Within Lolo National Forest, Harrys Flat provides 15 campsites along Rock Creek, 16 miles from Interstate 90. The US Forest Service manages this first-come, first-served campground where sites cost $15 per night and pets are welcome. The narrow access road includes 11 miles of rough pavement followed by 5 miles of gravel, making it better suited for tents and smaller RVs.

Sites 2, 3, and 5 sit directly beside Rock Creek, offering creek access and the sound of flowing water at night. "Listening to the water at night was amazing," notes Lisa M.. The remaining sites spread through old-growth ponderosa pines, with some positioned closer to the road where traffic noise may be noticeable. Bear lockers provide food storage, and vault toilets serve the campground.

Rock Creek runs as a blue ribbon trout stream, holding brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout for anglers. Mosquitoes can be heavy during summer months. Wildlife sightings are common throughout the area. Water is available on-site, though cell service remains limited. For additional camping options, campers can explore places to camp near Clinton or check nearby Dalles just 2.4 miles northeast.

The campground operates seasonally, with some sites occasionally closed due to weather damage from heavy spring rains.

Several reviews noted creek-side sites and well-maintained facilities in a scenic pine forest setting. Access involves 16 miles of narrow road with rough gravel sections, limiting large RV use but creating good value for tent camping.

Tucked Away but Nice

It’s 16 miles off the interstate. The first 11 is tough pavement and the last 5 is rough gravel, all of it narrow so be careful. The spots are $15 a piece self service so not bad. Very dark so have plenty of light if you’re going after dark. Nice little campsite!

Nice campground on Rock Creek

Harry's Flat campground is a great campground along Rock Creek, set in a huge old growth ponderosa pine forest.  The sites are large, especially the ones bordering right up to Rock Creek. The campground has 15 campsites each with Picnic tables and metal fire rings.  The campground has vault toilets and a few bear lockers for food storage, water is available.  Not all the campsites were available during my visit as about 1/2 the campground was closed due to damage during the heavy spring and early summer rains.  This is a great spot for people interested in doing some fishing, as Rock Creek is a blue ribbon stream, with brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout.  Cost is $6 per night, first come first served.

Hidden gem.

This small campground is located right along Rock Creek and only 16 miles off the interstate. Campsites are non reservable, but WOW....sites 2, 3, and 5 have direct Creek access. Listening to the water at night was amazing. This stretch has a number of small campgrounds. The road is narrow, so large RVs or travel trailers are not recommended. Most of the sites better suited for tents.

Harry’s Flat

This camp ground is pretty nice. There are some spots that are right on the creek and more that are a little ways away from the water. Unfortunately when we went there were mosquitoes everywhere! Make sure you bring bug spray! Some campsites are close to the road so it’s a little noisy. But tons of great wildlife!
