Best Campgrounds near Fish Creek, WI

Peninsula State Park forms the centerpiece of camping options near Fish Creek, Wisconsin, with multiple campgrounds including South Nicolet Bay, North Nicolet Bay, Tennison Bay, Welcker's Point, and Weborg Point. The Door County region supports a range of accommodation types from tent camping to RV sites with hookups, cabins, and glamping opportunities. Wagon Trail Campground provides 145 sites with various amenities including cabins and yurts, while several privately operated campgrounds supplement the state park options.

Camping in the Door County peninsula follows seasonal patterns with most facilities operating from May through October. Peninsula State Park campgrounds require advance reservations, particularly for summer weekends when sites fill months ahead. Newport State Park, Wisconsin's only designated wilderness state park, offers a quieter alternative with more primitive facilities. One visitor noted, "For my first foray into backcountry camping, this was a great place to start. The trails take you by water, through woods, and over the right amount of hills for a first-timer getting used to hauling gear around." Cell service varies throughout the region, with more remote areas having limited coverage. The region experiences cold winters with sites generally closing by mid-October except for year-round options at Newport State Park.

Waterfront access represents a significant draw for campers in the Fish Creek area, with many sites offering views of Green Bay or Lake Michigan. The wooded campsites at Peninsula State Park provide varying levels of privacy, though multiple reviewers mention that sites can be close together during peak season. A camper described the area as having "tons to do in Door County" with activities ranging from hiking and biking to kayaking. Several developed campgrounds feature modern amenities including showers, flush toilets, and electric hookups, while Newport State Park offers more primitive facilities for those seeking solitude. Visitors frequently mention the convenience of Fish Creek's location for accessing Door County attractions while maintaining access to outdoor recreation opportunities within the parks themselves.

    Washington Island Campground

    Must stay!!

This was our second stay. Stayed on site 70 both times. We had a 35’ trailer last year and 42’ fifth wheel this year. The ferry ride was easy to navigate and when we arrived we were able to just drive right on. Even with our 13’2” clearance they easily accommodated us. Campground check in was easy and smooth, owners were friendly and gave us tips for navigating into our site with a big rig. Overall it’s very quiet and relaxing on the island with plenty of nature things to do. Visit School House Beach (don’t take the rocks!), the lavender farm and for a few extra bucks have seafood at Sailors Pub on the water. We will definitely put this campground in our regular rotation of places to camp.

    J.W. Wells State Park Campground

    Beautiful and peaceful

Really nice sites and you can see the water from most of them. Some sites were muddy but I think it was mostly from how busy it was over Labor Day. Facilities are clean and the camp hosts are so sweet (they have matching vests and serve coffee every morning). Really nice recreational activities (basketball, tetherball, horse shoes) and a trail leading to the picnic shelter and sandy swimming beach.

    North Bay Shore Park

    Beautiful

Right on the shores of Lake Michigan Most sites have asphalt pads and there is water and electric at the site There is also a dump station on the way in, which was clean and easy to access The sites are fairly close with not much privacy This side of the lake is very Mari so there is no beachfront at all, for people with a boat and wanting to launch it’s perfect but for rock hounds and beach walkers like me not so great. Not much hiking around either.

    Newport State Park Campground

    Miss Land

We hiked into site 7 and were delighted by the trees covered in moss. The site had a food safe and pit toilet. It rained the whole time, but we loved it and want to return.

    Fox County Park Campground

    Beach sites

One could camp right on the beach here. The beach is fantastic. There is water available. Cell service is ok. The toilets are repulsive. The sites are overcrowded, thankfully we did not have neighbors. There is traffic noise and a bright light above the toilets means no one will trip on the way to the potty, but you won’t see any stars either.

    Wagon Trail Campground

    Lady slippers everywhere !

This was our first private campground experience and it was marvelous! The sites were private and spacious. The showers were impeccable. There is even a dish washing station. We enjoyed the playground, the game room, lounge and yoga in the morning. The staff are all friendly and friendly helpful.

    Big Lake Campground

Great Family and Dog friendly RV resort

Clean bathrooms. Not overly fancy, but lots of sites and the two families that run this resort are super nice and accommodating. We felt welcomed like family and had multiple interactions with them. Within a minute of Lake Michigan.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

Great State Park Campground Near Town

Overall this camp was a great experience. There are nice trails that run by the water. The sites were nice with fire ring, table and bench. The sites were near one another but vegetation between to give some barrier. The mosquitoes were pretty heavy in late July. There was one shower house that seemed to be pretty busy most of the time. There was also a child's playground with lots of space. Overall it was a great place to visit and check out the area.
