Located on a peninsula on Caney Lake, Jimmie Davis State Park offers two boat launches and a fishing pier that cater to the outdoors enthusiast looking for a prime freshwater fishing spot. Waterskiing is another way to enjoy the clear waters of the lake, which was created by damming Caney Creek in 1986. Don't forget to look back at the lakeshore to appreciate the beautiful mixed pine and hardwood forest surrounding the lake and the birds and animals that make the forest their home. To ensure that there's never a dull moment, the park also has a playground for the kids after a day on the lake. Cyclists will enjoy the park as a starting point for biking treks through the hills of North Louisiana, and nature lovers are invited to discover the beauty of the wooded land and lakefront. Bring your binoculars to get a closer look at the wide variety of birds that live in or pass through the area. After a day of fishing and exploring the park, stay the night in a cabin...or bring the extended family and sleepover in a lodge. For large groups, a group camp – including four dormitories and a dining hall – is available, with its own playground and fishing pier. RV campers have several scenic sites to choose from, for a closer visit with nature. Opened in the fall of 1996, Jimmie Davis State Park was originally named Caney Creek Lake State Park. The 2003 Louisiana State Legislature approved renaming the park in honor of two-term Governor Jimmie H. Davis, who served from 1944 to 1948 and again from 1960 to 1964.

Cloud Crossing Campground is a beautiful bottomland area timbered with large hardwoods and pines that is directly adjacent to Saline Bayou National Wild and Scenic River. The terrain is flat with brushy areas that provide seclusion for some camping sites. Cloud Crossing is an ideal put-in/take-out point for boating or canoeing on Saline Bayou. Visitors to the campground will find picnicking units, a pavilion with barbecue pit, shaded campsites with grill/fire rings, lantern hooks, and tables, trash containers, and restrooms. A launch ramp suitable for small trailered boats and other small watercraft is available.

The Gum Springs Campground is located in an area of hilly terrain and natural springs. Gum Springs Recreation Complex exhibits recreation design and construction from the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930's. Gum Springs campground offers basic recreation opportunities of picnicking and camping and is close to Gum Springs Horse Camp and Trail.

Beaver Dam Campground is situated on the shores of Upper Caney Lake in the Caney Lakes Recreation Complex. The campground is located in a beautiful setting among woods, lakes and hills. Swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing are the top activities. Sugar Cane National Recreation Trail passes right next to the campground and offers varied terrain for hikers and bikers. The Sugar Cane trail was named for the crop that was once cultivated here, in addition to cotton. Recreation Bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill and sandbass can be caught in the lakes. The Sugar Cane Trail spans 5.7 miles and the Lost Man Loop spans 2 miles. Both are open to hiking and mountain biking. Facilities Campsites come with electric and water hookups. The group picnic area accommodates up to 200 guests while each campsite fits up to eight campers. A sanitary dump station, drinking water and flush toilets are provided. Natural Features Beaver Dam sits at an elevation of 160 feet along the north shores of the 125-acre Upper Caney Lake. The group picnic area is near Lower Caney Lake, spanning 250 acres. Kisatchie National Forest, the only national forest in Louisiana, spans 604,000 acres and mostly consists of bayous with bald cypress groves and old growth pine. Cheniere Lake (pronounced "Shenny“") is the largest lake in Ouachita Parish, which covers approximately 3,600 surface acres at pool stage, and was impounded in 1946. Cheniere Lake is operated by the Ouachita Parish Police Jury. The lake is located about 3 miles SW of West Monroe, Louisiana (Well Road Exit, then South). Cheniere is studded with tall Spanish moss laden Cypress trees and towering Tupelo Gum trees through which boat/canoe trails have been cut. Its many varieties of Louisiana wildlife include fish, birds, beaver, otter, nutria, turtles and alligators. Several spring fed streams flow into the lake and it is relatively free of unnatural pollutants. Cheniere Lake is known for its natural scenic beauty.

RV Park - There are 8 RV sites overlooking the lake with electricity, water and dump station. Handicap accessible. Fee is $34.08/night (check, or money order). Bathhouse is air-conditioned and handicap accessible. Washer and dryer also available.
