Bolar Mountain

This place is amazing. I could stay here every weekend and not get tired of it. Warm water, fresh air, no service.

Nice spot to camp on the river

Very nice campground with water and electric right on the river for $32, clean bathrooms and showers, and very nice owners. We stayed for one night but most of the others staying there had horses and were staying a while. The only slight negative is the town is closed down, so make sure you bring…

Beautiful campground surrounding site 34 at Bolar Mountain Campground

This was our first camping trip to actually visit lake Moomaw in Warm Springs Virginia.  We had been close before but never made it to the lake itself.

First off, sorry for the audio on the video we uploaded.  It seems in March of 2021 I was diagnosed with having lung cancer and it is pinching the…

more remote and primitive for car camping

A great, quiet campground with fewer sites than most.  It is about 5 miles from the summit of Spruce Knob (highest peak in West Virginia).  Tow campers smaller in size can certainly make it, although mostly tent camping which I like.  Some drive up, some drive, park, and walk up.  There is a single…

Primitive campground, great base for fishing or hunting

This campground is situated just off the road through beautiful Smoke Hole Canyon (a sharp turn if you're northbound). The entrance has video surveillance and there is a self-pay station at a tree on on your way in. Pay your $10 and drive in to set up. Sites are grassy, not clearly delineated, and…

Meh

The sites are okay- level, some shade- but felt like we were on top of people. The shower house needs work- no ventilation makes for a stifling shower and bathroom use. The swimming “lake” cools ya off but is pretty dirty- had to wash my suit twice to get it clean. They had a band one night we were…

Fantastic time

Stayed in the upper loop. Amazing stars, good space at the sites and enough growth between sites that you aren’t on top of each other.

The river and floating are fabulous. Views are gorgeous. No cell service so you can totally disconnect.

4 stars really because there is not ice available at…

Love it!

A bear ran through the campground so that was really cool. Wonderful campground with nice hikes. Kids love it. The lake is pretty. Out in the rustic wilds. Just what camping should be. Bring everything you need bc there’s nothing there.

Great campground

Nice quiet campground the site we stayed in was in a great location had a little stream running across the back side only downside was its not level by no means but i was still able to get the camper leveled up and enjoyed the site. It would Be nice if they would at least build a level pad for the…

One of our favorites

I’ve stayed here in a tent and a camper. I’ve also stayed in the cabins. We love this park so much. The river is beautiful, the hiking excellent, and the fantastic rail trail is right there. The area has so much to offer - Bear Town, Cranberry, Falls - it’s all wild wonderful West Virginia!!

Lots of Nearby Trails

Douthat State Park has a lot of different trails for both hikers and mountain bikers. It's a great place to set up base camp and go out and explore during the day. The facilities are on par with other VA state parks. The bathrooms and showers are well maintained, but aren't anything fancy. There…
