All Dirt Roads Lead to……

Mortimer Campground does not disappoint! Hiking, fishing, swimming, and waterfall splashing abound on, and around, this campground. Many of the campsites are situated along Thorps Creek, so the sound of the creek can lull you to sleep. We stayed on site #6, which was on the creek. Two…

Bear Den Campground

Great site, water and power were a little further away than we would like, but playground and bath house being so close was perfect, especially for our kids to play while we were setting up and cooking. We hiked to the waterfall, which was difficult at times, but worth it. Glad we took our hammocks…

Shakedown trip with new first camper

Great state park. Easy back in some pull through. Spacious clean sites. Many historic hiking trails easy to mod. Horse trails with stables. Bike trails. Lake Craig is nice fishing with rentable Jon boats, kayaks and SUP. No gas motors or swimming. No pool and dump station only. Playground and clean…

Relaxing

To be honest I own the place! But I do not live on the property so this is my get away spot. I am a hammock camper so I love being in trees. I have cleaned out about an acre for tent or hammock camping, another acre for shared areas, and the pasture has about an acre wide open for dogs, horses…

Sweet Piece of Paradise

Sweet piece of paradise! The Apache is an awesome and comfortable vintage pop up camper with sleeping for 3-4 people. Sleeping to the sweet song of the creek right next to us was incredibly restorative ! The shared  porta potty and camp kitchen and lounge (separate from the Apache) were very clean.…

Cool campground

We stayed at site L12 on the Long Arm Campground #2. The paddle in was ok but there was some boat traffic. The site was very nice, however, it would be better to choose a site from 14 or higher. Sites 11, 12, and 13 are nice but the landing is in a shallow algae filled cove. Not ideal for…

Peaceful & friendly

Compared to some other state parks in SC, this one was less crowded and more peaceful. It had rained right before we arrived, and we got stuck in the mud trying to back-in our pop-up on a hill (lake campground #29). The campers all pitched in to pull us out. It was silent at night. Nice hiking…

Birthday Weekend

Camping was fine. The general store has everything from meat to milk. We were literally right on the creek, love the sound of rushing water. The weekend we stated the pool was closed, the kids had a good time in the game room.

Beautiful!

This was my first-ever camping trip and I’m glad that it was here. We stayed at site 11 in location 2 on the Lake James campgrounds; it’s a paddle-in-only location. Getting there required canoeing in, which was easy for us to do on the lake’s dock. (We rented canoes from CBS a ways away.) The trip…

Sites very close together. Bath House pretty nice though.

The sites are very close together. The tent sites have a sand base to the site and sand gets everywhere! We were across from the bath house and the bath house was nice and clean but kinda small. Friendly atmosphere and it appears that most people are long term campers.

Good stay for the price

We stayed 2 nights in our 17' travel trailer and enjoyed clean bathrooms and hot showers, plus our site #2 had a small deck that came in handy when we were able to move the picnic table under our camper awning to avoid a light rain. Don't miss Linville Falls, but especially don't miss the drive up…

A Haven in the Wilderness

This is a fantastic campground/resort! The sites in our area were spacious enough, and our site was private enough. The site offered a full hookup, with a short distance to the bathhouse if needed. There were several lovely hikes on the grounds/accessible from the campground. One took us to a…
