Awesome, private, great stars and great views!

This was was one of the favorite spots I stayed at during a cross-country road trip from California to Florida in February 2021. It's quite a long drive once you get into Mojave to reach this site, and it's a bit of a bumpy drive. I was in a two-wheel drive van and it was totally fine, but…

Typical KOA

It was a typical KOA. Clean bathrooms and showers. Nice store. The pool was awesome. It was graveled so low dirt and dust. It was a 106 so there wasn’t much to do. The cable was good and WiFi was good.

An experience that will never be forgotten

The best camping experience I’ve ever had. Sites are nothing more than fire rings and small clearings among the various desert flora that stretch for miles. Perfect for those who want a truly primitive experience. Rock formations litter the hundreds of miles of flat desert providing countless…

Quiet desert spot

Pleasantly surprised by the well maintained spots, cleanliness and very quiet. We just stopped for a night while passing through. Easy to find and get to. My son loved all the rocks for his RC crawler.

One of my favs

I love this place so much. It’s far enough from town to have an amazing but close to a gas station if needed.

Not a ton of traffic at night. Sadly this place was victim of the recent fire and a lot of the awesome Joshua trees are black and look dead. I still love it.

Desert solitude

I stayed 1 night (5/7/21) in a roof top tent on my Jeep. I didn’t see anyone else at any of the other sites that I checked out & only had one vehicle drive by in the morning as I was packing up. Very quiet & peaceful, though it was quite windy throughout the night. Lots of burnt Joshua…

Diamond in the Desert

Incredible spot. The coordinates from this page took me right to what I think was the best campsite, although there were several more further up the road. A couple sites have big jumbo rocks, which were great wind protection and perfect to climb up on to watch the sunset. Lots of beautiful joshua…

We shall return

Long road in need of grading. Glad we stuck with it once we arrived. Privacy, fire rings, standing grills, table, but most importantly quiet. A few sites have fantastic views. No running water, so we brought our own. The pit toilets are very clean. We preferred this to Hole in the Wall down…

Great place for astrophotography

Main Amboy Crater Parking Lot does not allow overnight camping, but their overflow parking area does. Overflow parking is asphalt but has dirt edges you can pitch a tent on. Otherwise, there were dirt areas we camped at. Gets crowded during new moon weekends, and can get windy.

Had AT&T…

Incredible Find! Sand Dunes

We left Death Valley and needed a place to crash with two small kids and an RV, we saw some dunes with a couple campers on a ridge and decided to check it out. It’s actually BLM land for OHV vehicles which meant loads of fun watching dune buggies on the dunes, tons of space and incredible night…

Perfect place for a stopover

Dates & Weather: March 13/14 2021. Slight hail storm the first night and temps stayed in the 30’s all night. 1/4 of snow on the car and about an inch on the dunes in the morning, was 60° & sunny during the day

Road & Address: was fine for any vehicle, I have AWD but there were small…

Desert Quiet

I arrived at night and was quiet with only 2 other campers. There is about 7 spots with fire rings. RV's wont be able to make it in deep. Smaller RV's can get creative around the cross mount. Overall, great spot. I will stop by again. Next time I will get in during the day. It can feel a bit like a…

Amazing night sky

Site 22

I choose this site for its privacy. Boy I should have considered the hill for the wind factor. My fault. But overall great camping experience. Just a little windy at night. Nice to get off the grid.
