    Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins — Lassen Volcanic National Park

    Very Cozy

    We arrived very late our first night, but it was very easy to get into our cabin using the code that was emailed to us when we booked the reservation. Due to weird bookings, we had to book 2 different cabins so we got to experience 9 and 16, each of which had a heaters, which is nice for the cold nights. Despite the campground being nearly full, we got great sleep both nights and everything was quiet after 10PM. There are multiple water pumps, vaults, toilet bathrooms, and bear trash cans, each of which are maintained very well. The campground is also not too far from the museum and visitor center which have Wi-Fi. You also have a campground store that is walking distance fro the campground, but is unreasonably expensive. A bundle of firewood was somewhere around $14, and this is where the showers are which were like $5 per person. They also have gas pumps, but neither of them were in service. Aside from all this, sites themselves were amazing, and you are very close to the Manzanita Lake, which is bigger than I expected and seems to be very popular for fishing.

    Azalea Campground — Kings Canyon National Park

    A Nice Getaway

    There is camping, which is always fun, and then there is camping in a national park, which takes it to another level. This experience was super fun because this campsite is so close to the General Grant trail, only a few minutes of driving. We visited during the off-season in April, so the sites were FCFS and the directions are pretty straightforward. You put in all the details into the recreation.gov app and then you fill out a white paper which serves as a check in paper with your confirmation so that rangers know you paid. It also allows you to see which sites are available because the ones that are won't have a paper. The bathrooms were decent, and just outside of them as a sink, which is great for dishes. It was a nice and quiet experience and we will definitely be revisiting.

    Hanning Flat Dispersed Area

    Beautiful and easy to access

    A bathroom would've given this spot at 5! I had to position my car to block the wind and the bugs are here (hello, summer) but it was peaceful and perfect for the night. Go slow on the dirt road as the divots are deceiving. Please pack out whatever you bring in!

    Carson River Resort

    Full Hook Ups Only

    This isn't really a campground, it's a cabin resort that has a few RV spots with hookups. There are no bathrooms, showers or laundry facilities. No fire rings or BBQ grills. It is conveniently located directly across from the Carson River, but you have to cross a smaller stream to reach the river. For what is offered, it's overpriced.

    Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground

    Beautiful, busy campground

    Our campsite (#27) was a 10/10! It was huge, the ground was flat, there was room for multiple tents, and was fairly far away from the closest campsites. This little area of the campground was quiet and well-spaced out. The road is a dead-end here, which helps keep it a little quieter. 

    It was nearby a bathroom which was well maintained and had hot showers. The showers require tokens and the token machine is outside the bathroom - they are $1 for 1 token and 1 token gives you 5 minutes. The site was also pretty close to the camp store (open from 10-5 ish every day) and the detour for the Pine Ridge Trail. 

    The campground is dog friendly and dogs are allowed on the paved roads and the Pine Ridge Trail. The next closest trail dogs are allowed on is the Coast Ridge Rd (a fire road by the Alila resort).

    Campsite #29 is similarly laid out with lots of space. Sites #26 and 28 on the other site of the road are also nice. They aren't as big and open up into a meadow instead of backing up into a hillside with trees.

    Busy Campground with Gorgeous Trees

    This campground is okay (3.5/5 stars) - the sites are close together and it seems to be very popular spot with a lot of families. Our section was fairly quiet but other areas were quite loud. 

    The campground is dog friendly and dogs are allowed on the paved roads. The bathrooms were pretty nice and the showers had hot water. You need to purchase a token for $1 from the park ranger when checking in and that will get you 5 minutes of hot water. 

    We stayed at site 49 and couldn't figure out where other folks put their tents. There was a slightly elevated area in the back left site of the campsite but it didn't look used, was on a slight hill, and looked directly into the campsite next to us so we opted to put our tent on the flat area right by the driveway.
