The best TENT SITES camping near
Calhoun City , MISSISSIPPI

I stayed the night in November.  It appears to be an old reservoir that has been drained.  The site has about 5 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings.  Nothing spectacular.  The locals do come through to party on the old reservoir.

The reservoir was empty at this location.  It seems its part of Lake Enid and there is an old boat ramp, but there was no water in the reservoir.

Wow! What a great little campground. It is maintained very well. There is a great little playground for little ones. Easy access to fishing and water sports when the lake is up. When the lake is down, explore the lake bottoms. Sites on the back side of the loop are spaced out much more nicely than those on the front. All sites have a parking spot. No sewer hookup but the dump site is really close.

There are two pull through ADA sites. This is a hidden gem!

No hookups. Nothing. But, it is a free campground so what can you say. It’s rather nice there. This is a very small campground with about 5 spots. Large rigs are a no go I would think, as access can be tight. If you’re in a small to medium travel trailer or a tent, this could work out.

Bathrooms are there but bring your own paper.

It seems that all of the campgrounds on the north side of Sardis Lake are a let down. This place is bad. Permanent looking residents. Campers blocking roads. There was even a camper backed up to the wall of the restrooms. There is a closed down store there. Roads in are bad as well. Do yourselves a favor and stay on the south side.

There are two campgrounds listed close to each other. We tried to find this one hoping it would be nicer than the other… never found it. Took a video of the location the coordinates led to.

Not sure what else to say. This place is rough. The app lists two campgrounds. Only one is here and it is not run by the COE. Most spots were empty. For the view you are looking across the street at a run down trailer park. Much better options on this wonderful lake.

The one good spot on this is the boat ramp and fish cleaning station. Granted, it’s closed right now, but they are very nice.

This is a small campground, consisting of five tent sites. The websites states you can bring a small camper here, but in wouldn’t try it. The bathrooms are run down and have a port a potty feel. The roads in are horrible. There are people riding off road vehicles in the lake bottoms quite often.

Now, that having been said… the view is great. You can see out across the lake. There is plenty of space to hike and explore. It is a free campground, so really, one can’t complain.

This is a beautiful campground. Sites are nestled in the woods and neighbors aren’t too close. Much of the campground is closed for winter right now, but the lack of a crowd just adds to the appeal.

Most sites have water and electrical hookups but no sewer. We did see at least one site that did not appear to have a water connection.

The dump site is not marked, but there is one. It is on the way out of the campground near the primitive campsites.

The primitive sites are amazing. Most overlook a small valley/bottom that allow for spectacular views and hiking.

If you are looking for someplace close to town, this isn’t your spot. It’s a bit of a hike to get back to it. Your GPS will tell you to take a back road, don’t. Go into Oxford and take Jackson Ave to North Oxford Loop. Much better roads this way.

Local area lacks activities, but this park is a peace goldmine!

This place is absolutely beautiful. The birds migrating and stopping along the river make for such a relaxing and peaceful place to stop and relax. The town neighboring the park makes it difficult to do anything because there is not much there unless you plan on driving 30+ minutes away. However, the setting more than makes up for that.
