Everything about our stay has been amazing. The staff are super friendly and helpful. While we went as a couple, there are activities for kids. Bathrooms are clean and there is a laundry. Our site was not necessarily private, but it was nice. We had enough space.

Excellent family friendly campground

What a great campground. First off, it has some of the best campsites - wooded and with some level of privacy - that I’ve experienced in awhile. Kids loved the playground and there were a lot of other kids to make friends with. Also we enjoyed Cascades Trail on site. Just a very peaceful and well maintained campground!

Cons - first, the bathrooms. For how many sites there are, there just aren’t enough. The bathroom in our loop D was full always, which is hard when camping. And it’ll be cleaned at very inconvenient times, like 8-9:00am. Second, the lake. I had the feeling it was a large lake to swim and kayak in. It’s more of a glorified pond and we had no interest in swimming in it. Bummer bc we brought a lot of water stuff. Just good to know for next time!

Go to Altapass Orchard down the road. Best apple pie ever. Linville winery is also a great stop.

We always enjoy our stay

This is definitely a family friendly resort with lots to do but is also a great stay for empty nesters like me and my spouse. There are great well marked trails, several quiet sites, and great access to the blue ridge parkway. We have stayed at this campground several times and never have a complaint.

Decent Campground

We stayed at Bear Den Halloween weekend 2021. It was COLD and RAINY! Campground was nice. We did get some decent pictures at the start of the weekend before the rain moved in. We didn’t get to enjoy the amenities due to the rain. It is located very close to the parkway and you can see magnificent views. We also enjoyed the apple orchard that is near by. The staff was nice. They do have golf cart rentals. I would go back.

First time camping

I LOVED bear den campgrounds, everyone was so nice and accommodating! We knew it was gonna rain but the last night we stayed it was gonna be none stop rain so we upgraded to a cabin and they were so kind!!! The waterfall was breathtaking and the hikes were hard which made me excited that it wasn’t a tiny trail but an actual hike!!! Would love to stay again! Bath house was perfect. Campsite store has things if you forget anything and I really hope I can’t find a sticker online cause I forgot to buy one!!! ❤️❤️❤️ would completely recommend a tent site or the cozy cabin both amazing!!

Nice lake for fishing and other recreational areas. The store inside the campground has everything you need. Wifi is not bad and 4G signal is equally good. I had AT&T signal to text and make calls. Spacious Family Campground

Plenty of room at every site. Arrived on a Sunday for a week long stay. Mid-week has been very quiet. Plenty to do, but not a commercial campground. Bank fishing in a small pond/lake. Lake beach area is nice. Game room was fun, but we felt pricey in this area ($1 for most games). Rec room has lots of room with ping pong and cornhole. Bring your own balls for ping pong or purchase at store for $0.50. We’ve hiked a couple trails. Easy to strenuous, but doable. Beautiful waterfall area off of Bear Paw trail. Wifi is ok for checking email and lite internet searching. We mainly used it for streaming music. We rented a golf cart for the week. This helps with the distances between activities and the incline of the mountain. This is a solid campground and we do recommend it.

Love this place!

Stayed here for the first time in May and loved it so much we reserved another trip for July on the way home! This is the only place we’ve ever camped and it met all my expectations. If you are looking for touristy place with putt putt, water parks, and pools this isn’t the place for you. If you want to RELAX and get away from everyday hustle and bustle and spend your days hiking and hanging out around the camp fire in the woods this is the place for you! Took my grandsons ages 9 & 12 and they love it here. We camp in a tent, but I reserve an RV site for the additional space. Linville Falls is 10 mikes away and we drove to Bakersville one day and went tubing. I plan to go back in September. Just an FYI- section A has NO WiFi, section B spotty WiFi. If you want good WiFi connection I would stay in section C.

A little slice of heaven on the parkway

Spacious sites and large trees make this a stand out for our group. Several loops in this midsized campground. Highlights were fishing in the pond, biking through the campground and relaxing by the campfire. There is an arcade/game room by the camp store however at a $1/game for most games the fun was quickly ended. Stayed here twice. Once in the fall and once in summer. I preferred the fall for the cool crisp nights.

Clean, Quiet, and Spacious

We spent 3 nights at Bear Den Family Campground at site A12. The campground is located directly off the Blue Ridge Parkway about a half a mile into the woods. Once you arrive and check in, a staff member leads you to your site and guides you in. We had a back in site, but there are plenty of pull through sites.

The site was level, and we only had to level a little front to back. Our site was surrounded by trees and included a picnic table and campfire ring made of large rocks. The water pressure was good and the sewer connection was easy to access close to the camper and far enough above ground to easily hookup. Power was wired correctly and was safe to connect to. On our pedestal there was 50A, 30A, and a 20A.

The back of our site sat approximately 40 feet above the pond and provided a nice view. The A loop we were in is new for this season.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return without any hesitation. We don't have young kids, but there is lots for th he kiddos to do; fishing, arcade, playground, basketball, volleyball, and hiking.

Great site, water and power were a little further away than we would like, but playground and bath house being so close was perfect, especially for our kids to play while we were setting up and cooking. We hiked to the waterfall, which was difficult at times, but worth it. Glad we took our hammocks to hang out and have a break between hiking up and back down. Would recommend renting golf cart if going to stay around campground.

This was a perfect place for a weekend getaway. We stayed at a tent site and were happy with the amenities. There’s a pond for fishing and swimming, trails to hike, and playgrounds for the kids. The only downside is the sites are quite close to one another and the golf carts can be loud, although quiet hours seem to be respected.

A Haven in the Wilderness

This is a fantastic campground/resort! The sites in our area were spacious enough, and our site was private enough. The site offered a full hookup, with a short distance to the bathhouse if needed. There were several lovely hikes on the grounds/accessible from the campground. One took us to a lovely 50ft waterfall and another took us to a lovely cascade, not too far from the grounds. There were plenty of family friendly amenities such as an arcade space, license-free fishing in their private pond, basketball court & more. The pond touted you could swim but it didn’t seem swimmable in our opinion. There were nice chairs and a small waterfall feature by the pond that allowed for peaceful relaxing whether you were fishing or not. The campground also had a nice general supply store at the entrance and offered golf cart rentals. The location of this campground was one of our favorite aspects. Far enough off the beaten path that you feel as though you’ve gone off the grid but close enough that you can find things to do if you’re not sit-around-the-campsite-for-days kind of people. We day tripped to Boone, Beech Mountain, Little Switzerland, & Grandfather Mountain. The bathhouse was very nice & clean next to us in section B. I didn’t use the showers since we have a fully contained camper but wanted to peek so I could speak to it for this review. The sites were level and an employee escorts you to your site and helps you back in / get parked. (No more “honey I’m sorry for what I said when we were parking the camper” moments here! ;-)) Definitely hike Bear Paw trail if you have an hour to spare. And Cascade is definitely strenuous in sections but the falls are a lovely reprieve! 2 great trails in your back door if you stay here! Enjoy!

Beautiful mountain campground

The staff here is friendly and attentive. They do an excellent job cleaning the bathrooms/showers and maintaining the trails and roads. Upon arrival, a staff member escorted us to our campsite and offered to help us back our tiny teardrop into the site. Sweet. The site we had was fairly level and the hookups were great. The property is very pretty with a small fish pond and a waterfall near the entrance. It's a family atmosphere with lots of things for the kids to do such as a game room, playgrounds, basketball, fishing in the little pond, and trails to hike. Even though they were nearly fully booked, it was very quiet at night. There is a large Walmart not too far away in case you forget anything  (we did), and there is also a small store on site.

The only negative is that the sites are very close together. Our picnic table sat right next to our neighbor's large black sewer pipe. Next time we'll bring a screen of some sort.  We had a great time though, and we would definitely stay there again.

One of the best around

This is such a great campsite. We have tent camped, cabin camped and RV camped here on several occasions. The cabins are awesome and each site is nice and private with great tree and brush cover separating sites. The hiking trails at the campground are very impressive. They range from easy to challenging and it is nice that you dont have to leave the grounds to enjoy a nice hike.

Then, down the road you find yourself at the Apple Orchard off of the Blue Ridge, which is an absolutely charming place. It feels like a scene from a most perfect movie.

Highly HIGHLY recommend this awesome campground/resort.

Returned to our Roots

My husband and I started our camping life with Bear Den in 2004 and we decided to come back in our own camper this time. The roads in are very narrow and winding. There were some pretty hairy parts coming in. Thankfully we made it without too many issues. Our site had some great views but mostly because the other sites were empty. The sites are very close together but if the foliage was filled in it would likely not seem as close.

The weather was extremely cold and we ended up losing our heat so had to cut the trip short but we had a nice time otherwise. We will definitely be back if we have more time. The hassle of getting in and out of the campground and each space isn’t something we want to do for a weekend trip.

Fabulous! We already rebooked for next year!

We stayed at Bear Den at the end  of October 2020 to enjoy the autumn colors in Western NC.   I loved being able to camp in our little Casita in Pisgah National Forest right off the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We were able to take advantage of hiking at Linville Falls/Gorge, Grandfather Mountain and Hawksbill Mountain.  Plenty of other activities around if hiking is not your thing.   Some of the sites are a bit close due to it being a private campground.  However, we scouted out the best sites for us and are rebooked in a much more private site for 2021.   Wi-fi is only available up near the visitors center.  Well maintained campground with clean facilities.  Water, electric and sewer hook up available.

What An Experience!

If you are looking for a campground that is quiet and secluded - this is your place!

We are a tent camping family so we stayed in Section “A.” It was really quiet, everyone was respectful of quiet hours. The bathhouse was very well maintained and clean. Never out of soap or toilet paper - biggest plus were the hot showers!

The campsites were spaced out perfectly with enough natural separation from trees, bushes, etc. The campsites were also pretty large, at least ours was. Just make sure you read the size of the campsite before you book because we noticed a sizes difference amongst all them.

I read a lot of reviews about cellphone service prior to coming, and they were all pretty accurate. My husband and I have Verizon wireless, and we had about 2 bars of LTE (when we weren’t connected to the wifi at the campground) which was enough service to call family and friends, but not enough to text or load any apps.

Overall, huge recommend. So much to do, so peaceful, relaxing, and super scenic. P.S. the blue ridge parkway in the fall is something out of a fairytale, just gorgeous.

Great retreat

We had a great time relaxing by the camp fire, hiking the trails, and enjoying some time away front town/city life. It was quiet, semi private, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Sites range from tent to cabin, with electric, water and on some sites, sewer hook up. We had a camper van. The site was leveled well, so no jacks were needed to level up the van. Hikes lead to overlooks and waterfalls, and some are quite strenuous. The ground sparkles with mica, giving it a reflective, magical appearance. We had a relaxing and fun time and recommend this for campers. AAA discounts apply, to make it downright cheap to enjoy a getaway.

It’s ok!

This campground is literally in the Blue Ridge mountains. So be prepared for winding roads. We did this pulling a 31 ft camper. Also the drive going in and out of the campground is pretty steep and only a single lane. They say they have good wifi and cell service, Maury determined that was a lie! They Only have wifi at the store and bath houses. But if you are going to get away from technology, then this may be your place. I will say the blue hike to the waterfall was worth the 3 hour trip we took. It’s pretty treacherous but so worth it. Would we stay again? Nope! It’s very very close to other campers you can hear the other campers talk in their RVs. For it to be a campground in the Blue Ridge it sure has a lot of camping spots close together. We had a camper behind us in cabin and on both sides with nothing separating but a small ditch. The hike and waterfall was amazing though.

Private campground with a state park feel

Located directly off Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 324.8 Spruce Pine N.C. Site are level well shaded with a little separation from neighboring sites. Full hookups including sewer, which was a first for us, and clean bathhouse. The only real knocks I would give it are the gas powered golf carts they rent to those that want them. Noisy and smelly with kids behind the wheel just joyriding not really going anywhere but back and forth by our campsite. Proximity to all the Parkway has to offer is it’s greatest asset. Within minutes of a u-pick apple orchard, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mtn., The towns of Banner Elk, Boone, and Blowing Rock. Our site overlooked a heavily wooded valley that lit up every night with fireflies. It was hard for me to find any negatives.
