Amazing, never been so far from civilization

Came in from the South, 10 miles in bear Left (stay to the Sheephole wilderness boundary).  Several dispersed sites along the way.  I went in without the camper another 10 miles and did turn about when the sand began getting deep (WK2 Trailhawk), I think the other comments came in from the North.

Nice desert camping

We stayed one night here and enjoyed the beautiful sunset and sunrise. Nice, big campsites and well maintained facility. We made the mistake of taking the dirt road through the preserve from the North- we do not recommend! It was such bad washboard it took 2 hours to go 15 miles. Save yourself and…

Great place for astrophotography

Main Amboy Crater Parking Lot does not allow overnight camping, but their overflow parking area does. Overflow parking is asphalt but has dirt edges you can pitch a tent on. Otherwise, there were dirt areas we camped at. Gets crowded during new moon weekends, and can get windy.

Had AT&T…

Snagged the last open spot!

This wasn't my first time in Joshua Tree. And, admittedly, I was just passing though this time around.

But White Tank was super convenient because I snagged the last site a little before noon and was then able to head back down into Twentynine Palms to stock up on supplies and get some mobile…

Perfect place for a stopover

Dates & Weather: March 13/14 2021. Slight hail storm the first night and temps stayed in the 30’s all night. 1/4 of snow on the car and about an inch on the dunes in the morning, was 60° & sunny during the day

Road & Address: was fine for any vehicle, I have AWD but there were small…

Sportsman’s Club, CA

Located in Twentynine Palms California, the campground is only ten minutes away from Joshua Tree National Park. The sites are flat. It’s essentially a dirt parking lot with hook ups. The host was nice and accommodating. They provide firewood for purchase and all the WiFi information upon arrival.…

Windy Wonderland!

During the warmer months, the wind gets so intense! Gusts up to 70 mph at times. Be sure to hunker down and put away your folding chairs 😅

Top of Kelso Dunes or bust!

Spent several days here with my puppy Boomerz just beyond the dispersed campground area under one of the big power towers. Super flat and nice and quiet. The star gazing is amazing. No city lights. Lots of Cactus and maybe a Desert Tortoise sighting. The Kelso dunes are no joke. 600’ climb in…

A desert oasis

This has been the only readily available campsite amid the constant campsite closures. It is first-come, first serve. You can camp at any existing spot with a fire ring (most being about a mile past the trailhead), and enjoy the dark night sky while being pretty spread out from other folks. Also, a…

Don’t do it unless you have 4 wheel drive

Seriously. Please don’t try it. We did not even find a spot to camp, and got stuck and the sand. Just go somewhere else. It’s not worth it.
