Epic sunsets

This is a great little spot stayed a couple of nights, beautiful views, clean bathroom, cold shower. It’s close to the road and the trains go by. They’re kind of loud but part of the topography.

Great place for boondockers.

We had been boondocking at Joshua Tree BLM South for about a week and needed to come into town to get supplies, empty tanks, etc. So we decided to check out this campground. It was great. Nice view, lot of space, showers (no hot water), trash bins, water spigots (one behind the toilet, 2 more half way between the toilets and the entrance.) $10/night ($8 for vets and seniors) We were there early January 2022. No smell. Some road and train noise, but not bad. It's not level, but not so bad that you'll need to worry about your refrigerator. If you stay at the campground, you can use the dump station at the main campground up the road.

Siten/a no set sites.

Great no frills camping area!

This is a dispersed camping are. NO hook-ups. No water, sewer or electricity. Perfect. What does it have? Pit toilets and showers. Day Use is $7 Overnight camping is $10. I stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the near solitude with only four other campers in sight. Very interesting walks on the shore. Excellent stargazing, and some fabulous sunsets. Park Maintenance keeps the facilities sparkling clean. There is a fresh water spigot behind the toilets too!

Great spot to camp in car

Amazing spot to camp in your car or RV. Tons of stars at night. Road and train tracks nearby, so there is some sound, but after a long day driving there are few better places.
Tons of space in the fall and winter, it is warm in the area and at night, but one is shielded from most of civilizations lights. I paid $10 per night. Apparently vets get discounts.

Interesting place

Stayed one night at site overlooking the Salton Sean. Quite lovely. However, if you walk down to the water's edge, you'll see fish carcasses due to the increasing salinity of the water (and other issues.) There was a nice breeze and there was no smell that others have talked about. There is a rail line nearby but the noise didn't bother us during the night. No specific camping sites but there were picnic tables and most sites seem pretty level.

There are 2 showers and some toilets. They appeared to be fairly decent. Most campers at the campground were in self-contained units so the facilities seemed to be lightly used.

More RVs than tents but both can stay

When we traveled through this area we checked out this as well as Mecca campground. This being the lesser of the two price points at only $10 instead of $20 we considered the difference between the two.

At the time we visited this site the restroom was a pit toilet. Restrooms left something to be desired. The camping area itself did not offer amenities such as hook ups yet a lot of self sustaining vehicles and RV campers were there. We in fact were the only tent campers.

The evening was pleasant and temperatures were moderate. Not a lot of people were moving around the campsite. By morning, the temperatures began to heat up and with it came the flies and smell of death. Flies were everywhere!!! This began to be quite distressing as we were attempting to load up and we dared not even attempt to have breakfast.

I love this area and the very unique history however you have to be willing to arrive late to actually be able to appreciate it without the smell. It is a great place to watch the night skies on a clear night as there are few lights impairing you from seeing all of the stars.

For all my hammock friends I would not recommend this space!!

TIPS:

  • Pack a camping pad for your tent floor the ground here seemed a bit less comfortable for a tent camper because of the materials of the ground.

  • Do not leave your car doors open when packing due to the high volume of flies in the area, you will end up with more passengers than you came with if you do.
