Best RV Parks & Resorts near De Soto National Forest

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

RV parks near De Soto National Forest provide varied options for motorhome travelers. Cajun RV Park in Biloxi offers full hookup sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections across from the Gulf. "Some concrete pads, some gravel pads, full hookups, pool, and laundry facilities. Quite, except for go-kart park next door until 10:00 pm," noted one camper. Majestic Oaks RV Resort features 100 concrete sites accommodating big rigs with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical options. Green Wood Stable Lodge RV Park provides more secluded sites with 50-amp and 30-amp service, though without sanitary dump stations on property. Most parks in the region maintain level sites with limestone or concrete pads to accommodate larger motorhomes.

Interstate 10 provides direct access to several RV parks in the Biloxi and Gulfport areas, approximately 30 miles south of De Soto National Forest. Cell service varies throughout the region, with stronger coverage near coastal areas and potentially weaker signals in more rural locations near the forest. According to one visitor, "The park was filled with friendly campers who made this place enjoyable. The price was a win. The site itself was very basic without Wi-Fi and an old fashion looking water pump." Pet policies differ between parks, with most allowing pets on leash. Laundry facilities are available at select locations including Majestic Oaks and Cajun RV Park. During peak vacation seasons, particularly summer months when beach access is popular, advance reservations are strongly recommended as coastal RV parks fill quickly.

    Magnolia Sands RV Park

    Magnolia Sands RV Park, Mississippi

What a great little RV park Magnolia Sands is!! Bridgett and Gary offer a rural setting in southeast Mississippi. 5 miles from Wiggins, Ms. Park has 20 sites with full hook-ups. $24 for 30 amp and $26 per night for 50 amp. Beautiful park amongst the trees with its own pond. Concrete pads are large enough to handle most “big rigs”. Open year round and monthly rates are available. The park is 40 miles north of Gulf Port and Biloxi so finding some Gulf beaches is easy. On site is a laundry, game room, meeting room and bathrooms with showers. Basketball and volleyball areas provide recreational entertainment. A strong WiFi network is available. The nearby town of Wiggins has everything you’ll need! Restaurants, grocery stores and fuel.

If you are looking for a quite, peaceful, no frills spot to stay… I highly recommend Magnolia Sands RV Park! We have already booked our stay to return in March.

Little Black Creek Campground & Park

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hidden Gem — Can’t Believe I’d Never Heard of It!

We just spent the weekend at Little Black Creek Campground in Lumberton, MS, and it absolutely deserves a 5-star review. I live less than 2 hours away and honestly can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this place sooner — it’s a massive, beautifully wooded, and incredibly well-maintained hidden gem.

We stayed at a full hookup RV site and were blown away by how spacious, level, and private it was. Most sites had wooden decks, and many had lake views or direct access, including ours, which had stairs leading right down to the water and a picnic table on a platform. We didn’t see a single “bad” site in the whole park.

The lake is gorgeous, and swimming is allowed! They have kayaks, canoes, jon boats for rent, and even a bait shop onsite. There’s also fishing, hiking trails, disc golf (two full courses!), a general store, multiple bathhouses, and cute tiny cabin rentals for non-RV guests. They even have propane filling, golf cart rentals, and a dump station. It’s a great mix of peaceful nature and plenty to do.

The campground is huge and wooded, with tons of shade and a very peaceful, quiet, and family-friendly atmosphere. There are two beaches — one near the main camp side and another closer to long-term spots and day visitors. We brought our e-bikes and loved riding around the scenic roads and loops.

The bathhouses were older but very clean and air-conditioned, and we felt completely safe the entire time. There’s a gated entrance at night with code access, which is a nice extra touch. The store staff were super friendly and helpful, even giving us some history on the campground. The greeter at the front gate wasn’t the warmest, but that didn’t impact our stay at all.

There’s no Wi-Fi, but T-Mobile worked just enough for us to use a hotspot to stream TV at night. Cell service is limited but manageable.

It’s also very easy to find, just a few minutes off the main road with a gas station and small town nearby, and only about 30 minutes from Hattiesburg.

We will 100% be back and have already told several friends about it. If you’re looking for a peaceful, activity-filled campground that’s off the radar but worth every mile, Little Black Creek is it. Truly one of the best surprises we’ve had camping!

    Oaklawn RV Park

    Good for a layover

The good: location was great, right off the highway and next to a Camping World, Tire center, and emergency vet. Wi-Fi worked well, park felt safe, and we were only 10 minutes from major attractions in the area. The bad: water pressure was horrible. Sites were tight and overlapping, a little uneven, and about 4 inches unlevel. This is definitely a long term campground connected to a mobile home park.

There are a few open pull throughs for transient travelers and I would recommend them as an overnight stay based on location only.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

Gem on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

We really enjoyed our stay at Davis Bayou. The campground seems to be a bit dated, but we kinda enjoyed the nostalgic element this added to the vibe.

The sites vary in size, we noticed most big rigs had to park their tow vehicles or toads in the auxiliary parking. If this is a problem you may want to look at other options, as the park staff is very diligent about keeping folks off the grass.

The park staff did regular patrols though out the park. They were very friendly.

We enjoyed riding our bikes around the park and to the historic arts district in Ocean Springs. There are several restaurants and bars with live music which was fun. There are also alot of art studios to check out.

We also took our canoe all though out Davis Bayou and to the beach, which was a ton of fun. The tides are in play here, so make sure you study up as conditions can and do change rapidly.

The visitors center is definitely worth checking out and while your there make sure to check out the fishing pier.

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, power and water.

The cost is $22 a night per site.

The bathhouses were cleaned regular and had great water pressure. The water has a bit of a smell to it.

    Verizon cell service worked okay.

    Bring bug spray.

    Big Biloxi Recreation Area

    Spacious Lots & Easy Locaion

This is a campsite of 25 lots (4 accessible) with a bathhouse and friendly camp host. Located in the De Soto National Forest just north of Gulfport, MS, it’s an easily accessible campground whether you’re here to visit the Gulf or do some hiking on the many miles of trails through the park.

Dog-friendly and clean, there is a 1/2 mile nature hike within the campground.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

    Close to Ocean Springs, Ms.

This is a popular park during the winter months as it is a National Park. Reserve early. No wifi, no laundry but clean bathrooms and shower. Electric and water at the campsites and a dump station is available. Close to town and all the good eats. Nice clean park.

    Santa Maria RV Park

Christopher Columbus Would Have Loved This Place!

I’m not sure where they got the name from, but if El Colon was still living, he would really dig how this RV parking lot is using the name of his beloved Santa Maria! Located due south of Farragut Lake, right off Rt. 10 and just west of the Pascagoula River, you’ll come across Santa Maria RV Resort Marina.

This spot offers up just about everything you would expect – full RV hook ups including water, sewer and electricity (30 / 50 amp), level gravel beds where you can just connect, level up and be done with it in under 5 minutes. Unlike most RV parking lots, this place has a ton of space and there’s somewhat good distance between your spot and those on either side of you. And if you’re hauling or driving anything bigger than the standard RV or camper, no worries, this place is spacious enough to accommodate just about any size (and even large group sizes). The campground was both kid and pet friendly. Also, I found the on-site campground management team to be incredibly over-friendly (nice Southern hospitality!) and accommodating.

From an amenities standpoint, this place is completely full-service (in fact, they’ll escort you right to your campsite!). They’ve got a small, but clean swimming pool, laundr-O-mat, spartan restroom facilities and a propane pump on-site. WiFi is available for free and cable is offered for a small price if you need that. Overall, I found the place to be very well-organized, incredibly clean and exceptionally safe with round-the-clock security.

With nature in mind, this place is in close proximity to quite a bit – from Gautier, MS who’s moniker is ‘Nature’s Playground,’ there’s tons of wildlife to see, decent outdoor recreation and hiking to be found and bayous all over the place to drop your kayak or canoe into.

Insider’s tip? Some of the best kayaking was had in and around Mississippi - Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. Closer to the campground though, you’ll find a splendid little Southern town in the City of Gautier, which has some quiet boutique-type shops, Southern restauarnts (I strongly recommend Belle’s on the Bayou or Country Gentleman), farmers market on the weekends, nice municipal parks and even some art exhibits from time to time. All in all, I strongly recommend Santa Maria RV Resort Marina if you’re looking for a decent stop along your travels.

    Happy Camping!

Paul B. Johnson State Park Campground

    Pleasantly surprised

We had the good fortune of finding this gem as an overnight waypoint on a recent trip to Florida. We found an asphalt pad with full hookups overlooking Lake Geiger for our Sprinter Camper van. Friendly staff. Good value. Primitive sites were still closed. The park features the Lake set in a tall pine forest and was near capacity but did not feel crowded or loud. We were only sorry that we did not budget enough time to enjoy all this place has to offer. We will not make that mistake next time!

    Parkers Landing RV Park

    Great stopover

Right off I-10, this park is convenient to thru travelers looking for a quick overnight. Not horribly expensive. Full hook ups, clean level site. Easy in and out. Bathrooms dated but super clean. Many long-term campers here but no problem, everyone was cool. Would definitely stay here again.

Guide to De Soto National Forest

De Soto National Forest camping options provide motorhome travelers with alternatives to the coastal RV parks located 30 miles south. The national forest encompasses over 500,000 acres of pine forests and blackwater streams in southern Mississippi, with elevations ranging from 100 to 400 feet above sea level. During summer months, temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while spring and fall offer milder conditions for campers.

What to do

Fishing at nearby lakes: Several RV parks near De Soto National Forest offer fishing opportunities. At Magnolia Sands RV Park, campers can enjoy their own fishing pond on-site. "Beautiful park amongst the trees with its own pond. Concrete pads are large enough to handle most 'big rigs'," notes one visitor.

Beach access: Many coastal campgrounds provide convenient beach access within driving distance of De Soto National Forest. Gulf Beach RV Resort offers proximity to Gulf beaches. "You can walk a block to the beach, bring a wagon to haul your beach gear or drive as there is parking at the beach," one camper advises.

Go-kart racing: Several RV parks near De Soto National Forest have adjacent entertainment options. "This campground is situated just across the road from Biloxi Beach. There are several amenities that make this the perfect place to camp and is reasonably priced," shares a visitor about Cajun RV Park.

What campers like

Pool facilities: Multiple RV parks feature swimming pools for cooling off during hot Mississippi days. Majestic Oaks RV Resort receives praise for its "heated pool year round" and "big showers." One reviewer notes, "Very nice site and grounds. Nice places to walk a dog and even a place to let them run. Really nice laundry facilities."

Pet-friendly accommodations: Many campgrounds welcome pets, with some offering dedicated pet areas. "Great location for beach and casino. Grounds are well kept," mentions a camper at Cajun RV Park. Another visitor at Majestic Oaks appreciates that the resort "has its own dog park."

Quiet rural settings: For travelers seeking tranquility away from busy coastal areas, Green Wood Stable Lodge RV Park offers a peaceful alternative. "We stayed 2 nights and loved it. It is a quiet country feel just minutes from downtown Biloxi and the casinos. We went to the dock to buy fresh shrimp right off the boat," shares one reviewer.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: RV parks differ in how closely units are positioned. At Oaklawn RV Park, "spaces are narrow but gravel was recently added. Leveling was easy, electric and water hook ups are in a good location," according to one camper. Another notes, "Each site is extremely small/tight. When we put out our awning, it literally hit the RV that was next to us."

Wi-Fi reliability fluctuates: Internet connectivity differs between parks and even within the same facility. "The internet is virtually non-existent, which is an issue because they list it in the park description," reports a visitor at Oaklawn RV Park, while another camper found "decent LTE speed on my phone but my Verizon LTE router was slow."

Noise considerations: Some parks experience noise from nearby attractions or transportation. "The biggest disappointment was the close proximity to a go-cart track (next door)," mentions one camper. Another reports that at Southern Oaks Mobile Home & RV Community there was "more than normal noise activities from the interstate being close."

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Some parks offer activities specifically designed for children. "Nice location. Across the street from the beach. Nice pool. Clean bathhouse. Lots of activities like putt putt golf, go carts, sailing, fishing etc," reports a visitor to Cajun RV Park.

Consider proximity to attractions: Shields RV Park offers nearby recreational opportunities. "Large full hook up sites, nice laundry facility and restrooms, and the office staff was very professional and accommodating for our last minute reservations. There are two parts to the campground, one of which is by a lake," notes a reviewer.

Check bathroom facilities: Family campers often appreciate clean, accessible bathrooms. "My girlfriend was especially impressed with the showers, comparing them to luxury hotels," reports one camper. Another mentions, "Clean bathhouse with 4 separate rooms with toilets and showers."

Tips from RVers

Reserve early during peak seasons: Availability can be limited, especially at popular coastal sites. "The park was filled with friendly campers who made this place enjoyable. The price was a win. The site itself was very basic without Wi-Fi and an old fashion looking water pump," reports one RVer.

Consider pad materials: Different RV parks offer varying site surfaces. "Level concrete pads with full hookups and cable. Newish with fine laundry/bath/shower/office facilities. The real draw is the beach just across the street, and the casinos down the road," notes a visitor to Gulf Beach RV Resort.

Check for big rig accommodations: Not all parks can accommodate larger RVs. "With ample slanted and elongated parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 30/50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections," reports a reviewer at Lakeview RV Resort.
