## Overview

Lodgepole Campground is a large facility situated along a scenic highway in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in Montana. Across the street is Georgetown Lake, a popular destination for fishing, boating and water sports.

Please note, this campground IS NOT within Sequoia National Park.

## Recreation

Postcard-perfect Georgetown Lake is a prime destination for fishing and fly fishing with kokanee salmon, rainbow and brook trout being the most sought-after species.  
  
Canoeing and boating are also popular activities. Hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers will find no shortage of trails within a few miles of the campground.

## Facilities

The campground is conveniently located across the street from Georgetown Lake, though there is no direct lake access from the site but Red Bridge Boat Launch is walking distance away. If you camp at Lodgepole Campground there is no charge for using the boat launch/day use area. This facility is one of the larger campgrounds in the lake area with 31 units available for tent and RV camping.

## Natural Features

Georgetown Lake boasts more than 3,000 acres of cool mountain waters at an elevation of 6,000 feet. It is surrounded by the sometimes snow-covered Flint Creek Range to the north and the Pintlers to the south.  
  
Lodgepole Campground derives its name from the long and slender Lodgepole pines, which surround the area.  
  
The lake area is also home to abundant wildlife, including moose, elk, white-tailed deer and even bighorn sheep.

## Overview

Douglas Creek Cabin offers a great way to access the various seasonal activities available in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in western Montana. While hunting enthusiasts enjoy the cabin during bow and rifle seasons, it is popular for snowmobiling or cross-country skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. The cabin is in a very remote location, giving anyone an outdoor recreational experience they will never forget.  
  
  
  
Access to the cabin is limited by weather conditions. Four-wheel drive is necessary in the winter. Excessive snowfall and wind can prohibit any vehicle from accessing the cabin and visitors will need to plan for cross-country skiing or snowmobiling three or more miles. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring their own amenities.  
  


## Recreation

Douglas Creek is a small stream at this location and does not support any sizeable fish. Fishing is popular in any of the mountain lakes in the vicinity, and many of them are stock by FWP. Access to the lakes will require hiking or driving various distances. The area is home to a variety of trails for hiking, but there are no designated trails near the cabin. A big game winter range and elk calving grounds are nearby, offering great wildlife viewing potential. Hunting for deer, elk and upland game birds is popular in the area.   
  
  
  
Guests also enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the surrounding areas during the winter. 

## Facilities

The primitive, one-room cabin has bunkbeds that sleep up to four people. It has a table and chairs, minimal cooking utensils, and a wood stove for heat. Firewood is provided but cannot be guaranteed. There is no electricity, plumbing or water available at the cabin. An outhouse with a vault toilet is located just steps behind the cabin.   
  
There ample parking and room to turn a trailer in front of the cabin.  
  
Guests will need to bring water for cooking, cleaning, and drinking. Guests will also need bedding, towels, soap, dishes, cooking equipment, toilet paper, garbage bags, and an axe or chainsaw. A broom and dust pan are provided and guests are required to carry out all trash. **Guests are also required to clean the facility prior to departure**. Cell phone service is sometimes available at the cabin and with a slight elevation change.

## Natural Features

The rustic, remotely located cabin is adjacent to Douglas Creek, in the north end of the Flint Creek Range. It is situated in a grassy meadow, surrounded by mature evergreen trees. The cabin was built in the 1960s and was used as an administrative location for crews working in the area.  
  
  
  
The small and narrow Douglas Creek runs about 50 feet from the cabin through the cabin site.   
  
  
  
The Flints have abundant wildlife near the cabin, and it is not uncommon to see moose, deer, elk, mountain lions, or bears(grizzly and black). The area is popular for hunting of deer, elk and blue grouse. Dozens of alpine lakes in the range provide good fishing.

Delmoe Lake Campground and Picnic area is located 15 miles from Whitehall and Butte in the Whitetail-Pipestone area - a popular destination for OHV riding. The lake is a man-made reservoir controlled by the Pipestone Water Users for irrigation near Whitehall. The campground has 25 sites for trailer and tent camping. Maximum trailer length is 32 feet. Wood is generally able to be found within the campground area. Water and restrooms are available. The picnic area has tables and a boat launch primarily for fishing activities. The lake level will fluctuate during the summer season as the water is used for irrigation.

## Overview

McCart Lookout is a historic tower located on McCart Peak, east of Sula. It has been restored to reflect a lookout of the 1940s, including the stove, furniture, dishes and other small touches. It offers a unique chance for visitors to camp on a mountain peak, on the border of the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, in a rustic, old-time setting. The tower provides spectacular views of the surrounding western Montana wilderness. 

## Recreation

The trail to reach the tower continues south and joins the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, which extends 3,100 miles across the United States, from the borders of Mexico to Canada. While it might take about six months to complete, a variety of day hikes and points of exploration are available within the area of the lookout tower. Trails can be enjoyed on foot or on horseback. Backpackers also enjoy the terrain. Aside from hiking and horseback riding, the area is replete with wildlife and offers scenic views. A lookout journal is kept inside, providing instructions of what to do in case of emergency or a storm. Danger from lightning is largely abated due to a lightning rod implanted at the structure.

## Facilities

McCart Lookout is a historic "L4" lookout located on Mccart Peak east of the Bitterroot Valley. The lookout is a one room cabin with a bed platform suitable for two people. Bedding is not provided. The lookout can accommodate up to four. Others are welcome to tent camp in the area. The lookout measures 14ft.X14ft. with a 30 inch catwalk around the outside. There is a wood stove for heat. You may have to saw your own wood from dead and down material found nearby. A bow saw and ax are provided. A two burner propane camp stove and lanterns are provided. Propane is not provided, you will need to **bring your own propane canisters**. Utensils for cooking and eating are provided. There is no water available near the lookout so please **bring your own water**. An outdoor toilet serves the lookout. You will need to **provide your own toilet paper**. There is a small corral for two or three head of stock.

  
The lookout is built on a 10 foot tall tower, with narrow steps and catwalk. This may pose a hazard for children and pets. Guests are responsible for their own safety.  


Remember, guests will need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking and cleaning purposes, as well as propane fuel canisters for cooking and lighting. **Guests are also responsible for their own bedding, towels, soap, toilet paper and garbage bags**. The facility does not provide trash receptacles; all garbage must be carried out, and the tower must be cleaned by guests prior to leaving. Do not leave anything you bring, even if you think it will benefit other renters   
  
The tower is accessed by a moderate, 1.5-mile hike from the parking area. Snowmobiles and other off-road vehicles are not allowed on the trail, however, horses and other livestock are welcome. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

## Natural Features

The tower is situated east of the Bitterroot Valley, at an elevation of 7,115 feet. It was named for William McCart, who settled the area but failed to complete his homestead entry to patent. It is poised on the edge of the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness and offers beautiful views of the Pintler Mountains to the east and the Bitterroot Mountains to the west.   
  
The Bitterroot forest is home to many species of wildlife, from mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black bear, mountain lions, and moose, to many varieties of smaller animals and birds. 

## Nearby Attractions

A variety of natural hot springs exist in the area, including the the Lost Trail Hot Springs, which is located about 13 miles northwest of the tower. It provides swimming and additional amenities, including a general store and lodging.
