Accessible by a 16-mile drive from the interstate, Harrys Flat requires navigating 11 miles of rough pavement followed by 5 miles of gravel road. The narrow access route limits RV length to 30 feet, with most sites better suited for tents according to campers.
This Forest Service campground provides 15 sites along Rock Creek within old growth ponderosa pine forest. Sites 2, 3, and 5 offer direct creek access, where Lisa M. notes "listening to the water at night was amazing." The larger sites border the creek, while others sit farther from the water. Each site includes a picnic table and metal fire ring, with vault toilets and bear lockers available throughout the campground.
Rock Creek serves as a blue ribbon trout stream supporting brown, rainbow, and brook trout populations. The area attracts wildlife, though mosquitoes can be numerous during summer months. Some sites near the road experience traffic noise. Cell service remains limited in this forested setting.
The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $15 per night through self-service payment. Spring flooding occasionally closes portions of the campground due to damage. For additional options, campers can explore places to camp around Clinton or nearby Dalles campground. This site works well for anglers and tent campers who don't mind the challenging access road.
