Best Campgrounds near Paris, TN

Campgrounds near Paris, Tennessee cluster around Kentucky Lake with a mix of state parks, KOA sites, and private RV parks offering various accommodation types. Paris Landing State Park Campground provides around 70 sites with water and electric hookups in a hardwood forest setting on Kentucky Lake, while Piney Campground at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area accommodates tents, RVs, and cabins with boat-in access. Private operations like Eagles Nest RV Park and Paris Landing-Kentucky Lake KOA round out the options with full-hookup sites and glamping facilities within 5-10 miles of Paris.

Seasonal availability varies significantly across the area's campgrounds. Many private campgrounds like Buchanan Resort operate from mid-March through November, closing during winter months. However, several year-round options exist, including Paris Landing State Park and Little Eagle RV Park. Summer brings higher occupancy, especially at waterfront locations. Road noise can be a factor at some campgrounds, particularly at Paris Landing State Park where highway proximity affects the camping experience. "Paris Landing State Park has about 70 campsites, most with water and electric hookups, but it is not easy to find a level site," noted one camper in a review.

Kentucky Lake access represents the primary attraction for most camping facilities in the region. Waterfront campsites tend to fill quickly during peak season, with boaters particularly drawn to Piney Campground and Boswell Landing which offer boat-in camping options. Several visitors highlight the natural setting and water recreation possibilities. Campground amenities vary considerably, with Eagles Nest RV Park receiving praise for its concrete pads, patios, and cable TV connections. Shade availability differs between campgrounds, with Paris Landing featuring wooded sites while some RV parks offer less natural coverage. A camper described Eagles Nest as "a hidden gem right next to Kentucky Lake and Paris Landing. It has all concrete pads with full service utility kiosks." Family-friendly facilities include playgrounds, swimming pools, and picnic pavilions at several locations, particularly at the KOA campground.

    Hillman Ferry Campground

    Peaceful Lakeside Camping

We enjoyed our weekend stay during the HTC-E campout. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The camps grounds were clean and free of debris. Free showers with plenty of hot water, good water pressure. There was a strange phenomena of dead gnats/flying things on the ladies bathroom counter each morning. Not sure if someone sprayed each night… The lake was low, which we were told was common for this time of year as the dam level gets adjusted after Labor Day weekend. Still enough water for kayaking. This campground is very large so the golf cart rental was worth the $80 p/day fee. All in all, a great visit to Land O’ Lake. Check out our video on YouTube at Skyways to Highways.

    Fenton Self-Service Campground

    Basic

Right off a main road the spots are shallow so not ideal for long rigs. It does have power and one pit toilet at one end.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

    Cleanest Bathrooms

There is nothing special about the location. There is a boat ramp nearby. There were only people set up in the park today. They do have a playground.

    Canal Campground- Lake Barkley COE

    Nice COE campground

Grand Rivers KY Canal Campground at Barkley Lake COE Site 111 This is a great COE campground located between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, with views of the Barkley Dam. The canal connects them and you can see boats and occasionally barges passing through. There are over 100 campsites are available, many with water views. We had a spacious site with a river view. Other loops are closer together and no view. Sites offer electric and/or water hookups, tables and fire ring. Other amenities include clean old style bathhouses, a dump station, laundry facilities, a playground, and picnic pavilions. We saw several deer roaming the grounds. There's a great pizza place in town Papa Z.

    Lake Barkley State Resort Park

    Shaded but unlevel

Enjoyed our stay. Bring quite a bit of leveling materials as the sites are very unlevel. 1 dump station and an older but usable bath house. The road to come in was narrow but we'll marked. Very shaded and decently spaced out. Water and electric only.

Guide to Paris

Camping sites near Paris, Tennessee primarily border Kentucky Lake, offering direct water access for recreation activities. Summer temperatures typically reach 85-90°F, while spring and fall camping provide milder 60-75°F conditions. Most campgrounds in the area don't offer primitive sites, instead focusing on developed camping with varying levels of hookups and amenities.

What to do

Water activities at Piney Campground: The shoreline location allows for immediate kayak and boat access directly from many campsites. "We took two different weekends at Piney Campground and both times were able to get waterside spots and drop the kayaks right in at the campsite," notes Jody A. The campground features dedicated boat ramps and shoreline access.

Wildlife viewing in Land Between the Lakes: The recreation area surrounding many campgrounds offers opportunities to spot deer, turkey, and waterfowl. "Saw a lot of wildlife for such a big campground with lots of people traffic," mentions Shy-Anne W. about her stay at Piney Campground.

Historical explorations: Visit nearby Fort Donelson National Historic Site and Civil War locations. "From what I understand, this is a pretty quiet spot in the park. The trade off is that it is not near a ton of stuff," explains Jessica L. about Boswell Landing Campground, which offers access to Buchanan Cemetery and Fort Henry site within walking distance.

What campers like

Concrete pads at premium RV sites: Several private campgrounds offer upgraded site surfaces. "Eagle's Nest RV Park has all concrete pads with full service utility kiosks. Each campsite has plenty of room and comes with its own patio and cable TV connection," reports Andy S. about Eagles Nest RV Park.

Swimming options: Both lake access and pool facilities provide cooling opportunities during hot months. "There is a pool and golf course," mentions Joel R. about recreational amenities at Paris Landing State Park Campground.

Quiet waterfront locations: Several campgrounds offer secluded water access spots. "Good size lots, most within feet of the water. Lots of trees so there's plenty of shade," says Jordan about Boswell Landing Campground. The primitive camping area features multiple waterfront options without electrical hookups.

What you should know

Road noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds more than others. "The spot was nice, the park was lovely, but the road noise was bothersome. We were in a spot pretty far from the road but it was very noticeable," reports Sara C. about Paris Landing State Park Campground.

Site leveling challenges: Prepare leveling blocks as many campsites require adjustments. "It's a tight fit and our rig is only 22.5' TT. Our back in site was to the left on a one way road that I had to turn around and go opposite way so we could get in," warns Todd M. about his experience at Paris Landing State Park Campground.

Off-season considerations: Many campgrounds close during winter months or have limited services. "We visited at the end of the season. The campground was right next to the marina and an overpass allows you to cross over to the other side where the lodge and golf course are," explains Shelly S. regarding facilities available during shoulder season.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds offer dedicated recreational spaces. "Big campground, with nice bathhouses, and boat ramp. Sites are a little close together but nice. A pavilion and basketball court plus several playgrounds throughout," shares Shelly S. about Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area Piney Campground.

Bicycle-friendly environment: Some campgrounds feature extensive biking opportunities. "Been going here since I was a kid. Its a great place to camp with great bike trails and everything you need," recommends Ronnie S. about the Land Between The Lakes facilities. However, note the busy bike traffic: "There are a LOT of kids around riding bikes (so be careful driving)."

Swimming considerations: Lake access varies between locations, with some offering gradual entries suitable for children. "Water was warm and calm being off the main lake. Piney cove is pretty shallow and we could walk out into the water a good 30-40ft before getting too deep," describes Chris R. about the family-friendly swimming conditions.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: At busy campgrounds, arrive early or reserve well ahead. "The best spots book up quickly, especially for long weekends so reserve EARLY if you want a specific date," advises Jody A. about securing waterfront locations at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area Piney Campground.

Water and electrical considerations: Check hookup locations and bring extension cords when needed. "Had water and electrical hook up but the 30 amp was fried. Luckily it also had 20 amp so power management was key," shares Todd M. about adapting to infrastructure challenges at Paris Landing.

Camping store availability: Many sites offer on-site supplies but at premium prices. "General store on site for forgotten item, but as usual you pay a premium," notes Chris R. about Paris Landing-Kentucky Lake KOA, which maintains an on-site store with camping necessities.
