it’s a great place. I stayed at 7 in a van. It had level parking and I could walk down to the bank to fish and have a fire.

This was such a nice quiet campground. We arrived around 8am and got the first campsite we saw. This is the most established dispersed campsite that I’ve stayed at as it has a fire circle, a grill and a picnic table. It’s very quiet and very few cars passed. There’s a walking/hiking trail across the lake where we saw some hikers and some people on horseback. The site was very clean minus a few pieces of trash that we later picked up. The dogs loved it because our site was right on the lake. We drove down the gravel road to check out the other campsites and they all seem great if you’re tent camping! We car camped and our campsite was perfect because it had a parking space right in front of it whereas the other sites had parking spaces across the road. Overall a great place. I can’t wait to go back!

First site(L1)was open so I took it. I spent two nights there. First time dispersed camping in National Forest and truck camping. Even though I've been camping my whole life, all my equipment was new so it was a learning experience. 😁 Parking was pretty level, but behind my rear wheels it declined toward the lake. The tent pad, picnic table and fire ring was on level ground. It was really quiet during the day, but there were some very loud frogs(?) during the night, enough to wake you up. 2nd night I played music and I slept good. Lol If your GPS says that you have reached your destination, you probably have passed the gravel road. Once on gravel road, veer to the right and you will pass the cemetery on your left, then you'll see kiosk. Sign shows you have to register there at the kiosk. I enjoyed my time there and hopefully can go back again this year. Hope y'all are enjoying the great outdoors. LIV'N!

This is a good camping ground especially if you get the one right off the lake. When we arrived the campground was closed for vehicles. So we walk in a took around. Great spots right of the lake. They say it won't open till April. There is a another campsite less than 4 miles up the road you can camp at, but over all good area. Any vehicle can get to location its bumpy bit that's bc its half gravel half dirt. Keeeepp exploring the wilderness must be explored. Ps. Clean up after yourself

The only downside to this campground is that for half of the sites the parking is across the small access road. This would be most ideal for tent camping.

Had a great time here. Easy to miss but right off the main road. Google Maps shows it just before the actual location (turn at the cemetery sign, and go past the cemetery). Spaced far apart but doesn't feel like you are completely isolated. Will be coming back for sure.

Very beautiful place but slim pickings on the open spots. We found site 2 empty the only site not on the lake. Seems like people setup tents to hold sites and don’t return for days it was the week before Labor Day so maybe I’ll have better luck next time

There are 9 sites that are spread very far apart from one another. We stayed at site 6, and it was about 1.5 miles into the grounds. Our site was equipped with a nice fire ring and picnic table, as well as hard gravel tent pad. There was water access directly from the site into a cove,as well as a short path that brings you to a much nicer shore. Couldn’t hear anyone and only a few passerbys

cell service was kinda cruddy even with a booster.

On a road trip from WV to GA I was so happy to have this free, quiet campsite right on the water! Great option for anyone that wants to paddle around. I opted for site #5, gave good views, and all the sounds of nature into the evening. Picnic bench, fire ring, and flat tent pad are all you get, and all you need. I felt safe as a solo traveler, other sites are a good distance apart. The written driving directions from other reviews are helpful, it's a dirt road, but not too rough. Would recommend!

Wow! Amazing primitive campsites! Each has a picnic table, fire pit/grill, and level area for 1-2 tents (a few can accommodate more if you’re ambitious), and lake views (most have lake access if you want to put in a kayak or canoe). Sites are so spread out it feels like you’re the only one on the lake! Most parking next to campsites could fit camper van or tiny trailer and at the end of the road there is a turn around space if needed; however every site has steps down to the level area (L9 has the longest straight down hill to the lake), so you won’t be parking right next to the site if that is a problem...it wasn’t for me). Just drive carefully( lots of big potholes and blind curves)! Overall, a beautiful area to set up camp (up to 14 days)! I didn’t want to leave.

There are 9 sites here down a decent gravel road. You have to drive past the cemetery and you’ll see the sign. A few of the spots are really basic and had some trash left :( I tent camped at spot 9 and it was fantastic. Lots of firewood and enough space for 4 or 5 tents. Site 9 had a little trail down to the lake, 2 fire pits and a picnic table. Very secluded from everything and a great view of the water. Would definitely stay here again

Found this gem while I was traveling back to TX from the NC coast.  There are nine lakeside campsites along a smooth gravel road off of NC-143.  Each of the campsites have fire rings and some had picnic tables.
