Park close to historic township

Park has good sites. Only a few trees though. Facilities are good. Management is good. Town is very historic. A good staging location to visit the wilderness areas where Elk herds roam in the evening. Great fun!

Close to Memorial Falls

This campground was close to Memorial Falls which we wanted to hike the next day. The setting is wooded and right off scenic Highway 89. The fee for our site #6 was $5 plus $5 for extra vehicle. We were able to fit a small SUV and our pop up truck camper. There were only 6 sites here and we were the only ones here in midweek in late September 2020. There was a clean vault toilet, picnic table and barbecue stand. Simple basic campground near activities.

Beautiful remote campground

This campground has 10 sites with Spring Creek running through it. The price was $7 per site. Our site #5 backed up to the creek. You need to drive up a narrow paved road then a wider graded gravel road then make a sharp turn down to the right. Sites aren’t big but we did see some hunters in a small trailer. Elevation is 5300’ and there are bears but no bear boxes. One vault toilet near us and no garbage. This was a pretty campground and we would return. It was one of our favorite places to stay on a recent 48 day camping trip.

Beautiful

I love this place so much. This was my first time camping in Montana. It was breathtaking for me. The lake was so peaceful and clear. The trail around the lake is a nice walk to see all the different views around it. The meadows were full of wildflowers in the summer. The campground is a small loop and spaced out, the lake trail also had a couple of backcountry spots to set up. There’s also a few more trails in the area that were very pretty!!

Nice for the week

Stayed here for the week while traveling through the area. They have laundry, showers, bathrooms, WiFi and sites have full hookups. Most people staying were only there for a night or two passing through. They allow dogs and do have a pet area with bags to pick up after your pet. The rv park is right off of a fairly busy street, but it did not seem to bother us during the evening.

Private campsites!

This was a comfortable campground for RVs and tents. Our 5th-wheel is 28 feet long and fit nicely in the space. Some bigger ones may have trouble fitting into the spaces. All campsites have fire pits and picnic tables and are somewhat private. Many are on a two-tier level and actually have steps with railings to go down or up to the picnic table and fire pit. There is a water with pump handle and a couple pit toilets, but that’s it! Plan to drive a long way if you forgot anything! It is close to the highway making it easy access, but you do get some highway noise at some spaces. There is a campground host, but that person was gone two out of the three days we were there.

Cooney State Park

July 23-24, 2019 Windy, raining and dust flying everwhere. Site R012 is $36.50 a night. Site has electric and water is 800 ft away. Showers and flush toilets. Dump station was inoperable when we were there.

Glacier National Park

July 13 - 16, 2019 Stunning Park. Site C144 had no electric or water but water was available in park. There were showers and flush toilets. A utility sink with hot water was available for washing dishes. There was a dump station. Verizon signal 4 bars. Sr. Lifetime discount rate was $11.50.  The free buses were a great way to see the park. Elevation 4,551 Red buses were very cramped and there was a charge also.

Hidden gem! Great escape and so close to Great Falls.

We were shocked this campground wasn’t full, it’s only an hour from Great Falls and the road is your typical gravel, a few larger potholes but completely doable in any car (or towing). Lots of shaded spots (available on a Friday and Saturday night in mid-August!), super clean facilities, and a very helpful camp host. The partiers stay down below on the road so it was super quiet and had some nice wildlife in the area. We did the Windy Mountain loop, so it was a treat to finish the hike and be back at our campsite 100 yards from the end! Highly recommend for campers looking for an easy, quiet escape.

Camping near the Sluice Boxes

This campground is great if you are planning on hiking the sluice boxes the next day. Very quiet campground other than the occasional traffic sounds from the round. The creek does a good job worth background noise. The campsites are a little small but not terrible.
