Laguna Mountain Campground

Got there around noontime on the Friday of Memorial Day and grabbed the last designated lot. Really awesome area. Beautiful sunset over the mountains. Hiked Laguna Mountain and the Falls. Highly recommended. Toilet was also nice.

Nice Campsites. Only 5 sites. Bathrooms. Free. First come first serve

Free and well maintained campsite. I only saw 5 marked campsites. There's a small parking lot and bathroom. Some spots are more convenient for travel trailers, others are not

Drove up for a quick trip from SD. Expected some snow patched but there was a 6” blanket! That’s on me for not checking before hand.

The campground is a nice set up on the lake . If you do head up in the winter, plan to bring a shovel because you will need to clear the site yourself.

Will for sure return in the summer or fall to check it out.

Had an awesome visit view was great from campsite

We have stayed here a few times. It's a long drive down a dirt road to get to Sweetwater Campground where we stay. They seem to keep up with the holes in the road though. There are plenty of places to hike and bike. We had to stop on one of the trails though because there were too many stickers for our dogs feet. The water is stagnant at the falls when we went but it was fun to climb down to the falls. Fire rings and picnic tables and a vault toilet available. Pack in pack out. Please leave it clean!

There are 5 campsites with fire rings and covered picnic tables. You can pull right up to your site and there are bathrooms. The sunrise and sunset were beautiful! You can hear distant animals (cows, chickens, dogs) making noise in the morning which adds to the country side experience.

Just a note, this review is for Sweetwater Campground, which is a part of Laguna Mountain Recreation area. There is also “Laguna Mountain Campground” within a 1/2 mile of this one, too.

Road in is fully paved but can be a bit bumpy at points. Cell service was non existent for my buddy and I who have AT&T and Verizon. Also, recreational shooting is allowed in the area, so be aware.

Pulled in here at 11PM on a Friday night, was worried we wouldn’t be able to find an open spot as there are only 5, but got lucky. Pretty chilly in November, low of about 38.

If you continue another 1/2 mile down the road you will also come across “Laguna Mountain Campground,” I am unsure of how many spots are there, but it’s a good spot to look if Sweetwater is filled up. Seems to have great views too!

This is one of the best campsites I've been to while traveling cross country.

It's a little far from the highway (about 30-40min from the 101) but it's a peaceful drive up. The road on the mountain is paved but can be a little bumpy at times. The GPS had me go farther than I needed it to - once you see the dual signs for Laguna Upper Sweetwater Rec Area, turn left and you'll see the dirt road down to the campsites.

I'm not actually sure if this is a different campsite than the one listed here. However, the road further done was flooded, so proceed further only if you really want to.

The road down into the sites is totally fine. There are 6 sites, all which have a decent bit of privacy and are spaced out well. The sites are clean, and each one has a shaded table which was nice.

It is really buggy here so make sure you're prepared! Had tons of flies swarming my tent. There's also a lot of wildlife here which is nice.

There is 1 bathroom at the start of the road which was pretty clean. No water though.

Didn't do the trails on the mountain, but if you just want a place to camp this place is great. Easy to get to, peaceful and clean.

For anyone visiting Pinnacles, this is a great place to stay nearby. We were there on a weekend and all the spots were taken so we walked in with our tents and set up off the hiking road. The views were great and there are lots of things to explore!

This place is so great! It is difficult to find BLM camping in California and this is a gem!

The road is in prone to mudslides and looked like is was recently cleared of mud in multiple spots. Warning though this is the kind of mud that is like clay and has to be scraped off of wheel wells and undercarriage. We collected quite a bit and the underneath of our RV looks like hundreds of stalactites grew and THAT was on the recently cleared spots! The road itself is paved but very potholed, patched and narrow. Be aware of blind corners on weekends when the traffic increases and people fly up the narrow road!

The campground has big flat parking areas for RVs, vans or tents. The individual spots are spaced out nicely and all seemed to have some shade. Also there are covered picnic tables, fire pits and a bathroom which consists of a clean pit toilet. There is NO water, hook ups, or garbage available so don't forget to bring extra water to extinguish your fire as this is a high risk fire zone. Pack in and pack out!

The days and nights are quiet and very relaxing! Bird and wildlife viewing abundant and hiking trails nearby. 

There is absolutely NO cell reception at the campground or the road in, NO AT&T, NO Verizon, and NO T-Mobile!

Will definitely come here again!

I was here mid Nov 20 for 3 days. Laguna mountain road trail is very strenuous The last leg of the trail(primitive trail) is not easy to follow. Someone has marked the trail with stacked rocks. To the summit is about 4.5 miles from the campground. The falls hike is a gradual incline both ways. There are only about 3 drive in spots and a walk-in spot above the trailhead gate. Restroom is there, I didn't use because of the pandemic. All spots occupied and several in and out hikers and hunters. You can get Verizon signal at the 1 mile mark of Laguna mountain road trail, Its climb though

Too crowded for my liking But I would stay here again.

Really enjoyed this campground. Crazy how the day before it was sunny bright and the next day it started snowing. Best time of my life. There are lots of hiking trails with wonderful scenic views. The trail will take you all around and back probably like a 10 mile hike very well worth it. Great for hunting wild pig, deer, turkey, doves during their season. Lots of wildlife here. There is also a creek at the bottom of the mountain along the trail. This is a great place to explore we came across lots of wildlife tracks and also a beautiful oak tree which a woodpecker was hiding its next meal 😂
