Cobble Hill RV Campground (Formerly) Carolina Rose

    good stop & stay

campground being remodeled so bathhouses were a little walk away but not too inconvenient. pool was also closed for now BUT overall cute location. did park on site 59 (pull through) but was SUPER unlevel. cute pond and amphitheater too! has laundry as well.

coolest part about this spot is that it’s about a 10 min drive into Catawba college town which was a super nice area for us being younger. perfect mix of Boulder & Philly :)

hosts were SUPER friendly and nice :)

    Arrowhead Campground

    Perfect spot

Nicely spaced, shaded, and quiet camp ground. A lot of people camp here with their jeeps, sidexsides, and 4wheelers. The bathrooms and showers aren’t fancy but are clean. There’s a boat ramp right by the entrance. Overall an awesome camp ground!

    Cane Creek Park

Always a great time when we go

We have been here 3 times all for a week at a time and love it. Holidays usually have some activities for kids. The mini golf is free and a blast. The swim area is only open on Saturdays or you can drive to the day use side and be over there.

    Dan Nicholas Park

We will be back for sure

Site next to one of the lake access trails. Spacious site. We were able to get our 37 ft camper level. Shaded so the a/c s were able to keep up with the heat no issue.

    Coble's Landing

    DO NOT STAY HERE

WARNING DO NOT STAY HERE!!! REX COBLE is part owner of this campground. My father’s camper was broken into and vandalized by the owner REX. Stayed for 3 months and never received a receipt for cash handed over. Always gave us the go around and said he was out of town on business. So we started using cash app to prove payments. We even paid 6 months advanced for storage. Investigation still in process and having to get the law involved again. Biggest crook and con of Anson County. Drug deals happening right in the Rv Park in front of family’s and children durning the day and all times at night. This place needs to be investigated, raided and shut down! Our whole life was taken from us. Photos, jewelry, guns, clothing, TVs, and etc. I highly suggest you do not stay here or trust your belongings being stored.

Guide to Charlotte

Camping options around Charlotte provide varying levels of access to Lake Wylie and other waterways. The region's relatively flat terrain ranges from 700-800 feet in elevation, with mild winters allowing for year-round camping at most sites. Weeknight reservations tend to be easier to secure than weekend spots, especially during spring and fall when temperatures average between 60-75°F.

What to do

Explore extensive trail systems: McDowell Nature Preserve offers multiple hiking paths directly from the campground. "So awesome to have hiking trails that lead right out of the campground," notes Kathy L., who appreciated the wooded setting despite some challenges with RV leveling at McDowell Nature Preserve.

Visit nearby historical sites: Kings Mountain State Park provides access to significant Revolutionary War landmarks. Don H. recommends planning visits strategically: "Tons to do, including hikes and history. Make sure to go across the street to the Kings Mountain Military site. Better yet, plan your stay when they are doing an event."

Take advantage of free recreation amenities: Some parks offer complimentary activities beyond hiking. At Cane Creek Park, campers get access to "Free putt-putt. Clean bathrooms and hot showers," according to David E., while Emily B. adds that "Trails, shelter areas, and bathrooms are always well taken care of."

What campers like

Waterfront access: Multiple campgrounds provide direct lake access for various activities. Nora C. appreciates that McDowell Nature Preserve has "nice areas around Lake Wylie. Clean facilities and secured gate with easy access after hours for paid campers."

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Bathroom quality matters to many campers in the region. Ryan B. found McDowell Nature Preserve exceeded expectations with "CLEAN RESTROOMS and showers with hot water, power even at the Tent sites, super nice staff, and priced right. Also, the camp was patrolled regularly by the police and I felt very safe."

Family-friendly amenities: Campgrounds with dedicated children's areas receive positive feedback. Aimee B. notes that Charlotte Motor Speedway Camping World has "a playground for the kids and it was so nice. They have a sand volleyball court there too. Dog park in the far back corner."

What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Many campgrounds have leveling issues or terrain challenges. At Kings Mountain State Park, Karen S. observed: "The campsites themselves are very unlevel and laid out very awkwardly. The electric and water are in odd spots on each site."

Seasonal closures affect amenities: Swimming areas and water activities follow seasonal schedules. Jeanette M. mentions that at Cane Creek Park, "Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals."

Airport proximity creates noise: Several campgrounds experience overhead flight patterns. Barry S. notes that Fieldridge Acres "is near the Charlotte airport, so there is noise from planes taking off and landing between 6 AM and 10 PM. Easy in and out."

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated kid-friendly spaces: Some campgrounds have specialized areas for children. Sarah W. recommends Kings Mountain State Park as "Great campground with clean facilities and lots of amenities. Convenient country store at the park office."

Consider campgrounds with organized activities: Holiday weekends often feature special programming. Sarah B. shares that at Cane Creek Park, "Holidays usually have some activities for kids. The mini golf is free and a blast."

Select parks with diverse recreation options: Multi-activity parks keep children engaged. Julie P. notes that "Campground has trails and fishing in walking distance. It is always packed. No alcohol permitted" at Cane Creek Park.

Tips from RVers

Check site dimensions before booking: RV sites vary greatly in size and levelness. Bob F. found Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort workable: "RV spaces are a nice size with plenty of grass. Some airplane noise from planes using CLT, but wasn't bothersome."

Prepare for surface variations: Many RV sites have specific parking requirements. According to Aimee B., Charlotte Motor Speedway Camping World is "All gravel. Grassy areas around for pets. Some sites have a grass backyard area. Fences & picnic tables separate the sites."

Investigate off-season value: Some campgrounds offer expanded site options during slower periods. Aimee B. also mentions that at Charlotte Motor Speedway Camping World, "Off season, they turn two sites into one so you get 100' to yourself."
