We are a small (14 spots) locally owned and operated rv park right on the Atchafalaya River. My name is Leonard Price, owner and operator of Cajun Country Rv Park. I’m a local, and I live here on site. We have a beautiful and unique location here that was once three different commercial fishing docks. Before that, it was the site of a Union Army Fort built in 1863 to defend the island from invading rebel forces ( the Mosquito Fleet). Right across from the mouth of Bayou Teche, it was a strategic location that could also defend the river pass to the North.

Louisiana is known as Cajun country, where the land there was formed from sediment washed down by the Mississippi River, forming huge deltas and massive areas of coastal marsh and bayous with alligators and tree frogs and trees lined with spanish moss. Ibis and egrets fly through longleaf pine forests and wet savannas are filled with orchids, pitcher plants and sundews. Camping in Louisiana is an experience like no other. Whether it’s by RV, tent or just under the starlit sky, camping in Louisiana is an adventure unlike anywhere else in the United States. 


But it’s not all wetlands and marshes. Enjoy the best of coastal camping in Louisiana’s beachside community of Grand Isle. Located where Highway 1 meets the Gulf of Mexico, it’s the closest Louisiana beach from Baton Rouge and New Orleans, making these destinations a convenient day trip while you’re camping. 


Grand Isle is, in fact, an island and a town, with small, locally-owned shops and a state park just made for camping. With 63 sites available, Grand Isle State Park is a great place to camp on the beach and cook the seafood you just caught during July’s Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo, an event that brings together the best saltwater fishermen in the world. Or, if you like bird watching, the Grand Isle Migratory Bird Festival offers plenty of opportunities to see a myriad of bird species return home from South America. Of course, there’s plenty of swimming, hiking, crabbing and boating in Grand Isle as well. 


Another great place for camping in Louisiana is Tunica Hills, which belongs to the Bluff Hills portion of the Mississippi Valley Loess Plains and extends from the Natchez, Mississippi area to St. Francisville, Louisiana. Managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Tunica Hills Wildlife Area is northwest of St. Francisville and covers more than 5,900 acres of rolling hills and scenic beauty.


Remember when I talked about the wetland and marshes? Tunica Hills isn’t anything like that; in fact, it’s unlike any other area in Louisiana. In Tunica Hills, you’ll find springs and waterfalls, rugged terrain, cliffs 90 feet high, deep gorges and lush, diverse plant life and animals you won’t find anywhere else in the state.  


And while Tunica Hills is known for hunting, a variety of other activities offer campers plenty to do such as horseback riding, hiking, ATV riding and sightseeing. And if you’re a birding enthusiast, then you’ve hit the jackpot because rare birds such as the Coopers hawk and worm-eating warbler live within the thick forests there. It’s no wonder John James Audubon was inspired to paint his famous bird series there in the early 1800s.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, located in the middle of the largest swamp in the US, offers ample opportunities to explore the majesty of the wetlands through a network of elevated walkways. Campers can wander along the boardwalks and through the cypress trees as they marvel at Lake Fausse Pointe or neighboring Dauterive Lake. Park naturalists are there to help campers understand the history, ecology, and biology of the park and of the Atchafalaya Basin. Lake Fausse Pointe is an amazing destination for paddlers, with canoes and kayaks available for rent at the visitor's center to give a unique perspective of the swampy forests! Fishing is a popular activity here and little ones will enjoy the two playgrounds and splash pad at the park.

Site B is a single campsite with one canvas platform tent. Kick back and relax in the two Adirondack chairs on your tent deck This tent is furnished with a queen-size bed and memory foam mattress plus two end tables. An included pop-up tent can house additional campers (up to 4) but you will have to bring air mattresses or sleeping pads for the pop-up tent. Your group can enjoy the included fire pit, grill, picnic table, and benches during your stay. The site is approximately .5 miles from the main entrance of the park, driven all on paved and gravel road. This site cannot accommodate an RV due to its location and the size of the parking spaces. From your parking spot, the tent is right next door allowing easy and quick access to the car! From your tent, you can see the other site as it shares the same parking spot. At the campsite, you can enjoy full sun, with little to no cell phone coverage. This site provides an excellent way to unplug, unwind and soak up some sun! Swimming in the water at the park is not allowed due to the alligators. Other dangerous animals to watch out for would be (but not limited to) wild hogs, racoons, bears, and snakes.


If you have a larger group, you can book both Tentrr platform tents (Cypress Site A and Cypress Site B). With the pop-up tents, the combined sites can accommodate up to 12 campers (4 in the platform tents and up to 8 in the two pop-up tents).

The Space:

Guest Access:
Campers will have access to a primitive on-site bathroom facilities (see below) as well as the bathrooms and showers available in the general campground area. 

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

Interaction with Guests:
Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location on the property. 

If a CampKeeper submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or state park property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Big rigs should enter using the Silo Road gated entrance. Call ahead and a park staff member will meet you to open the gate that is normally locked. It is located just west of the main entrance, closer to the aviation museum. There is an old F-4 fighter jet outdoor display nearby.
