Vicksburg Battlefield Campground

With sites accessible by car and a location adjacent to Vicksburg National Military Park, this established campground serves as a base for battlefield visitors. The facility provides full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections, though multiple reviewers report issues with water pressure and electrical problems at some pedestals.

The campground functions primarily as a long-term residential facility with permanent RVs occupying many sites. Road conditions within the property receive frequent criticism from visitors, and several reviewers mention noise from highway traffic and barking dogs. Restroom facilities exist on-site, though maintenance appears inconsistent based on camper feedback. Cell service and Wi-Fi coverage prove limited, with internet access restricted to the office area.

Pricing runs around $40 per night including tax, though some visitors report confusion about rates when calling ahead. Dan M. notes "deranged clean outs and electric pedestals" while acknowledging the location's proximity to the national park. The campground allows pets and campfires where permitted.

For those planning battlefield tours, the walking distance to the park entrance makes this a convenient overnight option despite facility limitations. Campers seeking additional accommodation choices can explore campsites near Vicksburg for alternatives in the area.

This campground's main advantage is proximity to Vicksburg National Military Park. However, numerous guests pointed out significant maintenance issues, unreliable utilities, and that it functions more as permanent housing than traditional camping.

Not impressed!!?

Not impressed At all!!!!! Not well kept sites.  I was put in a space with no table, bent water faucet and electric box and  Stuck between two "permanent" RVs.  Property needs maintenance. For $40 you'd expect to get a better space and WiFi.  No WiFi where I was stuck.    Paid for two nights, but probably won't stay both.   So far I see no positives about this place....

Still a Battle

Was misrepresented over the phone.  Wife was told $25 per night then charged $35 per night plus $5 tax therefore it's $40 per night.

It's mostly a work camp with a couple that need to be permanently retired out of there.

Wifi only available in the office area and not in the campsites.

Deranged clean outs and electric pedestals.

First attempt to plug in showed reversed polarity so had to use second receptacle for next door pad.

Pad was flat/level. Was fairly quiet.

Restrooms appeared decent until you get past the lipstick on a pig.

Positive is that the location was close to the Battlefield National Park.

More a long term facility

I am not sure if this is truly a campground. It’s very convenient to the Vicksburg National Military Park and I20. However the place seems to be geared to long-term permanent residents.

Avoid at all costs as it looks like it lost the battle

I would give this campground less than 1 star if possible.  We did not stay here, but drove through the campground on 8-4-2019.
The campground and motel appear to cater to those who would otherwise be homeless. The RV's that are in the cg are old, dilapidated with blue tarps on some of the roofs and junk and garbage outside many of the RV's. The sites are small and the hookups are questionable.

It is sad that this cg that is so close to the Battlefield is in such a state of disrepair.

Close to Battlefield park

Close to Battlefield Park was the best thing. Sites were okay but road around park not good. Not what I would call family friendly. We just stayed for a place to sleep.

Good location

This was a great location if wanting to camp near the Vicksburg National military park. We walked to the park. Very few tent spots and most were in disrepair. The bathrooms were ok, they tried to keep them clean. The staff was friendly. Lots of highway noise, lots of noise from the permanent residents and their dogs. No wifi, no water.

So this campground seems abandoned basically.

The light on the post above a very worn sign was lit. The cafe on site is closed, the water hookups for RVs produced nothing upon turning the handles. I didn't try the outlets on the sites. The light bulb outside of the building with a men's bathroom sign was lit but there was no sign indicating another door for women, and upon trying the men's the door was screwed shut. Ultimately I slept in the car with my two kids instead of setting up camp, peed in some bushes and bathed us clothed with cold hose water from the back of the cafe building in the morning. Nobody showed up to collect money, and there was no box to deposit it. Not terrible if you don't mind roughing it since it was essentially free and very beautiful, peaceful camping spot.
