Welcker's Point Campground — Peninsula State Park

Most campers arrive at Welcker's Point expecting a typical state park experience, but the iron-laden water that flows orange from the taps signals this spot operates by its own rules. Located at the north end of Peninsula State Park, this 80-site campground draws tent campers and smaller RVs to wooded sites that balance shade with airflow from Green Bay.

The atmosphere here leans toward the rustic side of state park camping. David M. notes "I didn't hear a peep from anyone after 10pm," reflecting the campground's quieter character compared to busier sections of the park. Dense tree cover creates natural privacy between sites, though campers report encountering more spiders than at other Peninsula State Park locations. Cell service proves spotty to nonexistent for most carriers, with phones frequently dropping into SOS mode.

The campground provides direct access to Peninsula State Park's extensive trail system, making it a solid base for cyclists and hikers. A sandy beach offers swimming and water activities, while the boat launch serves paddlers, though the steep, gravelly access can challenge kayakers. Shower facilities feature individual rooms with doors, and flush toilets supplement the standard pit toilets found throughout the area. An on-site host manages operations, and firewood is available for purchase.

Site selection matters here. Campers seeking more seclusion should consider spots closer to the boat launch, while those wanting easier road access might prefer sites nearer the entrance. The water's iron content affects both drinking water and shower experiences, appearing orange but remaining safe to consume. For additional camping options in the region, campgrounds around Ephraim provide alternatives just minutes away.

Reserve well ahead during peak season, as Peninsula State Park maintains high demand year-round.

Visitors often highlighted spacious, shaded sites with bay access and quiet nighttime atmosphere. Numerous guests pointed out clean facilities, though some noted iron-stained water and older shower buildings.

Decent Campground, But There Are Better Within The Park

Stayed here over Labor Day weekend 2025. This was my first time staying at Welcker’s Point, however I’ve been to Peninsula State Park many times over the years. This campground is smaller than some of the other ones like Tennison Bay. It has about 80ish sites total. There’s one shower building and a couple bathroom buildings. The showers are the new style where each shower gets its own room/door. The water here is loaded with iron and comes out looking orange, even the well water for drinking. It didn’t taste bad, but it definitely looked gross in a water bottle. There’s a lot of spiders at this campground, more than other campgrounds at the park. The sites don’t have much for privacy, but it’s better than a parking lot.

Overall, if it was between this campground and not going at all, I’d pick this campground for sure. If you have other options within the park, I’d probably choose one of those instead.

Site 85 had absolutely zero T-Mobile and Verizon signal. Our phones were in SOS Mode. Brought the Starlink dish, but the tree cover was too thick for it to work.

Nice, quiet non-electric campground

I recently spent 3 days car camping with my tent and bike at Welker's Point campground.  It has easy access to the bike trails in Peninsula State Park. Most of the fellow campers were in tents, although there were a few pop-ups and RVs. I didn't hear a peep from anyone after 10pm, which is a nice change from some other campsites I've visited. The pit toilets are better than most, the facilities with running water and flush toilets are clean as are the shower sites.

Don't plan on having any cell phone reception with AT&T. 90% of the time I was at my campsite my phone was in SOS mode. You need to drive out to the park entrance to get reliable reception.

Eagle's Bluff lighthouse (about 1 mile away) is currently (Aug 2025) closed for renovations.

Nice and quiet

Nice and quiet, smaller campground within the Peninsula State Park. These sites are non-electric/no hookups. The dump station and water fill is near Tennison Bay Campground.

There are flush toilets and showers that could use a remodel or a deep cleaning. You’re really close to the bay here, and the Sunset Bike Trail goes right alongside this campground.

There’s a host on site, water, trash and recycling. Cell service is weak but there.

Nice tent campground, great location.

This is in the middle of Door county, centrally located for exploring all Door County has to offer. We were tent camping and our site, I forget the number, as it was years ago, was perfect. Had shade for our tent, and sun as needed. Hung up our hammocks and read books as we listened to the waves crashing.

Door County Must See

I don't think there has been a time where we went to Door County without visiting Peninsula! It is kind of a family tradition. It's wonderful in any season, but fall is my favorite with the lookout and all the beautiful trees!

Summer camping and kayaking

A very nice beach, plenty of campgrounds, relatively clean bathrooms considering you’re camping. Very pretty, lots of hiking and biking trails. If you are planning on kayaking in the lake, our little kayaks could barely take it it was difficult paddling. Very nice park overall, but I wish the boat launch was more kayak friendly. Steep and a lot of gravel. The park overall was also very crowded, but that’s expected with a popular state park like this.

Great State Park for activities, camping, boating, fishing.

This park is highly sought after.  Electric and non electric sites available, if you are camping RV style , you may want to check out the site you would like to reserve to be sure it will accommodate your vehicle.  Beautiful park, to hike, bike and explore.  If you book at different times of the year, you will see The Park, change with the seasons, different blooms through out the park.  Different wild life, you are usually going to spot at least one species during your stay.
