A popular semi-primitive campground adjacent to the Cranberry River and the "lower-gate" entrance to the Cranberry Backcountry. This campground receives very high use during trout stocking from the beginning of spring through the end of June and again in the fall from September through October. During these high use times there are usually more campers waiting than there are sites available. During high use, the centrally located Bishop Knob Campground can usually accommodate campers when no sites are available along the Cranberry or Williams River Corridors. Located on Forest Road 76, 13.5 miles from Richwood, West Virginia, and 7 miles from Dyer, West Virginia.

Fourteen primitive and separately numbered campsites dispersed along a 5-mile section of the lower Cranberry River. Campsites are number 6-19 along the Cranberry River between Big Rock Campground and Cranberry Campground on Forest Road 76. Double sites available at sites 7 and 12.

This KOA is close to the interstate exit, yet a world away. The campground is perfect for an easy-in/easy-out overnight stay. Or extend your visit to enjoy the beautiful region and outlet shopping. You'll find free Wi-Fi, paved roads with long gravel pull thrus, a superclean bathhouse, laundry facility, playground for the kids, hiking trails and a game room. All sites are full hookup. This KOA is directly behind its sister property, a 200-room Days Inn & Suites (where you check in), with amenities available to registered campers that include indoor and outdoor pools, a restaurant, tavern, exercise room, gift shop and business center. Shopping is available at the nearby Flatwoods Center. Ready for a different experience? Flatwoods KOA also offers a two-bedroom/one bathroom Deluxe Cabin for rent. New River Gorge National River preserves more than 70,000 acres of land and is home to some of West Virginia’s best whitewater flowing through it. In fact, the river running through it is one of North America’s oldest rivers.

The best camping near New River Gorge National River is anywhere you can find it. All campsites are primitive, first-come, first-served, and, best of all, free. Backcountry camping works the same way. You can park your van down by the river for free, as long as you’re self-sustaining. Amenities will be minimal at any of the nine campgrounds. Not all campgrounds are drive-in or RV accessible, so verify ahead of time. As long as you follow the park’s ordinances, you can camp here for up to 14 days. If you want more traditional lodging, there are a handful of cities nearby, but the main one is Beckley, WV.
