Beautiful spot

Whether you’re staying short term or long, it’s a beautiful spot worth the money. They have a beautiful lake that does have clear water, showers and bathrooms. As well as washers and dryers!! For only 1.50 a piece.

Great state park!

This place is a step back in time of sorts.  Very old and quaint.  For the price, it's perfect.  Very secluded, wooded and a fun place to explore.  Check it out!

Quiet and shady

Quiet wooded area with water and electricity. There are bath houses that have washer and dryer’s available so bring your quarters and laundry soap. Disc golf looked nice and there we two playgrounds.

AT&T service was sill strength.

Some updates needed

We picked out a campsite and set up our camp for the evening. However, we then found out that the bathroom and shower room were closed. As such, we had to walk quite a ways to use the facilities. Just check it out before you set up your camp.

Abounds in charm and hospitality

My stay won't likely be like yours. First, I drove in while Mississippi was under a blanket of snow. All the roads in Holly Springs and the rest of the state were treacherous with packed snow and ice following a week of unseasonably frigid weather across the southern midwest.

That said, the 2 rangers working at Wall Doxey went out of their way to set me up with a parking place in the practically empty campground, putting me in the youth camp, finding me an extension cord to hook up to power and allowing me access to the group camp for a bathroom and shower.

This was necessary because many areas were either in the middle of renovation, inaccessible or out of service due to frozen pipes. To say these ladies went out of their way to get me situated is an understatement. They were heroines!

The camp has loads of retro charm. A big mid-century lodge, picnic area, swimming lake, frisbee golf and a 2 mile hiking trail around the lake. I enjoyed a walk thru the snow and the comfort of having a safe and caring place to stay during my trip through Mississippi.

I suspect it will be the same for you even if your visit is under far different circumstances.

Quiet, inexpensive nature setting campground

Remotely located but still close to major roads. We came in with a 38’ RV not much problem with spaces but be aware of trees on both sides of spaces. We were given space #60 but would not have been able to open slides because of trees so we took another space. Most of them are not leveled. Water and electric hookups. We saw a momma dear and her baby cross the road. Lots of trees and leaves everywhere. It’s fall. For the price it can’t be beat. We paid senior price $16.

Pretty basic campground

Good place to stop on the way to somewhere else. If you’re allergic to poison ivy, watch out. The stuff is everywhere!

Nice basic campground

Park is very pretty but needs some TLC to its facilities. Spoke with Norma when headed to campground and she said a tree had fallen on road to our campsite. Had call in to rangers to clear it. She called us back that afternoon and it was cleared. Our breaker box kept tripping so may have been something wrong with electric hookup. Not crowded at all.

Good stop over but don't stay more than a night...

Was clean-ish, but extremely out of date with a lot of broken and closed amenities. Showed up during open hours, tried to claim our reservation....and there was no one there at all. No staff. No humans. Not being able to register wasn't a problem because we had our pick of sites. Site was in decent shape with power and water. Camped and moved on...

Basic but nice

This is a pretty basic campsite, but I enjoyed it.

  • I'm a tent camper and had to move sites since the one I originally picked didn't have an area for my tent. Make sure you get there by 3ish to check that your site can accommodate a tent and stakes
  • Site had a grill, table and firepit
  • Sites were very close together
  • They were out of firewood to purchase, but you are allowed to bring your own
  • There were a lot of Ole Miss students at the park playing disc golf
  • Bathrooms are pretty old
  • I could hear highway traffic at night, but it wasn't too distracting
  • I would camp here again

Wonderful Halloween park

My wife and I have only camped here once. It won’t be the last time, but we were invited to the halloween get to gether at the park . And we had no idea it was such a big deal. But we drove down and visited and hung around for the festivities and boy was it worth it. Every camp site had wonderful decorations and the kids had such a blast. It was awesome. And the rest of the year it is a quiet getaway.

Nice and quiet

Older state park that could use some TLC, but it was peaceful and quiet. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. We were only able to spend a little time at the lake as we were in the area for a family gathering, in New Albany, so spent the bulk of our weekend away from the park. Friendly front gate staff. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice and Peaceful

We spent an afternoon here exploring and checking into the campground for future stays. It’s an older, rustic campground and the age shows. However, if you are looking for a peaceful, private campground, this is it. The bathrooms are old, but clean. I’m leery of old bathrooms, but I can make this one work. The lake is great for fishing and has two piers to use, plus a small boat launch. there is no swimming in this lake. Rumor has it that there is Walleye fish in this lake! Looking forward to staying here in a couple of weeks to see if we can catch one!

Other activities include frisbee golf, hiking trail, two playgrounds, volleyball and a large day use area.

Great Campground and disc golf!

Wall Doxey is a well maintained campground. The sites are far enough apart to not feel on top of your neighbor. The playground could use an update, but it does the job keeping the kids entertained. The highlight for us is the disc golf course the winds through the pine forest. That also leads me to the one negative...the pine trees... If you are camping here anytime during the warmer months, be ready to pick ticks off of everyone! other than that, this is a great campground for tents or RV’s with water and electric sites.

Lovely lake

This is a little state park on the edge of the Holly Springs National Forest.

Yay: lovely easy hiking, lots of water activities, wooded campsites, simple and pretty. Nice basecamp also to explore the forest and nearby wildlife refuge.

Nay: not the fanciest campground, extremely basic but that’s not a problem for me. Close to a university, so one time we had a problem with rowdy college students, but the park rangers took care of it quickly and effectively! None of the campsites are right on the water, but some are a short walk.

Surprise: perfect stop on a road trip, close to Graceland!

Beautiful Forest

Holly Springs gives its visitors a wonderful, beauty within a land of trees and nature. As you wake up to the morning light, you can hear the faint chirping of birds as the sun slips over the horizon, sneaking inbetween the trees. The fact of waking up to this is a beauty within itself, but overall this is an amazing place to visit, and I would highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys camping, hiking, etc.
