Mohican State Park Campground and several nearby private campgrounds welcome pets at most sites throughout the area. Leashed dogs are permitted on campsites at Mohican State Park, Whispering Hills Campground, Lake Wapusun RV Resort, and Mohican Wilderness. Most properties provide standard amenities including fire rings, picnic tables, and water access, with many campgrounds featuring full hookup sites for RVs alongside tent camping areas. Seasonal availability varies with Mohican State Park open year-round while most private campgrounds operate from April through October. Whispering Hills Jellystone RV Park's well-stocked fishing pond and large dog-friendly areas provide excellent recreation for campers with pets, though seasonal campers have reported inconsistent rule enforcement regarding visitor behavior in common areas.

Mohican Reservation Campground and Toodik Family Campground offer riverside sites where pets can enjoy water access along the Mohican River. Both locations feature wooded campsites with sufficient space between neighboring sites, though ground conditions can become muddy during rainy periods. Most campgrounds in the area enforce standard pet policies requiring dogs to remain leashed outside designated areas, cleaned up after, and not left unattended. The nearby trails in Mohican State Forest provide excellent hiking opportunities for dogs and their owners. Several campgrounds mention specific quiet hours when dogs should not be creating excessive noise. The bathhouse facilities vary significantly between properties, with some campers noting dated but clean facilities at Toodik, while Wally World maintains newer shower houses that receive regular maintenance.

      Silver Springs Campground

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

      Salt Fork State Park Campground

The right side of the fork

Dog park!! and right on the lake!! Found this by mistake on our way out, and the dogs loved it. Access to lake, a beach, well fenced. I would give Salt Fork SP extra stars for this one, especially if there were campsites co-located.

Camp ground is easily accessible being just 6 miles from I70, leaving the convenience of Cambridge and city amenities close by while allowing for great trails and solitude. Stayed in campground A, and the front end has little shade, but being here in autumn was perfect for lots of sunshine on site. Sites with trees for tree tents is minimal. Drinking fountains are dispersed fairly frequently throughout campground, but RV hookups with water were limited during my stay. Shower houses and comfort houses all have flushers and sinks.

TICK WARNING!!!! After a morning hike down wooded Trail, we spent A LONG TIME pulling ticks from dogs...even though the temps were in the 30's overnight and everyone was treated with flea & tick protection.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

    Guide to Shreve

Campgrounds near Shreve, Ohio sit within the glaciated Allegheny Plateau region, characterized by rolling hills and steep ravines carved by the Mohican River. The area features mixed hardwood forests dominated by oak, maple, and hemlock trees. Weather conditions can fluctuate dramatically during camping season, with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F during the day but dropping to the 50s at night, making layered clothing essential for comfort.

    What to do

Primitive hiking access: Mohican State Park offers free hike-in camping sites about a mile from the main areas. "There are 10 free camp sites for backpackers in Mohican, each is about a mile hike in, no vehicles can reach these sites. There are 4 on the mountain bike trail and 6 on the horse trails, first come first serve, no reservations," notes John H. about Mohican State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple campgrounds provide stocked fishing ponds with catch-and-release policies. At Lake Wapusun RV Resort, Joe F. reports: "There's 3 or 4 nice fishing holes (one 23 acre lake) some trails off back side take you around by stage then to another large pond... Overall the atmosphere was awesome, scenery beautiful, and fishing was great."

Water recreation: The Mohican River offers kayaking, tubing, and canoeing options from several campgrounds. At Mohican Reservation Campground & Canoeing, Terry R. shares, "Can go canoeing on the nearby river with canoe rental available and shuttle pickup at the end of your journey back to where you started."

    What campers like

Indoor amenities: For campers concerned about weather, some campgrounds offer indoor facilities. Gregory L. appreciates the setup at Wally World: "The store is nice, the sites are pretty level, the pool is decent, and the staff here are pleasant. The campground itself is nestled in the bend of the Mohican river, so most sites have a river view even if you aren't on a Riverside site."

Secluded spots: Some campgrounds offer more isolated options. Jacob W. notes about Mohican Adventures Campground, "Me and a friend went in the middle of the week and as a result practically had the entire Buzzard section of the Primitive tent camping section to ourselves."

Winter camping access: For off-season visitors, Renée C. mentions about Mohican State Park Campground: "First come first serve in the winter. One heated bathroom with a shower is open in the winter. Absolutely beautiful & great trails. There is nice several mile through trail that goes from the dam area following the river to the primitive camping area."

    What you should know

Site selection: When camping at Mohican Wilderness, choose sites carefully. Andrea F. recommends, "We have camped here 3 times now and even though it's a large park the sites are huge so you still feel like you can kick back and relax. Quiet neighbors and friendly staff plus everything is mowed and well maintained."

Water quality: Some campgrounds have variable water quality. Joe F. advises when visiting Lake Wapusun: "I'd have a filter for water also. People complained about dump station too but it's because you have to back up to it. Not a big deal."

Seasonal camper experience: Be aware that some campgrounds treat weekend and seasonal campers differently. Jason C. warns about Whispering Hills Jellystone: "We have camped here for at least 3 years as weekenders and we were treated very well, but it is night and day difference between being a seasonal and being a weekend camper."

    Tips for camping with families

Dog friendly campgrounds near Shreve: Most campgrounds welcome pets with proper restrictions. Kayla S. from Whispering Hills Jellystone RV Park notes, "There is plenty of activities for families and the dog park was a bonus."

Winter safety: For camping during colder months, Andrea F. shares this tip about Mohican State Park: "Camping in the off season is our favorite time of year. This particular park has potable water on by the dump station and the dump station is open. The water at the full hook up sites are turned off."

Entertainment options: Family-oriented campgrounds provide built-in activities. Ryan H. from Whispering Hills Campground shares, "My family and I had a Blast at Whispering Hills. So many activities for the kids to do and my kids were able to walk around freely without us having to be right on top of them. The jumping pad, mini golf, fishing, basketball and all the other activities were great."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Several campgrounds have challenging terrain for RVs. At Toodik Family Campground Cabin & Canoeing, Maria K. notes: "Nice clean and friendly staff the only complaint is that the sites are not flat."

Navigation challenges: Some GPS systems route poorly to campgrounds in this area. Gregory L. advises about Wally World: "Getting here proved to be tricky, as it seems all of the GPS apps and my Garmin routed us on a county road that is not fit for RVs of any type. To find this place, search for 1 Wally Bridge, Loudonville, OH and then follow Wally Road a few miles to the campground."

Electrical capacity: Power limitations affect what appliances can run simultaneously. Joe F. shares about Lake Wapusun: "Our site was a normal gfi outlet and couldn't run a/c and air fryer no biggie we did wings over a fire."
