Beautiful

I love this place so much. This was my first time camping in Montana. It was breathtaking for me. The lake was so peaceful and clear. The trail around the lake is a nice walk to see all the different views around it. The meadows were full of wildflowers in the summer. The campground is a small…

Beautiful but Mosquitos

Mosquitoes were vicious when we stayed. Technically only 6 campsites and seems to be a popular place. I’d suggest getting there early afternoon if possible and be prepared for thick mosquitoes

Beautiful sunsets A LOT of mosquitos

This spot is outside the west entrance of Yellowstone and is very convenient for visiting Yellowstone HOWEVER... the mosquitos were crazy. My boyfriend and I took our propane stove into our tent cos we couldn’t stand the mosquitos that much! This spot is beautiful but the mosquitos unfortunately…

Paradise..!

This campground has to be one of my favorites ever, and that’s definitely saying something! We arrived on this spot after spending a long day at Yellowstone and being bummed we couldn’t get a backcountry pass for the night. But our luck quickly changed when we found this hidden gem, about 20…

Beautiful lake

Crystal Lake is a nice area. To get there it's a mix of about 20 miles of gravel and 1 lane paved roads. The gravel roads are well maintained. The 1 lane paved roads are a little iffy if you're pulling a trailer and its a busy travel day. The lake is beautiful and small enough hike around it if you…

Nice area, no shade

Nice area, refreshing swim.. Could be more shade. Limited fire pits but lots of space. Free for Montana residents!

Good enough when passing through

We stayed here on a trip out to Glacier NP. If you are just passing through to get from point A-B and don't want to get out into the back country, this campsite really fits the bill.

It's clean, maintained and relatively quiet. As others noted, it's essentially free, donations accepted.

Beautiful lakeside spot

Lovely quiet dispersed camping spot by the lake. We had seen other reviews that it was bad for mosquitos but we didn’t see a single one. Room for about 6 sites here with a few prebuilt fire pits. Beautiful views - we loved it.

You need to drive down a dirt road with some pot holes and wash…

Great spot for sleeping or taking a break

This place is great and it runs off of donations, so make sure to drop some cash into their donation box if you can. Clean bathrooms and plenty of spots to park your car and camp, some with picnic tables even. There is trash and plastic/can recycling. Flush toilets and running water. There’s a…

Awesome

This place is awesome. I wish they had these all over the country. Nice parking, covered picnic tables, Grassy and some shade, nice bathrooms. Free but please donate what you can so they will keep this open for the next time you pass thru.

The Lewistown Kiwanis provide a rest area and free campground to travels on the west end of town next to the airport. This camping area has no fee(they will take your donation to help with upkeep of the site), but does have restrooms with running water, several frost-frees are in the camping area…

Camping and fishing oasis in central Montana

Ackley Lake State Park campground has no camping fees for Montana residents, for nonresidents the cost is$24 per night. The campground has two vault toilets, but no running water or trash service. While visiting I counted 26 metal fire rings at the campground. Most of those fire rings had picnic…

Birds galore, watch out for cows

This was a welcome sight on a cross country road trip. We rolled up around sunset to find plentiful open spots, a lovely lake, and four very confused cows.

Many sites offered a sheltered picnic table, which makes me think it might get very hot or very windy.

It looked like fishing and hunting…
