Chief Joseph City Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

At $20 per night with electric hookups, Chief Joseph City Park in Harlowton, Montana gives RV travelers a functional stopover with level, asphalt pull-through sites long enough to accommodate rigs up to 45 feet. The campground has 20 pull-through sites with 30/50 amp service, though water and sewer hookups are not available at the pads. A water hydrant and dumpster are located nearby within the campground. Tent campers have dedicated sites with tables and fire pits, and additional flat ground is available for those who don't need a fire ring.

The park sits along a river, and several reviewers note the fishing access as a reason to linger. A small log cabin on-site sells firewood, and each site includes a picnic table. The campground shares grounds with a rodeo arena, a large playground, volleyball courts, and a soccer field, so weekend stays may coincide with events at the adjacent fairgrounds. As Denise W. notes, "the bathrooms are clean and have flushing toilets," though no showers are available on-site.

The park operates first-come, first-served. Reviewers report good availability on weekdays and in shoulder months like October, though weekend crowds tied to rodeo events can fill sites faster. The nearest grocery store is in Harlowton itself. Campers passing through the region who want to compare nearby options can look at Chief Joseph Campground just to the west or the Harlowton Rest Area Hwy 191 & 12 about a mile east. Arriving before late afternoon on busy weekends is advisable.

Many campers appreciated the level pull-through sites, clean facilities, and excellent family amenities at budget-friendly rates. Common feedback included the lack of sewer hookups and showers, though most found the $20 nightly rate reasonable for overnight stays.

Wonderful City Park

It was 94 degrees when we pulled into town and electric for AC is absolutely required. For $20 we have a nice level, gravel site with 30/50 amp service. No hookups for water or sewer but that isn't necessary for an overnight stay. Each campsite has a picnic table. We even had a site with a tree that gave a little shade.

This is one of the nicest small town parks I have ever experienced. The play area for children is five star. Rodeo grounds, volleyball net, soccer field are just a short walk from the campsites. The bathrooms are clean and have flushing toilets. Showers are not available.

Awesome place!

We stayed here one night on our way back to Texas after picking up our new rig. There was no other campers but a great park and very reasonably price. We would like to come back again some day. Highly recommend for a short stay.

Nice City Park and Campground

This is a large park for a small town.  The campground mostly caters to the RV set with 20 pull through sites with hook ups.  Their are two tent camping sites with tables and fire pits, but room for more if you don't want a table and fire ring.  Tent camping is just $12.  Two other possible campsite at the opposite side of the park.  Very nice new and large playground area plus picnic shelter.  Site has a dumpster just for campers and a small log cabin has firewood available.  Campground and park are right along the river so be sure to bring that fishing pole.  Water is available.

Perfect for an overnight

City park and rodeo arena, first come, first served. This is a great over-nighter spot. We did not unhitch, almost totally level. Arrived at 5:30pm. Plenty of spaces. A few more RVs came in around 6:30pm. Still a few spots available, both electrical and primitive. Flush toilets on-site. Worth the $20!

A delightful refuge.

A very nice small town town campground east of Montana’s front range. Several level pull-through RV sites with electricity. Dumpster and water hydrant near by in the campground. Large new community playground adjacent to the RV sites. Sparsely used in October/November. 14 day limit. We look forward to staying here again.

Great park to get some rest!!

Great small town RV park. $20.00 per night with electric. No sewer or dump station. Water on site but not to RV pads. Level, asphalt pads are all pull-through and long enough for my truck and 32 foot 5th wheel. 50/30 amp hook ups. Park is attached to a rodeo grounds so you might check availability on the weekends. We were only going to stay one night but the park is so nice that we stayed another two nights.
