    Tehachapi Mountain Park

    Lovely

    We needed a place to stay overnight while traveling cross country. We were pretty weary travelers on this day and we got there about an hour after sunset. 

    This was a climb up a narrow road. When we came in, we did not see the payment center, but we found it readily on our way out. I blame our being in the dark and being tired on not seeing it coming in. 

    We woke up in the most beautiful location surrounded by tall trees and hearing turkeys gobbling. It was so fun. The weather is so much better than in the valley, and we do not have A/C so the altitude is great for us. 

    There are vault toilets and they are not immaculate but also not terrible to use. Many roads were blocked off so first come, first served sites were sparse but on a week day we only saw one other camp site occupied where we were. We parked a few spots away to provide privacy but the sites are large. The site was amazing, the price was great, the weather was great and we would definitely stay here in Tehachapi again - and for more than one night.

    San Elijo State Beach Campground

    So close to the beach, so noisy!

    Amazing to be so close tot he ocean! This site (70) is so close to the ocean, we can see it and hear it from the site. The downside is that we are backing onto to HWY 101 and there’s tons of traffic, foot traffic and walking traffic on the park. BUT, you are right next to the ocean!!!! Also, this is the part of the beach where you can bring dogs. It’s amazing!!! Water at every 2-3 sites and trash containers near the site. Friendly staff. Pricey but… you are at the ocean 🌊

    Jalama Beach County Park remains one of those"bucket list" California coastal spots that never fails to deliver—especially if you come prepared for the elements. We recently returned from another fantastic stay, and as an avid RVer and the founder of Hitched4fun.com, I’m always testing how gear holds up in real-world conditions. Jalama is the ultimate testing ground.

    The Atmosphere& Amenities

    The park is famous for its"Jalama Burger" at the onsite cafe, and it still lives up to the hype—the Jalama Burger with cheese is a must-order for dinner. The little camp store is exceptionally well-stocked; they clearly understand their audience, carrying all the necessities you might have overlooked while packing.

    Pro-Tip: Managing the Wind& Connectivity

    If you’ve been here before, you know the wind is a constant companion. While it makes for a chilly evening, it’s a dream for kite flying. We had a blast with our HQ Flapping Willie Worm kite, which handled the regular Jalama gusts perfectly.

    For those of us who need to stay connected while off-grid, the geography here can make cell service a challenge. I utilized our Starlink RV Pole kit to get our Standard 4 X dish up high and clear of obstructions, which provided seamless speeds. To round out the setup, I deployed our Deluxe 22-foot Heavy Duty Fiberglass Flagpole. Despite the steady ocean breeze, the heavy-duty fiberglass stayed sturdy and gave our site a great sense of"home."

    Final Verdict

    We will definitely be back. My biggest piece of advice? Plan ahead. Reservations at Jalama fill up almost as soon as they open. If you can snag a spot, it’s a premier RVing experience that offers a true escape.

    Orangeland RV Park

    Works Well for Disneyland

    Our stay has been overall very nice. With campground is in an urban setting, so there is some traffic noise that comes with that, but it wasn't too bad. Very clean and well maintained. Nice staff. Disneyland is 12 minutes. Angles Stadium maybe 3. Can easily walk to a ball game if you wish. This isn't the kind of park that we normally stay at, but it was perfect for our needs in this case.

    Malibu Beach RV Park

    Bugs

    Not ideal for roof top camping or tent camping due to cockroaches being EVERYWHERE. Pill bugs all over the bathroom. Rooftop tents unable to pay for different areas of camp ground even though our rig has the same amenities as a "rental" van. Saw several old pop up campers that were essentially decaying.

    Employees were nice, cute dog, and cute outpost. They have laundry, water, etc.

    Mackerricher State Park Campground

    Availability

    State park site showed zero availability. However drove in, tons of spots open, park rangers extremely helpful. New showers and bathrooms. Fire pits, bear boxes, picnic tables. Can see the ocean from our Surfwood spot!

    Outdoorsy Yosemite

    Great Location

    A great location at the South entrance of Yosemite NP. The Staff were so friendly and helpful. Prices are very reasonable for laundry. The sites are well spaced.

    Tuttle Creek Campground — Alabama Hills

    Amazing views! Roomy spots.

    Plenty of great spots with amazing views of Mt Whitney and the sierras. Not much shade in camp spots but each of them are roomy and have a fire pit/grill. There’s also a lantern hook. Our site had a nice tree for welcome shade on the afternoon heat. Adult toilets and trash containers. Also a dump station. 10$ honor system. You can pay cash or with a CC through the recreation.gov app. Scam the QR code from the app when you get here. 5 minute drive fe Alabama hills (movie road). Great quiet spot. We loved it. We can hear the Tuttle creek from our site but cannot access it.
