Joshua trees 50 miles closer to LA than the Joshua Tree National Park!

This is 2.5 acres of protected Joshua Tree lands in the Antelope Valley north of LA, between the snowy Tehachapi Mountains, and the rolling green foothills of the also-snowy San Gabriel Mountains. My first time out there I saw BOTH ENDS of a rainbow in front of the snowy Tehachapis!! Super dark skies, and a million stars at night. It feels like the wild west out here. Think long dirt roads, tumbleweeds, bones, and maybe some old bullet shells (there's no shooting allowed on the property anymore).

The property itself is along a dirt "road" called Avenue C, but I'd be shocked if you encountered anyone driving along there. Except possibly another group of campers. This land used to be the domain of the Ketanemuk tribe, which I think means People From The East. In the summer they would go up and hunt and get pine nuts in the Tehachapi Mountains, and acorns from the oak trees in the San Gabriels. 

It's about a 20 minute drive from the town of Neenach (pronounced Nee-nack), where there's a general store and a cafe. They make a great breakfast burrito. A few minutes from the State Poppy Reserve, which blooms in the spring with miles of California poppies. If you have a larger group or event in mind, get in touch! We can figure out how to accommodate you.

After many requests, we have finally opened a section of the ranch where you can camp using your own gear or some of ours. Have a BBQ cookout, make some S'Mores while telling tales around the propane fire-ring, then cuddle up in a teepee or yurt tent. Once the sun rises, you can cook up some farm-fresh eggs you bought for breakfast and enjoy the beautiful Angeles Forest around us!

This LA based bohemian homestead farm is a great camping stop. We have 20 hillside acres nestled in the hills of Sunland / North Los Angeles, CA We have tent only sites with picnic benches, flat soft campsites, no fire pits, but amazing views of the valley and mountains. Great for a short getaway in the LA area.

Please note: here are no car camping or RV sites. The parking is on a hill log and you walk in your gear. Also note no showers provided.

Jackson Flats is a group camping facility located next to beautiful Grassy Hollow Visitor Center, which holds numerous nature programs, hikes and activities on Saturdays during the summer. The peaceful setting, in the Angeles National Forest, is a short drive northeast of the bustling Los Angeles metropolitan area. Recreation Campers can enjoy hiking, biking and relaxing in the shade. A few short trails loop around the campground and a connector trail leads to the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail stretches from Mexico through California, Oregon and Washington. Additionally, the Angeles National Forest boasts 557 miles of hiking and equestrian trails. All trails, excluding the Pacific Crest Trail, allow mountain biking as well. Facilities Each tent-only site is located about 600 feet from the centrally-located parking area near the campground entrance. Campers must park and carry their gear to their site. Each site is equipped with large picnic tables, a campfire circle, grills and bear-proof food storage lockers. There is no water on site. Please bring all the water you will need for your stay. Natural Features At an elevation 7,500 feet, Jackson Flats sits in grassy spaces among groves of pine and fir trees, with average summer daytime temperatures in the low 80s. Nights are cool. In Angeles National Forest, vegetation ranges from chaparral and oak at lower elevations to pine forests at higher altitudes. Elevations range from 1,200 to 10,000 feet. The endangered California condor inhabits the forest. The Least Bells vireo and the Southwestern Willow flycatcher are two migratory birds that visitors enjoy spotting in the area. Other local inhabitants include the Arroyo toad, mountain yellow-legged frog, the mountain lion and the two-striped garter snake. Nearby Attractions Hop in the car and drive along the Angeles Crest Highway, a scenic route that meanders through oak thickets, chaparral, high desert landscapes and pine forests. ADA Access: N
