\--> The Dryfork and Blackwater Rivers combine nearby, the pedestrian cable suspension bridge to Hendricks is less than half a mile downstream, the Fernow Experimental Forest is just a mile downstream, and the Monongahela national forest and huge unlogged forests are all around! And Brooklyn Heights Rd. is also a waterfall mecca after any decent rains including right here on the property and very nearby.

\--> Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Campground includes 35 acres of unlogged wilderness forest with roads, trails and 2100 feet of riverfront on the Dry Fork River.

\--> The camp includes 15 camping sites (firepits, slabwood benches, parking, and future picnic tables), 5 primitive shelter cabin sites (10x\`12 lofted barn cabins with hasp for your padlock), and a 10 spacious short term RV sites near the river (RV's 30 foot or less recommended).

\--> Water spigots are available for general use by the office cabin and provide water from a mountain spring water source and must be considered non-potable - so boil to drink or bring your own water for consumption. Water spigots also on location for RV1 - RV4.

\--> Also a couple of electric outlets are available for general use by the office cabin near sector B.

\--> Waterfalls, creeks, kayak drop points, swimming, tubing, hiking, fishing, and water recreation abounds.

## Overview

Gatewood Group Campground is ideally located just two miles from Spruce Knob Lake in the Monongahela Forest, creating an ideal base camp for hikes and wildlife watching.

## Recreation

With over 500 miles of hiking trails, visitors are have many options in the forest, including the Gatewood Nature Trail.   
  
With some of the most beautiful overlooks in the area, Spruce Knob Lake offers fishing and boating opportunities (fish are stocked). No swimming is allowed.   
  
Unobstructed views of the night sky bring stargazer clubs to this spot all summer long.

## Facilities

Three group sites are available that can accommodate up to 20 people each. Picnic tables and campfire rings are provided, as are accessible pit toilets. Drinking water is NOT available in the campground.

## Natural Features

The campground is situated on a ridge in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia. The Monongahela Forest extends over the north central highlands of the state, encompassing many of the region's highest peaks. Elevations range from 1,000-4,863 feet, and Gatewood sits at 4,300 feet.   
  
Variations in terrain and precipitation have created one of the most ecologically diverse national forests in the country.

Spruce Knob, West Virginia's highest peak, lies just 9 miles from the campground. It overlooks forested ridges and grassy open pastures. Visitors can drive or hike to the top. Rock climbing is also a popular activity.

Spruce Knob Lake Campground is tucked in a beautiful hardwood forest less than a mile from Spruce Knob Lake. The campground provides a peaceful setting with easy access to boating on the lake and hiking through the mountainous region. Spruce Knob is the highest peak in West Virginia. A stone and steel observation tower is perched atop the peak, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the area. Recreation Sixty miles of picturesque hiking trails crisscross the region, and the campground provides direct access to the pleasant 1-mile Big Bend River Loop. Trout fishing is available nearby at 25-acre Spruce Knob Lake, and in surrounding creeks. Facilities at the lake include a small boat ramp, parking area and vault toilets. A wooden pier along the shoreline provides barrier-free access to the lake.No swimming is allowed. Facilities The campground has accessible vault toilets and a solar-powered system for drinking water. No electric hookups are available. Firewood is for sale on-site. Natural Features The campground is situated on a wooded ridge overlooking the lake. To the east is 4,863' Spruce Knob. The vegetation atop Spruce Knob has adapted to a harsh, exposed environment. One-sided red spruce deformed by constant exposure to strong westerly winds cling to the high rocky ridges. Blueberry and huckleberry plants cover the ground. Due to its location, the campground may experience cold fogs and strong winds year-round. Welcome to Fulks Run, Virginia! 

We have a beautiful, six acre get-away campsite in the heart of the George Washington National Forest, which means you can hike, hunt, bike, and do anything else the National Forest has to offer. 15- minutes from the Town of Broadway & 25-minutes from the City of Harrisonburg.  A PERFECT glamping spot for children or those new to camping who just want to relax while feeling safe, close to nature and in a central location for many nearby activities. 

Just south over the mountain is Rawley Springs a place where many go for other outdoor activities including Off-Roading trails for 4x4 Vehicles.  A few minutes down the road is the infamous Fulks Run Grocery store home to Turner Hams! Tons of Wineries within 30-45 minutes away.

On your way to the campsite, you can stop at the local Liberty gas station (less than 10 minutes away) and pick up firewood or anything else you might need! Then, you can just drive right up to the campsite and park your vehicle! 

We are continuing to build out our own walking trails on the site as well. Our cedar chest inside the tent contains board games and nature books for kids. The site contains almost anything you can think of in case you forgot to pack something! Toiletries, sanitizer, water, coffee, all provided. 

Fall asleep to the sound of running water from a nearby creek and enjoy gorgeous views of the mountains on both sides.

Guest Access:
This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature! 

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed or a queen-size bunk bed (see photos for the exact setup). The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that___s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, and 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs.

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation. 

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

Interaction with Guests:
Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location on the property. 

If a CampKeeper submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the CampKeeper___s property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Reservation Modifications/Cancellations: Please note the terms of the cancelation policy as they are outlined in your reservation confirmation on Airbnb. Your CampKeeper is unable to change or cancel your reservation on your behalf, and they are unable to waive any cancellation fees (if applicable). Other Things to Note:
Thank you for keeping the music and noise to a normal level after dark, for not leaving trash on the grounds around the property, for not target practicing and parking in the parking area to the right side just before you reach the tent. 

Note: You will lose phone service about 15 mins out from the site but your GPS should still work. If it does not, you'll want to be on Little Dry River Road for about 5 miles, past Toms Park Lane on your right, the site will be on your left past the black mailbox.

Gandy Creek Dispersed Camping

I grow mushrooms and sell them at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market. The camping area is about an acre and is beside the house. Park under a canopy of red cedar trees which are bug resistant so very few mosquitoes. Two fireplaces, first come first serve. No neighbors yet close to Harrisonburg. Free firewood. No curfews.



Hawk Nest Mushroom Farm

At 4,863 feet above sea level, Spruce Knob is West Virginia's highest peak. From this rugged alpine peak, you can view grassy openings and pastures or look down on forested ridges as far as the eye can see. The vegetation here has adapted to a harsh environment. One-sided red spruce deformed by constant exposure to strong westerly winds cling to the high rocky ridges. Blueberry and huckleberry plants hug the ground. Spruce Knob Tower - A stone and steel observation tower sits atop the Knob, providing visitors with a vantage point from which to enjoy a 360 degree view. The half-mile Whispering Spruce Trail circles the knob and provides panoramic views. Interpretive signs along the gentle, graveled trail describe the high country vegetation, geology and animal life. Vault toilets, picnic tables, grills and vehicle parking complete the facilities available at the tower.

Seneca Shadows Campground overlooks Seneca Rocks and is surrounded by mountains on both the east and west. Hiking and nature study at Seneca Rocks are just a couple of the popular activities in the area. The North Fork South Branch Potomac River is nearby, making fishing a popular pastime. Two local caves beckon ambitious explorers, and the 900-foot high Seneca Rocks can be viewed from most campsites. Recreation Rock climbers and hikers adore Seneca Rocks. Both sports will take visitors to the top of the impressive rocky tops with rewarding views of the mountains and valleys beyond. The hiking trail can be accessed across the street from the Seneca Shadows Campground. Seneca Rocks Visitor Center provides a catch-and-release fishing area, viewing platforms, educational displays and a gift shop. Facilities Seneca Shadows is a modern campground with flush toilets, lantern posts, picnic tables and campfire rings. The large facility has a selection of walk-to tent sites, standard RV sites and tent-only group sites. Loop C has electric hookups. Firewood is available for sale on-site. Natural Features The campground sits in the river valley within the Monongahela National Forest, which extends over the north central highlands of the state, straddling many of the region's highest peaks.
