Best Campgrounds near Shreve, OH

Campgrounds near Shreve, Ohio range from established family-friendly resorts to quieter riverside camping areas, with multiple options for tent, RV, and cabin accommodations throughout the Mohican River region. Lake Wapusun RV Resort features 316 sites within Shreve's boundaries, while additional campgrounds like Whispering Hills, Toodik Family Campground, and Mohican State Park lie within a short drive. Most facilities maintain seasonal operations, typically running from April through October, though a few like Wally World offer year-round availability.

The camping season in this part of Ohio generally peaks between May and September, with several campgrounds enforcing quiet hours to manage noise levels. As one visitor at Lake Wapusun noted, "Our campsite was a perfect mix of trees, shade, and space," though site quality and maintenance standards vary across facilities. Many campgrounds require reservations, particularly for holiday weekends when facilities reach capacity. Water access represents a significant draw for the area, with the Mohican River providing opportunities for canoeing, fishing, and riverside camping at several locations including Mohican Wilderness and Mohican Reservation Campground.

Several visitors mentioned the family-oriented nature of campgrounds in the region, particularly at Whispering Hills Jellystone, which features amenities specifically designed for children. "They have so many activities for kids and families. They have crafts, swimming, a lake for fishing, newly chip and sealed roads, jump pads, hiking trails, a creek to explore and play in," according to feedback from The Dyrt. Campers seeking more natural settings might prefer sites along the Mohican River, which offer fishing and water recreation opportunities. Many facilities provide a mix of wooded and open sites, with varying levels of privacy. Road access to most established campgrounds is suitable for larger RVs, though some narrow county roads in the area may prove challenging for bigger rigs, especially when approaching from certain directions.

    Mt Gilead State Park Campground

    Small, quiet campground

We like this small campground, it works well for us. Our pad was pretty level and not hard to back into with a small camper. however, a lot of the pads are at 90° angles instead of 45° so it can be harder for a larger camper back in. The full hook up side the sites are really tight together. The electric only sits are spread out a little more. Some have decent shade while others have none at all. Our site was really nice and had space for a tent or you could hang from a hammock. Great camp store, playgrounds, frisbee golf, hiking paths and small lake.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Affordable

The lots are nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don’t have a well compacted area for your tt/rv. Would be nice to have bathroom built on the campground. Have to walk to the baseball field to use the bathrooms. Overall had a good time with my family.

    Findley State Park Campground

    Very nice campground.

Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you’re planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance.
